Trade Calvin Johnson?

Trade Calvin Johnson?

WDFN talks about it.

http://www.wdfn.com/cc-common/...hepAndSharp.xml

It is from 11-5, take a listen.

I wonder if Mayhew even entertained the idea. You think he has?

I really do wonder if Calvin could fetch Seattle's 2 x 1sts and maybe a 2nd rounder?

1. G. McCoy

1. D. Bryant/R. McClain

1. Trent Williams/ S. Weatherspoon

2. G. Hardy

2. T. Lindley

Interesting draft for sure.  I love Calvin but man this team is so far down the drain with talent.  Even if we had Adrian Peterson i would be the same way.  It is sooo soo soo hard to game plan a offense around 1 guy. You just can't do it. You need to have more than 1 guy.

Anyways, i don't think Calvin goes anywhere but it was just a thought.

RE: Trade Calvin Johnson?

Here is the main problem with trading for draft picks. You have no idea if those picks will turn out better then the players you got rid of to get them. It's not like the Lions will turn into the 90's Cowboys just because they make a Herschel Walker type deal.

You see how are receivers are without Johnson.

I would say no. This offense needs to built around Stafford & Johnson. It's like when the Colts had Marvin Harrison & then drafted Manning.

Unless we could get multiple players in their prime, I would say no way.

I understand and i feel the exact same way for the most part.

It was just a thought. It's just sad to see this team with little to no talent. The game vs the rams proved the point. Stafford and Johnson are the only real talents on offense. I think you can add in Pettigrew as time goes on. I loved his blocking. His receiving will get better.

There would be riot in Detroit if they traded away their best player.

That would show that the Lions don't care and don't have a clue. I would be done with the Lions at that point.

Re: Trade Calvin Johnson?

First of all, negative Drew Sharp brought it up - that sums it all up.

His partner on the radio pointed out several times: let's not worry about that, until his option year of 2012.

The age-old argument that you trade your best player, before he walks clean as a F.A. is just that: Age-old.

...The bigger concern is these annual $30-40 million signing bonuses they're paying out to these players drafted in the top 3....

They did that a couple years ago.  We went 0-16 thereafter, but no riots.

RE: Trade Calvin Johnson?

Half of the remaining 40K fans in Ford Field each week are rocking the number 81. I bet we'd see an all time low attendance if CJ were traded. Fans would leave in droves.

With that said- every player has a price. There could exist such a trade scenario that would be foolish to pass on- one that even I would endorse. But the likelihood of any team ever offering such a trade is remote at best. I guess we are stuck with arguably the most gifted reciever in football. We're just gonna have to grin and bear it.

How to destroy a young QB 101.. Trade the only weapon he has to throw too.. I can't believe they would even suggest this after seeing the game against the Rams... Yeah let's trade CJ so we can yet again draft another WR who isn't going to be as good brilliant idea.. Here's a crazy idea how about we try and build around our young talent instead trading it away..

Re: Trade Calvin Johnson?

Right now, trading CJ definitely sounds stupid. This idea may sound a lot more palatable in 2011, unless the Lions look like they are making serious improvements on their way to becoming a perennial playoff team. Suppose the Lions finish about 6-10 in 2011, and then Calvin has his contract coming up.  Our attendance has not been good, and isn't likely to improve much until this team shows that they can win games, Under those circumstances, would it even make any sense to pay Johnson's next contract?  CJ is going to get some MAJOR money, and I don't see him giving the Lions a cutrate, so we either have to pay the man-or franchise him for maybe even more money.

To the idea of some that you don't trade a star for draft picks, someone said it would take established players, I disagree.  It would be about the same as the Herschel Walker deal, you do not know what you will be picking-you just have faith that you can use the extra multiple picks to upgrade your team. If someone would offer 2 1sts and 2 seconds, I would trade CJ right now-let alone in 2011.

How many games has Stafford played where he actually had CJ to throw to?

CJ has missed a lot of games in his career.  Anybody got a count of how many games CJ has not played since he came into the league.    Seems like a lot to me anyway.

But he is the most talented player on the Lions.

How many games has CJ played in?

How many games has he missed due to injury?

While he could be a stud, hes injured far too much to expect a lot of comp for....sorry.

Killer said today he's missed three games.. so that would be 36 that he has played in, and three that he has not.  That doesn't seem like a much of an injury record to me...

RE: Trade Calvin Johnson?

There's no elite impact players in the draft next year that is worth a CJ.
