Re: Man that game was HARD to watch

I was unable to watch the game but followed it on NFL.com.  It seemed like we played very poorly and this makes it hard to see  the forrest through the tree, especially when this was our "dress rehersal"...but...lets keep in mind we are trying to pick up a brand new offence and defence while keeping our game planning as vanilla as possible.

I just ask people to take a half a step back from the ledge, and reserve judgement till it really counts.  I remember thinking we looked very good when we went 4-0 and won the pre-season Superbowl....and well the rest is history!

Yes...its a 40oz original!

Re: Man that game was HARD to watch

Lots of good stuff.

Calvin looked like Calvin.
Ebron seems to progress each week.
Broyles if he doesn't make the team I will faith in Cadwell or Mayhew.
Dline looks great.
Whitehead was given the chance to start and did what your suppose to do if you want to start.
The Dline looked good and by far Fairley best outing.
Couplin and Lawson looks like they could be the future in the secondary.
Tate just makes plays.
Bell/Bush solid solid solid.
Stafford wasn't as sharp as he was last game but I think he was trying to force something to Calvin to get him involved.

The only thing that scares me is the discipline. The penalties and the interceptions we should have had. Bortles looked good but his night would have been a lot worse if our CB didn't have bedrock for hands.

Re: Man that game was HARD to watch

There were no positives....We played like garbage and got a pathetic win against one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Almost every good play we had was either negated by a penalty or was followed by one (or more) and we missed at least 2 INT chances. Our defense played OK (minus the stupid penalties) and our offense looked terrible and had a bunch of dumb penalties.

I don't mind penalties like the "late hit" that Suh had but holding or false start or encroachment every 3 plays is just bad. If we play anything near like this in the regular season we will be lucky to win 5 games.

I've said it the 1st two games - I'll say it after game #3: the penalty-discipline isn't there. Not yet.

I also said 8-8. Sticking with that.

People keep talking about Broyles possibly not making the team...why?

Also:

I think Larry Webster has shown flashes of big time potential as well.

15 penalties is TERRIBLE....Most of those were good calls also, If we play like this when the season begins we are done. Caldwell needs to have these guys running laps all week. Encroachment and holding are rookie penalties and they happened all game long.

48 years of the same old stuff.

I don't have a lot of confidence that this year will be that much different than the previous 47.

Not sure if you have been watching much of the pre-season but penalties have been a problem with EVERY team.  I heard on NFL radio that the league is happy with the amount of penalties because it gives them tape to disect and take back to the refs to say...play A is a penalty, play B is not.  Games will not be called like this in the regular season....hell the Saints had 22 penalties in their last game!

Re: Man that game was HARD to watch

What Irish said, except the Couplin part.  The LBs were fine too -- with Ashley getting a nice sack.  And I've become a Broyles fan.  Make the team and stay healthy please.

To be sure, lots of penalties and turnovers.  I'm glad Broyles was down before his fumble.

Also, Matt had a couple other bad throws that could have been picked.  That concerned me.

The D didn't play well on 3rd downs, including long yardage situations.  I think it was Mathis who allowed an uncontested catch plus yards after the catch on 3rd and 17.  Gained 18.

I DVRed it. I have never been so happy to have a fast forward button.

He seemed to be inline most of the time...I anticipate when the season starts he will operate mostly out of the slot.

Hopefully this was a joke because there were NO positives.  Its a continuation of last year.  What a horrible team.

I have followed the Lions since the Monte Clark Days

Stupid penalities? Check.
Propensity to let oppontests convert 3rd and 20? Check
Underperforming stars? Check

This IS Lions football, unfortunately. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
