Smear campaign and personal attacks has begun

Smear campaign and personal attacks has begun

It seems as though the smear campaign on Tony Dungy had officially gain ground as I've noted in another thread. Here is the latest article. But first, I'll give you a snippet of the distasteful back lashing The Rev is receiving.

Snippet (entire article link below the clipping)

Tony Dungy has been quoted for two days this week about St. Louis Rams defensive end Michael Sam, the first openly gay man to be drafted by an NFL team. His words have made little sense and, worse, they have injected fresh bile into the conversation just as training camps open across the league.

I know the first reaction is to pile on Dungy, tear him to shreds and then look for the next social offender. Emotions are raw and intense. As cathartic as it might feel, however, it's not going to change anything. These days, few converts are won via criticism, pressure or otherwise compelling conformity. I suggest an alternative, albeit boring, approach.

Honestly if I was famous I wouldn't answer any questions about anything because somebody somewhere is going to be butthurt about it and turn it into some huge deal. That's just the way things are these days.

I tend to lay shame on anyone who doesn't have the mental capacity to understand, that these comments were made post Television deal with Oprah Winfrey; and that, Tony's revelations about distractions are being prophesied with each article that is released regarding the player in question.... Rather it be a new article or an old article.

But, the fact that something Dungy said months ago, gaining ground pre-training camp, proves the media is fueling the distraction.

Guess Dungy should quit NBC then.

Dungy is the new "Miss California"....the one that had the adacity to say she believed marriage should be between a man and a woman and outraged the media and Hollywood.

I guess I'm not sensitive enough not to laugh at that.

I'm with you guys on this one.

No one can touch the Sam thing. I'm waiting for Kirwin to get roasted for saying Sams sucks.
any attempt to impersonate an actual scout in the above post has been done poorly, and should not be taken seriously by anyone

But, them again; that statement coincide with free speech. If Miss Sunshine state and Dungy believes a marriage should be between a woman and a man... Then, so what! We all have a right to formulate an opinion and build a belief system.

Not intended to ruffle your feathers... Basically venting on the premise within your post.

No offense...I agree with you.   I was just pointing out he is being villanized for his opinion like she was....and we all have a right to our opinion.

But anymore you cant have one if it doesn't fit the leftist agenda.

It used to be there were liberals and conservatives.   But now the media would have you believe we have Liberals and Racist.   Anybody that doesn't go along with Obama or the Gay is Great media campaign is painted as a racist and a bigot.

I don't care who Sams has sex with as long as it is consenting.  But I don't think I need to worship the guy nor do I think he should get special treatment becuase he likes man parts instead of lady parts.

Soon I will be forced to wear a yellow star on my cloths because I dont agree with the creation of a nanny welfare state out of what used to be the greatest country in the world built on hard work and freedom and because I don't feel guilty for being straight.

So sick of all this politically correct nonsense. It's not like Dungy was attacking the homosexual community, he was just pointing out that the risk of distraction was not worth whatever possible reward drafting Michael Sam would have gained. Distraction like that can take you from Superbowl contender to average or worse.

The truth is the majority of the homosexual community doesn't even get that upset over stuff like this, it's the media. They actively look for reasons to be offended and write up articles like this just for the attention. It's like the media as a whole have turned into a real world version of internet trolls intent on flaming everyone.

Re: Smear campaign and personal attacks has begun

It's pretty sad how overblown his comments are.  Dungy said exactly what 99% of fans were thinking.  And it is true, Sam will bring a circus to St. Louis.  Tim Tebow brought a circus to Denver and New York and he wasn't even homosexual- just a Christian.

Eventually, a player more deserving to make the team than Sam will miss his chance or the brass in St. Louis will have to face an inevitable outcry by the media.

Michael Vick wasn't a distraction?

Re: Smear campaign and personal attacks has begun

Let me say I have no problem with anything he said and I'm sure it was meant in a harmless way. However Dungy should look in the mirror... How would he have felt had he heard an NFL owner make a statement many years ago that he would never hire an African American HC because of the distraction. I bet he would have been offended.

Truth is harmless statement or not... Any way you cut it... It's still a form of discrimination.

However I feel a HC should have the right to not have a distraction if he doesn't want one. Just like a business owner should have the right to hire whoever he wants. Its their loss if they pass up on the next great thing because they want to take the easier traveled road.

Dungy should have been smart enough to not make that statement. I wouldn't be shocked if he looses his job over this which I feel is wrong.

Society has become way too over sensitive in my opinion.

That's the thing, no one really believes Michael Sam is the "next great thing". If it was Jadeveon Clowney or Sammy Watkins then this whole conversation would be different. This is not Jackie Robinson coming in and dominating baseball while changing hearts and minds in the process. Imagine if Jackie was just average or maybe a little below average. Would he have been worth it? Would it have helped the african american community or hurt it? It would have been a completely different story thats for sure.
