Pretty awkward. Suh makes me very, very nervous.

Ndamukong Suh and T.J. Lang Have Awkward Encounter on 'American Muscle'

Detroit Lions star Ndamukong Suh has been involved in his fair share of incidents since coming into the  NFL , and some of his actions on the field can lead to awkward encounters off the field. Flashback to Thanksgiving Day 2011—the day that Suh pushed Green Bay Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith's head into the ground and stomped on him as he got up. After the game, Packers guard T.J. Lang was one of the  most vocal players  on the incident.  Suh and Lang have apparently not cleared the air at all since the incident, so that set up an awkward encounter on  American Muscle.  Lang didn't want to be anywhere near Suh, not even to take a picture. In case you missed it, this is the same show that gave Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman a chance to  explain his beef  with San Francisco 49ers wide receiver  Michael Crabtree . The show provides plenty of classic moments for NFL fans.

Thanks, my bad.. I didn't see it at the very top at first.

This is just one example of the kinds of things that were happening moments before the now infamous "Suh stomp". You'll notice #71 (Josh Sitton) going low at the knees on this play.

There's more, much much more including a near stranglehold around Suh's neck & on another play..a double team wrestling style supplex attempt by Wells & Dietrich-Smith lol, but unfortunately I don't know how to convert those videos into GIF's. Does anyone here know how?

I said right after he stomped the guy, that Suh had his reasons for doing it and damn good ones. But everybody was on a %%$#@@ witch hunt and calling Suh every name in the book, calling him all kinds of foul sh7t, and labeling him as a "Dirty" player.

NOOOBODY wanted to hear it.

Uh, there's no good reason for stomping on a guy!  (as harmless as it was)
If you let a guy get under your skin like that, then you're the punk and lost the mind game within the game.
If you're the dominant dog, you can't let smaller dogs get into your head like that.

How many of those Packers cheap shots on Suh were flagged? Just curious.

I doubt any of them but Sitton's cut block was 100% legal.
Cut blocking is allowed as long as the block is no more than five yards away from the line of scrimmage and it is inside the tackle box and the "cut" on a defensive player isn't made while already engaged with another offensive player - all of which accorded legally on the Sutton cut block in the clip gif.
SUH should actually be glad Sitton is NOT a "dirty player" and didn't try to take out his knees but instead went really low to the ankles and shins.

DL players may not LIKE cut blocks, but they're used in every game every week, by OL players on every team.
scottallen222 got it exactly right. The game is what it is, and if you let small dogs get under your skin and into your head, you lose.

Here's the Sitton stranglehold on Suh MJ. I don't know what to call it exactly, but on this particular play, Sitton obviously should've been flagged.  You'll notice the Sitton's forearm around Suh's neck, and as a result,  Suh throwing his arms up looking for the call at the very end..

On these series of plays, you'll notice 2 that stand out in particular. One shows (C) Scott Well bear hugging Suh, or holding him around the waste if you will. Again.. NO call.

On another you'll notice both Wells AND Dietrich-Smith wrestle hold Suh by the waiste, or hog-tie him if you will. Again.. NO call..

These are some of the things that had transpired before the STOMP.

I wish I could convert these into GIF's. But that's all I can do at this point.

Re: Ndamukong Suh and T.J. Lang Have Awkward Encounter

So, what transpired before the stomp was a legal cut block and two holding calls that weren't flagged?  You'd think a Top 3 DL would deal with similar stuff pretty much every single game? Right?

The "stranglehold" really isn't all that uncommon.  When an OL gets beat, sometimes all they can try to do is hook a guy to slow him down, whether it's the neck or the waist.  Definitely a hold and should have been called IMO, but holding goes on pretty much every single play.  My guess is if you looked at the film of every game in any given season you'd see similar holds w/out flags.  Holding is a frustrating call as there seems to be no guideline on when it should be flagged or not.  It's like the strikezone baseball, it seems to change every game.

As a Packers fan, the stomp never really made me angry.  I'd be more angry if I was a Lions fan.  The game was pretty close and that would have been 4th down (if I remember correctly).  Suh got himself ejected and hurt his team and turned what would have been a FG attempt into a 1st down that led to a TD.  Suh handed the Packers all the momentum in that game.  EDS wasn't the slightest bit hurt...I'm really not sure whyat there is to be angry at him for if you're a Packers fan.

I can only speak for myself, not my fellow fanbase as I know a lot of Packers fans who despise Suh.  I don't dislike him any more or less than any Lions players as a fan of a division rival.  He's a great player, he just lost his cool and hurt his own team.

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone what he did. Just merely pointing out there were a sequence of events that led up to it. The Packers O-Lineman did what they had to do to get under his skin, even if it meant illegally, and it worked. They got away with it, they win.

As they say, "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying". You get a lot of W's that way. Smart gameplan by the Packers O-line.

I love that Suh is all business interacting with a division rival.  He doesn't want to give up his edge and stay in their heads.  Suh is good at riding the fine edge of uber competitiveness and keeping people guessing about what makes him tick.  He can save the buddy stuff til after he retires.  I would not be surprised however if he never lets his guard down even then.

Ohhhhhhhh, ok.  Sorry, I misunderstood your original point buddy. biggrin

I watched both videos and those were clearly illegal holds.  Good find.
