Favs....

Favs....

Humor me I keep hearing year after year guys dragging our players names in the dirt, saying how disappointed they are in certain players throughout the team-been there-done that.

So,  I thought it would be interesting as hell who our Den members thought were the top two players on our team.

I know it seems like a weak or even lame exercise, but I really don't know who any of you might pick as the two.

honest answers and opinions-why do you feel player A & player B are the best we have.

heard just about everything there has to be said with smack and the flack we subject these players to, but it's kind of rare that we see much praise.

So let's hear it..I'd like the Den to weigh in. we're a smart fan base and there's a lot of knowledgeable folks here when it comes to football.

I value ALL of you and your opinions/thoughts....I may not agree with some of those -but it's the typical road here right,

I know you don't agree with several things I've said over the years-that's opinion for you. noidea nature.

Re: Favs....

For me, my favourite 2 players I put on my Sig when I joined here in '11 (CJ & Suh).

CJ - that's easy. He's Megatron. Held in awe by his peers. A freak of nature. He broke the mold. The most uncoverable WR the game has ever seen. And lastly.. the class, and the humility.

Suh - a freak of nature in his own right. Arguably the best DT in the game since 2010 (lump him in with Geno Atkins). Has lived up to the billing since the day he was drafted. He toes the line of what is clean or dirty in today's society, but for those that remember Alex Karras, Jack Lambert, Mean Joe, Nagurski, Jack Tatum, Butkus & Youngblood.. he's just representing the very same grid iron greats this league once glorified.

If I had to round out my top 5 I would also include: Joique Bell, Larry Warford, Ryan Broyles.

How about you?

Suh and Megatron. Both would start for every NFL team for the last 40'years.

Re: Favs....

Calvin Johnson & Larry Warford.

Pretty simple equation here:

While I know Suh is going to be the favorite and I like him a lot, I am going with Warford because he is and exemplifies everything our fan base has wanted for years now:

He's a young, elite OG who came in and instantly looked like he'd been to the Pro Bowl 10 times. And he cost us, virtually, nothing and will for several years. Such a score I can't begin to believe the luck we had with him.

Suh, while a mean and nasty defensive player, is also a victim of playing in the wrong era. It's not his fault, but his stupidity (or "style of play") in the so-called "no fun league" has cost us his services and when I'm thinking of the most positive guys on the team, he's not really in the discussion. Don't get me wrong....I get it: he shouldn't have to change and yada yada.

But, in the QB driven era, they're not going to let him slide either.

So, I am going with Warford in that: he's going to be among the great OGs we have ever seen, if not in history (yes, it's premature, but the guy was just lights out--how many OGs have won PFF's OROY? Seriously?). Larry is our Hutch and I have few doubts this kid is going to be the heart of our OL for many years to come

Didn't we trade that Delmas to the Dolphins for a Gatorade bag? It was like the 25th anniversary edition? Does that mean the Gatorade bag is now your favorite player?

I know it's moving up my short list.

It's not even in question. Megatron and Suh, and nobody else is in the running.

This

And they are our only Pro Bowl players, well at least until Theo gets there.

But CJ is easy to like because he is a class individual and humble which is rare in any Pro athelete espeically one that is argueably the best WR of all time.

Re: Favs....

I am with the majority here:
Calvin and Suh. Both elite level game changers overall.

I like the idea of expanding this to a top five. My 3-5 are:

3. Stafford. Matt has a lot to prove in 2014 but I LOVE his skill set and raw ability. I also love his passion. I look at the 2013 Dallas game for an example of that. This kid WANTS to win in a big way. He is gutsy and tough. And he is our QB. He just needs help with all the little things so important to the position. But he has the big things down (leadership, drive, want to win, strong arm, and smarts). If Caldwell gets the "little things" corrected (foot work, accuracy and so on) Matt is going to have a HUGE season.

4. DE Ziggy Ansah. 8 (or 9 sacks depending on the site) in 2013 while battling injuries. Ziggy graded out positively as a run stopper and that is HUGE. His pass rush was an overall negative grade and needs work. But I will take that overall. A full off-season and I expect some improvement if he is back 100%. This kid can be a game changer for us. A real freak. Maybe an elite level DE if he "get it" soon. Plus I just like this kid and his work ethic. I also think having his best friend on the team (Kyle Van Noy) will also help with team vibe. If Ziggy puts it all together he could be a 12+ sack/season guy.

Five is VERY tough. But I go with...

5. OG Larry Warford. This guy was born to play ROG. Strong, smart and a hard worker. I just LOVE this kid. A Pro Bowler waiting to happen.

If those five guys have great seasons the Lions are going to the playoffs. And all of them will get serious Pro Bowl consideration as well.

Re: Favs....

Pretty simple for me too. CJ and Suh are got my votes for best.
Joique Bell and Levy are my favs. Always felt Levy was a lot better then many here gave credit for. Last season was great.
Hopefully, Warford will crack that best list next season.

Re: Favs....

LOL ask for a 'Den Weigh-in' and get 11 replies LMAO , 360 + people looked at this piece (at this moment) and I get a dozen responses?? wow.

I know it's a weak post and exercise, but I am wanting as many opinions as I can get...not for the highest post count or some sht but because there are a TON of people that have something to say when they're bashing players like Stafford comes immediately to mind...who can say anything positive here??

I like variety I would LOVE to hear what you ALL have to say, not just 10-12 people that bothered to reply, trust me 'I APPRECIATE everyones views weather I agree with them or not.'

it's why I miss the Old Den so damn much there we SOOOOO many things being said and discussed, so many things going on...NOW it's like people are afraid to speak for themselves or at all...the left, don't come here any more, have better things do do, or visit-but don't participate in ANY discussion.

I EVEN WANT THE MODS TALKING often, I miss that!

You wanted to know who the top 2 players on the team were.  It's pretty obvious that it is Calvin Johnson and Suh.  Who else would it be?  If you want a bunch of responses make a better question.

no gk, this has nothing to do with responses, or post count. It's a simple question -lighten up biggrin

there are 50 + players on this team God only knows who favors who....it doesn't have to be "oh I like CJ and I like Stafford."

or CJ and Suh, I THOUGHT maybe we'd get some  other names tossed into the ring .

Pettigrew, Bush, Bell, Tulloch, Ansah, Warford, Levy, Tate, Ebron, Van Noy, maybe it's Broyles for some reason, Mathis, ...anybody can be in the mix as long as they're on the team now....even Leshoure....who knows....

post has nothing to do with me or any agenda....slow times bro.....easy ... maybe somebody is really pulling for player X to make it and that player IS his favorite.....geesh.

Mine are DEFINATELY Matthew Stafford above all, and  Brandon Pettigrew (because he HAS shown improvement over what he once was.)

see how easy that is. wink

Re: Favs....

I really like Reggie too.  I would like him more if he would quit fumbling at key times like he did last year.

And Bell.   Love the hometown boy making it big.   Hope he never exends the ball in front of him again though.

And I like Stafford.  Hope someday he develops consistency and reaches the potential he got the giant contract for.

Truth is I like Quinn, Levy, Ziggy, our youngsters on the Oline (RR, Wardaddy and Waddle) and Mathis

If they do the job I will like Ebron, Tate and our new safety who's name I can't spell

I pretty much don't like Pettigrew but I would if he would ever became somebody you could trust to throw the ball to in a key situatin and would not let a DB rip the ball out of his hands and take it to the house.

I like almost all our players. Pettigrew is the only one I don't really like at this point.  I don't have feelings either way about all our young CBs since they really have done nothing yet

Re: Favs....

I choose Grew, because out of ANY of the other scrubs that haven't shown anything, Pettigrew has and did.

I went from trying to defend him -to wanting him absolutely GONE off of this team, because he *was* that bad.

All of a sudden, he began to catch to affair tune, yeah-he still drops a few (good nick name for him), but at LEAST he doesn't drop EVERYTHING anymore.

I pull for him to get better yet this year because I feel if he doesn't, he could be gone along with the OTHER-separate players that haven't done anything in three seasons either.
