Yeah I'm confused.  He's 6' 7" and 267lbs.   How is he going to play DT?  He'll get mauled by OGs...

Isn't this something we talked about doing last year some too? For example we could do a DL of: Suh-Ansah-Taylor-Jones and move the guys around from there?

i have a really good feeling about taylor this year.  i hope he can be a more consistent and versatile player then willie young was early in his career and i think he's going to have plenty of reps this year to come up to speed.

Stunts.  Or maybe he is working on gaining some weight.  Taylor has a big frame, gaining 10-20lbs is not impossible, depending on what kind of weight he is looking to gain.

If I'm the Lions I wouldn't use Taylor inside much, with his speed they need him more at DE. Makes no sense to me, maybe on passing downs they think his length can bother the QB a little bit, maybe even deflect a pass or two.

Was that guy a real reporter?  He was way weird.

Anyways, he could "potentially go inside" is what the creepy reporter guy said twice.  He also said that he did it in his rookie season and could possibly do it again this coming season....whoa boy, that is insightful!

At 6'7", all he has to do at DT is stand at the line and try to bat some passes down.

exactamundo, Richie!

This is to get his big mitts into the passing lanes....in a wide 9, his height is a negative and completely marginalizes his ability to disrupt the passing lanes of the QB....inside...ahhhhh....yes....that's different...I can Suh and Taylo doing a good bit of swapping when Fairley is dialed in and crushing the pocket in....Speed rush from blind side by Ziggy, Fat Fairley charging like a mad bull through the C/G gap, Taylor throwing a net over the quick slant passing lane and Suh thundering through with his strength/agility....that's  a recipe for success...

If he trys to stand up at the los he is going to get driven ten yards back.

Really?  You are going to compare Taylor to a former first round draft pick, All pro and former NFL defensive player of the the year?

How many 6'7" DTs are in the league?  You don't think there is a reason for that?

Tony McDaniel is a 6'7 DT for Seattle.

But Devin Taylor isn't going to play DT. Do you think the Lions need more DT depth or DE depth? Hell Taylor might be starting at DE for us.

On a pass play?
my point exactly....DT will only be inside on select plays, most likely pass plays....guys that are focusing on batting passes down are coached to take a step or two of pressure  to get the OL on his heels and/or retreating, then pull up and read the QBs eyes....very plain to see by the strategy of Watt and others. Now, getting Watts results may be at issue, but he surely can be coached to follow the same strategy....

If somebody is going to move inside wouldn't it be Jones, who has some experience and some success there?   Only reason I can see for doing even that is if the Lions have injuries at DT and Caraun Reid isn't getting it done.   Or whoever the 4th DT is.

Didn't the Giants used to frequent a 4 DE defensive line on 3rd and longs?

My concern is not a bunch of DE's on the field at the same time, it's Taylor being 6'-7". But hey, if Bill Belicheck has taught us anything it's that you can put anyone anywhere as long as you only do it a few times a game. Taylor in the middle would make it tough on a guy like Bree's who relies on lanes in the middle of the line.

And it is Sapp that always says "long levers are strong levers."

Yep, a batted ball is the best coverage there is. And if you put those arms up and force the QB to pull the ball back down, sack time. This team has all sorts of options that were never explored by the previous staff. Taylor lacks the physical strength to do what Jones can do moving in and out, but he brings his own problems with those long arms.

Yes, they called it the "Nascar Package".

As for Taylor, I wouldn't make too much of it personally. He's a DE who will line up likely less than 10% of the time inside for the purposes of running a stunt or to simply get those hands up.

It's not like the staff will be leaning on the guy to go mano e mano vs Guards on HB Smash & HB Dive plays.
