According to an Mlive piece....

According to an Mlive piece....

It is said that CB Bill Bentley is showing signs of improvement, even impressing the staff and onlookers.

I hated Bentley before, but if ANY of those guys show noticeable improvement, I'm all for it ESPECIALLY in the secondary.  noidea

Agreed. Word of caution though, 'tis the season for fluff pieces where everybody is saying good things about everybody. Trust but verify, right?

One side: Bentley is going to be fine!
The other: Off season fluff

Me: we will see. I've expected a lot from BB the last 2 years to be lukewarm, but this is his first real chance to actually win a job based on experience on an NFL team and his skills. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Other than Mathis, our CB position is loaded with guys who are at the point in their careers where everything really starts to click. Hopefully it does for more than one of these guys.

Re: According to an Mlive piece....

Every year we hear how great everybody is looking running around in shorts and Tshirts with nobody hitting anybody.

Usually the reality doesn't live up to the hype.

If in fact Bently looks good my only thought is that its about time.  But then, until I see him looking good against the Packers and Bears my view is how he looks right now matters very little

This time next year we'll have some folks on here talking about how year 4 is really the time a CBs talent kicks in.

Some folks blew the trumpet for Spievey for many years as well.

Bentley is what he is at this point in my opinion. Unlike some of the other young CBs on our team, Bentley has had plenty of opportunity to prove his worth. And right now his worth is barely a Nickel Corner.

Bentley played well at times. He just keeps getting hurt.

Agreed.. Bentley has shown absolutely nothing except the ability to get injured. I'm hoping that both he and Broyles both get released.

I would say that our CB position is loaded with guys who are at the point in their careers where they need to step up and prove they can achieve at this level.  Some have shown glimpses. But they need to take that next step on the field.

As for anyone showing anything on the field so far... have they put the pads on yet?  (sincere question, but I don't think they have)  Until they are wearing full gear, it doesn't really count.

Every year it is the same crap about BB. BB is quickly becoming one of my most hated Lions and I hope he gets beat out for the NB spot by Lawson. I just get tired of hearing how great he is in camp and every season he is garbage!

Below average in coverage plus no ball skills, not a fan of Bentley at all.
gkelly: Stafford can always put these together when the game is out of reach.  He's simply a fantasy football QB who racks up stats in garbage time.

Any upgrades from our CB's would be marvelous.

Are we ever gonna win it??

Yep, Bentley has all the tools, and tssk tssk at those who claimed he has been "terrible." He like D Levy is having problems staying healthy early in his career. If he has a full 16 game slate of clean health watch out...

I wasn't a fan of Bentley day 1, he STILL has to PROVE his worth here in 2014....which I doubt he does.

honestly I think he's gone after he chokes this season, but a tiny part inside of me WANTS him to show he can kick ass this year, and then blossom into a sound player in years AFTER 'if' he can.

I want to see SOMEBODY make it -at least a couple. noidea

I want to see every player that puts on a Lions uniform to take big steps and become great players in the NFL.  That said, I have no illusions that will ever happen.  I am hoping Greenwood takes the big step.  I just like the kid and hope his injuries are done.

Re: According to an Mlive piece....

Greenwood and Green both have the physical tools, hopefully this staff takes a long look at all of them. Bentley has concussion issue's, so I get drafting more of a nickel type at CB. I have zero take on where we are at with the CB's other than to say we have enough dough left to sign a "final cut" type, and that might be our biggest hope.

I thought Bentley looked sharper at the end of last season as well. Not great by any stretch, but better.

Re: According to an Mlive piece....

I have long since gotten to the point where I am sick of hearing how good "Player X" looks in TRAINING CAMP

All I care about is how they look IN GAMES.

This is all just noise and the guys they talk about the most in shorts and Tshirts usually end up underperforming when it matters.

Show me the execution in a game.  Show me the Ws   I could care less how somebody looks running drills

I agree.  In my opinion he  was "decent" in the last 1/3 of the season

Re: According to an Mlive piece....

25 year old Bill Bentley (5;10" and maybe 185+) started 2012 as an outside CB for the Lions and he started 3 games in 2012 before going down with a season ending shoulder injury.

In 2013 he was moved to nickle back where he started out kinda rough but improved overall as the season went along:
"Second-year nickel cornerback Bill Bentley got off to a rocky start but has been pretty steady in the middle over the last month or so."
www.detroitlions.com/news/lion...b4-cce07274a2e8

Bentley seems perfectly situated as a nickle guy and I hope like heck he works out. This is a talented kid. He just needs to settle down. But 2013 was not good for Bentley:
"Bill Bentley is heading into Year No. 3 and hasn’t proved much of anything. Detroit used him almost exclusively in the slot last year (88 percent of the time) and his coverage rating was a -6. Teams completed 72.7 percent of passes thrown his way, the ninth-highest total in the league."
thedetroithustle.com/2014/05/1...-us-all-or-not/

Bentley better improve or he will be replaced. I think it is that simple.
