Contra Costa's Local Athletes

As much as I love what Zo is doing with my boys at Contra Costa, I'm curios as to when he'll put time into his local players. Everybody that has signed from CCC this year is from that Oak Ridge Military School in NC. Coach Otis Yelvertons last school, but what about the locals?

Hopefully, your coach will keep the word "community" in mind when putting his team together . . . Too many programs, including the one I support, short-change local kids playing time in lieu of winning with OOS talent.

The last CCC coach used mainly local kids. I believe his last season they went 1-9. He is no longer employed thereeek

Re: Contra Costa's Local Athletes

Where was all the compassion for the local kids that went to CCC over the past decade and received no scholarship offers and were consistent losers.

Keep in mind, good athletes do not want to play for a losing program. Especially when there is DVC, Laney, LMC and SFCC nearby.

Why judge Coach Carter on this past year without looking at the year before when there were several local kids that received D-1 scholarships. U. Mass, Murray State, North Dakota, P Veiw A&M, Md U and Idaho. Over 50 kids that year had a 3.0 GPA or better.

The current roster has lots of local tallent coming back.  Let's give coach Carter a chance and not stigmatize his program out of fear.

Re: Contra Costa's Local Athletes

Coach Carter deserves credit for all he is accomplishing, just like he did at Mac and at Berkeley, he is building a positive culture which benefits everyone.  I do not support people who knock him for bringing success to every program he has ever been with.

This past season CCC went 8-3 losing only to Sac City, Foothill and in OT vs Hartnell.  I think this season coming up, the schedules and league alignments for all Cal JC schools are locked, but in the following 2014 season, CCC will certainly be put into another conference.  I hope CCC at least gets into the conference with Siskiyous, Sac City, DVC, and FRC, all of these are very solid programs.  To be a competitor to win that conference, CCC will need rosters like Coach Carter is presently building.  But who knows, maybe CCC could even make the NorCal --Comets are building something really exceptional, the sky is the limit.

Of course, the ideal "dream alignment" would be a conference of  CCC, DVC, LMC, Laney, Chabot and Sac City, but that would really mess up the other programs --I think the people at the state level have the best understanding overall of what to do.  By the way, I still hope that Solano will somehow bring back their football program, but that "dream" has no evidence of materializing.

If the Comets will be locked into Bay Valley Conference, where they clearly dominate, their roster will be a mismatch --I definitely hope they will be moved up, maybe even this year ---does anyone know the schedule for their first five games this year?

We all want to see Berkeley/El Cerrito/Richmond/ San Pablo/ Vallejo/ Benicia players in Comet uniforms, no one more than Coach Carter --the best way to do this is to qualify grades and play great football.  Coach Carter has an open door for competitors, for winners.

Re: Contra Costa's Local Athletes

No offense to you or CCC but they did not dominate the bay valley at all, CCC was down by 18 in the fourth to mendocino only to mount a crazy fourth quarter comeback and win in the final minutes that does not sound at all like dominating, again no disrespect CCC is a great program but I do not believe they are way above other bay valley programs

Re: Contra Costa's Local Athletes

thanks for the correction, no offense intended,  I did not realize this game was so close.  Thanks also for promoting BVAL --
how do you see any future re-alignment?
do you think BVAL will stay with six schools and Mid-Empire stay with four?
how do you feel about out of state players on BVAL rosters?

Honestly I am not sure how the re-alignment should go, I wish just like many other people that solano would get there football team back but if CC wins the BVAL again then I would guess you have to move them up to the Mid-empire but if they do not another team that I think could be considered is Hartnell who no one really talks about who tied for the coast this year won it last year and played very well against a pretty competitive laney team.
I have no problem with out of state players on BVAL rosters I actually like it, I believe it makes the games more competitive and its not only CC which I like, I know Mendo and redwoods have decent number of OOS players as well as yuba so I like it
