Santa Rosa JC..... names new Head Coach

Congradulations to Coach Lenny Wagner named as the new Head Coach at SRJC... Coach Wagoner will bring his vast knowledge of football to the Santa Rosa program especially his expertise on defense having served as DC there and as an All American LB at Sonoma State.

Under Coach Wagners leadership at SRJC his defensive squad was always a well coached unit that was among the top defenses in the state. He was always a great mentor to the young men that played for him and was respected by his players as a players coach.......

I am positive that the community of Santa Rosa and the SRJC football program have made an exceptional choice in Coach Wagner and he will have the program back on top of the NorCal with his leadership and tenacity........... SRJC will once again be a force to reckon with under his tenure !!!! They could not have chosen a better man to fill the job..... congradulations again to Coach Wagner !!!!!

I agree, great hire. If he changes the offense to suit the local talent I think it will help but I promise the defense will be better. Great guy and glad to hear his son is doing better.

Thanks for posting this great news for both the Bearcubs program, and the NorCal Conference. Best of luck to Coach Wagoner.

And of course Congratulations to Coach Simons for his excellent career, and for leading the Bearcubs program so well since 1996.

Just my opinion but the past offense of the former head coach put points on the board but put tremendous pressure on great defenses that Coach Wagoner put on the field in the fact that the offense had no run philosophy and could not burn the clock with a potent running attack !!!! Many losses in the past were due to a non existent run game !!! I am hopeful that Coach Wagoner will have a different approach which I am sure that he will........... Again just my opinion but I feel that Wagoneer must have been frustrated as a Defensive Co. to see the offense throw the ball 50 + times a game keeping his defense on the field much of the game..........

SRJC certainly has selected an extremely gifted coach and a great person to head up their program..............

Congratulations to Coach Wagner, he will do a great job. He is an outstanding coach.

Coach Simons was one of the first to exclusively employ the Shotgun Spread No Huddle in JC Football. He took Santa Rosa from a B level program that had a lot of turnover at the Head Coach position and created a winning A Level program.

Let's also not forget that he was instrumental in hiring Coach Wagner to SRJC. Their recent setbacks are largely due to health reasons - Coach Wagner stepping down due to his sons illness left the program short handed as well as budget cuts which eliminated some of the part timers loads. Also Coach Simons himself will have had multiple hip/back operations in the past couple years.

Not making any excuses, the results are what they are, however, there is no doubt Coach Simons left SRJC in better shape than when he was hired, and therefore in my opinion made JC Football better. As a huge supporter of JC Football, the sport can always benefit from quality coaches.

I have a funny feeling he is not done permanently, just my opinion. Coach Wagner was a great hire and will do a great job, no doubt. To be continued.......
