Re: Butte at CSM 19 -11 - Final BC

Even though the game stats were very even,  I felt Butte was in control all day, fans in the stands said this was the best they have played all year.  Even after that early BC first and goal from the one resulted in only a FG, CSM could never get untracked.  The 72 yard Cameron Mikell TD late in the first quarter seemed to lock in the result early.  And that late 2nd quarter Mikell run into the red zone that set up the TD with 4 seconds left to Geoff Swaim was really impressive.

Butte did not fumble or give up INTs, OK, 2 long TDs came back on holding calls, but CSM could not take charge of the game.  Their offense seemed to always turn into the strength of the Butte defense.  Bulldogs WR Maurice Williams was terrific, but it takes more than one guy to beat a team like Butte.

Butte's Leon Holderhead is an amazing punter, consistently kept field position advantages for BC, and Butte's placekicker is reliable. Tevin Ivy made some brilliant CB plays, one acrobatic twisting INT.

With this win, Butte moves to 7-1 (2-1) and can come to CCSF in two weeks with a chance to win the conference.

CSM falls to 5-3 (1-2) and closes at DeAnza next week and at Santa Rosa.  CSM will host the annual Bulldog Bowl on Nov. 17th.

Re: Butte at CSM 19 -11 - Final BC

I think you hit it on the head. It will be tough to win a championship depending on a couple of big plays. But then again CCSF strength is not defense this year. I do think the run game and the run blocking has been the Shining star this year. As well as the run Defense, both pass D and pass O has had its struggles. The coaching staff seems focused on not putting the O in turnover situation and it worked great this weekend. McCoy and razor seems to be getting more snaps every week, his numbers in that formation are crazy. Go Butte

Re: Butte at CSM 16 - 5 @ Half

Butte ran a power formation against CSM where they shifted both the Fullback and an extra TE to the strong side --three very big guys --and basically ran off tackle into the formation --I think that is the formation that opened up for Mikell on the 72 yrd TD.  I think the pass plays to the FB were also productive, he had open zones under the deep WR routes all day.  But still, the game stats show time of possession dead even.
As for CCSF, ball control, zero turnovers, and keeping the yellow flags off the grass will be the best defense against them --Rams no huddle will make Butte's constant substitutions really tough, and CCSF is really loaded with skill position players.  Rams deserve the top ranking they have, they have earned it.

I know Butte will bring a big crowd to SF, maybe the game will even be broadcast --this game is always the highlight of the JC Football season, the NorCal title is on the line.

by the way, both teams have super punters from Australia --the kicking game never gets enough recognition --yesterday RoadRunners twice set up Bulldogs on the 40 with out of bounds kickoffs ---but the punting by Leon Holderhead was a game-changer --even the PA announcer was raving about him.  He gets both distance and air under the ball on his kicks, that puts his coverage guys right on the receiver deep down the field.

Re: Butte at CSM 16 - 5 @ Half

I was proud of how our boys came out with a quiet resolve. Against DeAnza, they were overconfident, almost cocky. That won't happen again this year. They had a few offensive mistakes. But after viewing the film, I can see why Jordan needed ten minutes at halftime to cool down. There were some BAD calls against our offense that would have resulted in scoring or an opportunity to score.

The defense took the ground game away from CSM (their strength) As a matter of fact, one of the CSM Dad's told me they threw more on Saturday than all their games combined! It wouldnt hurt my feelings if it rained like hell on November 10th.

Re: Butte at CSM 16 - 5 @ Half

I see Foothill as a "trap" game.  Butte is going to have to stay smart on both sides of the ball and let the offense do some work.  This game is where the work really needs to be accomplished and solidify both the O and D lines in order to plan for CCSF.

As far as the following week against CCSF....last year Butte beat themselves.  It could have been the hype or just the fact that attitudes got in the way.  I see this years team as a much more disciplined unit and the players are smart enough to turn away from that "second shove" and not get the penalties like last year.

CCSF is really a great program; however, I see how the coaching staff at Butte puts their hearts into the system every week and how they look after each and every player and keep these young men disciplined

I truly see Butte and CCSF as the "Game of the Year" for JUCO in California.

Re: Butte at CSM 16 - 5 @ Half

The last time Butte came to SF, it was a wild one --BC opened the game with an on- side kickoff, recovered and drove down the field but couldn't score and missed a FG from the 12 --Rams drove down 80 yrds to score and led 7-0 --then late in the 2nd qrtr, BC blocked a punt in the end zone for a TD, but their PAT was blocked by Nigel Malone who returned it all the way for 2 points --it was CCSF 9-6. Then CCSF took the next possession down for TD and a halftime lead 16-6.  Butte opened the 3rd with a long return to set up a TD, then another on a 30 yard run by Davidson --and it was BC up 20-16.  But then Jantz to Aaron Horne got 2 TDs for City and it was 30-20 Rams.

In the 4th CCSF got a long drive to go up 37-20 and it appeared over, but Roadrunners Jiles ran back the KO to make it 37-27, then with 5 minutes left another Roadrunners  drive closed it to 37-34--City stopped a potential game winning drive with 1:13 left on an interception by Chapman on the Rams 2 yrd line --final CCSF 37 BC 34.

Rams went on to beat Fresno but the trip south to face Mt. SAC went the Mounties way that time.

( hope reading about this incredible game will help pack the stadium on the 10th)

Re: Butte at CSM 16 - 5 @ Half

I don’t think that there will be an issue or concern of any kind with the stadium being packed.  The true focus is to beat Foothill and think about games one week at a time.  I didn't mean to bring this up to create the "hype".  It was more of a comment about the team and how hard that they have worked this year.  Of course everyone is looking forward to that game and there will be questions going into the CCSF game, however; we have to get past Foothill.

If you really want to look at the CCSF game, there are a lot of questions to be is the secondary(key the eyes and hands)...are the backers squared away(solid pursuit)...O Line (has to push and not release their blocks)....D line (solid penetration and no arm tackles)...receivers making the clutch receptions (you cant drop passes in your hands)...backs hitting the holes hard (running to daylight and green grass) and the QB staying calm in the pocket (trust in the O-line).  That is basic football and I think Butte has it this year but doesn't realize it.  It has been a really tough year and they continue to gel.  Every game isn’t perfect and no one individual is perfect.

The stadium will most definitely be packed and Butte is hungry.

Again...This WILL be the game of the year!!!!
