Mid-Empire Conf: Siskiyous 34 DVC 27

College of Siskiyous Eagles took a hard fought win at DVC and moved to 8-1 (2-0): Eagles close next week at Quincy against FRC with a chance to clinch the Mid-Empire and go to a bowl game.  COS used exceptional big play offense from Christian Reyes, Xzavious Harrison and Sam Williams, and brilliant kicking from Jon Everest, under the very steady leadership of QB Levi Cox, to get this really big win. On defense, Tommy Miller and Jarrius James led a strong effort.  Eagles have only an extremely close loss at Butte from being perfect 9-0.

DVC, 4-4 (0-1) played hard and played very well, their WRs are the best in the state, their QB, Quinn Kaehler leads the state in all statistics. And DVC put up significant ball control ground game numbers led by C.J. Best. Vikings RB coach Jabari Jackson has built up a strong running game.  Marquis Hatcher was fabulous on defense, as was the entire Vikings defensive squad --COS had to rely on big plays to get points, struggled to sustain anything against DVC.

Opening the 4th quarter, DVC trailed 26-13, but two Kaehler TD passes put them on top 27-26.  But immediately Eagles struck back, on a Cox pass to Sam Williams for 54 yards, then added a two point conversion to get the final score on the board.  The final 8 minutes were a tense battle for clock and field possession, and when the Vikings Diante Jackson was tackled in COS territory as the clock ran out, the Eagles erupted in celebration.

DVC hosts Sac City next week, then closes at Feather River; COS will be at FRC next Saturday looking to clinch a conference championship and a 9-1 record heading to a bowl game against Golden Gate winner.

Congratulations to both programs, great night at DVC's very scenic tree lined stadium.  And if anyone is interested, you can catch a pod cast of the game on I-tunes thanks to DVC's excellent sports information department.

Stop unrating Siskiyous level of play. They were the more physical team tonight and they played to WIN! DVC thought that this would be a walk in the park but Siskyous came to play like that have been doing all year! This is a really good football team Mr.Sir, & they haven't been over 5-5 since 2000 & haven't won more than 9 games since 1991. This 2012 Siskyous Football will be one to remember. I can't wait to see what they do next year.

Re: Mid-Empire Conf: Siskiyous 34 DVC 27

COS scored 4 TDs by big plays ( not by long drives-sustained offense):
  • 11:46 left  in 2nd --66 yrd pass, Cox to Harrison
  • 8:29 left in 2nd --fumble recovery runback for TD
  • 4:19 left  in 2nd -- 69 yrd run by Reyes
  • 8:07 left  in 4th -- 54 yrd pass to Sam Williams

I agree they were very physical, but DVC defense did force a lot of punts, and until the final 8 minutes of the game, COS did not sustain a lot of ball control --give DVC credit for that. Yes, Eagles OL broke Reyes for some big runs, but there were also a lot of punts.  I also think DVC ran well, enough to keep the sticks moving and their defense on the sidelines.
COS Defense really impressed me, especially the CBs matched up against Lewis and Jackson--Rowland was very good for Vikings in the middle of the field.
You are correct that COS is a terrific football team, they deserve a lot of credit for winning last night against a really strong conference opponent.  Everyone in the stadium last night was impressed by the football game Eagles brought to College Park. I hope the people who make up the rankings take notice --friends of mine from Butte and from Laney have been raving about COS all season, for sure, they know what they are talking about --we all saw that on the field and on the sideline last night.  Eagles coaches had their guys ready to play as soon as the bus rolled into the parking lot, and their game management was really stong.

Alright I do agree with that. They could have put drives together which would have made them look better statically but a win is a win and to be a underdog and come out on top of DVC was big for COS especially because of all the hype that DVC received for their early tough games & top ranked WR's. I too doubted COS because every year it would be the same 5-5 team now this new freshmen class has elevated the level of COS and to me has forced the returners to PLAY BALL. Being said that I wish COS the best of luck for the rest of the season but I'm so amped about next season and to see that #4 for COS actually get some carries.

I was at this game and thought for sure DVC would crush them since I saw the SF game and SMC game in which DVC should have won both. Siskiyous is impressive up front on both sides and have guys who can make big plays at the skill positions. It wasnt until after the game I found out Siskiyous started a back up QB(#16) for the first time and the team is mostly freshman too. Good job on beating a very good DVC team loaded with sophmore talent.
