There are no JUCO football programs in Florida. Only semi-pro teams (club teams) that if the player is 21yrs of age or over they lose a year of college eligibility for every year they play with these semi-pro (club teams).

Re: D2 looking for Safety/LB prospects for upcoming season

Youre right, its not a traditional juco team. Its a private club program ran EXACTLY like a traditional juco. All players attend the local community college (that makes them juco students) and play games against college jv squads for 2yrs ( that makes them athletes). Absolutely right about semi pro, but its far from that. Each player is a recent HS grad, have set academic standards and only lose elig because they are enrolled full time, not age. So with that they are juco student-athletes on a private club team. Call it what you will, but bottom line, they are a team of juco students and they will be one of the best teams in the nation when compared to any other team containing juco student-athletes. Traditional or not!

What a great business idea. Reminds me of Gattaca Football Club in New Jersey... Sorry buddy, but you can not compare the best teams in the nation to a football club that plays against NAIA jv teams and other football clubs (that makes it an insult to top teams).

Re: D2 looking for Safety/LB prospects for upcoming season

I understand but it's def not an insult. It's reality. Think of your best cali teams and their best players, can almost be certain they are from fla ( a lot of the time). Now think about when these kids stay home, then also add the ones who never make it to Cali because it's too expensive. Add it all up, and you are looking at one of the most talented teams in the nation. For example, Elco had a wr a few years ago, best in the nation, from Miami, signed with Cincinnati or the one who signed with fla st, surrency. When those kids stay home and play, that team is going to be a meat market for recruiters. Fla already is. Wait til guys start getting placed....whooooaaa nellllllly

I totally understand what your saying... Kenbrell and Corey are both my guys along with other players from Miami. Unfortunately guys like the 2 that you mentioned get recommended or placed by D1 recruiters to respective top JUCOs across the country, not in club teams. Anyhow, good luck in your upcoming season...

I can guarantee you no NCAA D1 school will touch a player straight from a "club/semi pro team"

Re: D2 looking for Safety/LB prospects for upcoming season

I respect both of y'all opinions. It won't happen over nite, but it will definitely happen. I know all about being placed having coached in the mississippi juco league. What you fail to understand is, if a student gets his AA degree from a fla junior college, they are eligible to enroll at ANY fla university. That means the 9 D1 schools can def get that stud in once he has that degree (especially UCF because of the direct connection). Every program starts somewhere ELCO, Mt. San, Pierce, weren't built over nite. Placing is about relationships and "who you know". Marshall signed Tuerene this year. If a Kid is eligible academically and athletically and he's one of the best players around, he will go D1. It only takes 1, then the flood gates open. #teamFla - get to know that term

Very good. I guess it's not for me to make judgement. If a kid can stay closer to home, get two years of college done and play ball, then more power to him.

Good luck this season!

I 100% agree with you. I deal with many D1 coaches across the country, and they won't even look that way.

RE: D2 looking for Safety/LB prospects for upcoming season

Again I respect that. I would guess that someone also told Hargrave and Atlanta Sports Academy the same thing when they started. And I know what youre going to say, " they are prep" but the bottom line is they are a club team that gets guys eligible, no matter how you look at it. What's funny is a lot of the guys we have, have made names with scouts already, they only have to get eligible. We have also heard from plenty of D1 coaches as they are trying to find out more about what we are doing. ONLY TIME WILL TELL #teamFla

Re: D2 looking for Safety/LB prospects for upcoming season

When you say touch you may be correct regarding giving scholarships, but it's possible to walk on and earn a scholarship once they get there. Playing for the club team just keeps them in football shape so they have chance to perform at the D1 level if they have the talent. There is a LB from Gattaca now on D1 South Carolina Gamecocks squad who walked on.

Re: D2 looking for Safety/LB prospects for upcoming season

The South has been in need of JUCO programs for years.  Mississippi isn't an option for most (due to out of state roster rules).  Georgia Military and Louisburg fill up quickly (Louisburg is also very expensive).  That leaves the Southern kids with fewer options than most regions of the country.  I do not know Mr. Hill.  However, I know of him.  I have heard nothing but good things about what they are doing down there.  That can't be said for all of these type programs.  I hope the Florida program works out.  These kids need the option of staying on this side of the country.

The Southern kids tend to refuse to leave.  That is something about this culture that needs to change.  However, if these programs are well operated...they will work.  The top 1/3 of JUCO programs are TOP NOTCH (operated and competition).  The middle 1/3 are solid.  The bottom 1/3...garbage (operations and competition).  Choosing to play at a well run program of this nature will give these kids similar experience as a middle of the road JUCO...and far better than taking them 3,000 miles away from home to a bottom feeder.

Good Luck Mr. Hill.  I hope the program does well.  It should return what you and your staff put into it.  Working with college coaches everyday on recruiting...tells me that this will certainly workout for the kids if you guys do it right.  The name on the jersey does help...the product wearing the jersey establishes relationships.
