Snow at Arizona Western

Posted: 11/10/2012 7:40 PM

Snow at Arizona Western

Snow up 33 to 12 at half.

Each team has 3 turnovers in the first half - each with 2 fumbles and a pick, I think all of which resulted in scores.  Snow averaging bascially 6 yards per play in first half to Arizona's 3 per play.   So far Snow is basically doubling AW in total offensive yards.

Snow up 40-19 in 3rd quarter.  Lots of offsides being called on AW.

Re: Snow at Arizona Western

Snow up 40-26 in 4th quarter.  Up two scores, Snow intercepted a pass in the endzone with 4 minutes left in the game to halt a furious comeback drive by AZW.  Multiple deep balls were dropped by AZW that could have gone for scores on this drive.  However, AZW continued to move the ball up the field.  Then Snow intercepts in the endzone to maintain control of the game and keep the matadors out of the endzone.

Re: Snow at Arizona Western

Snow wins 40-26 in Arizona and beats AZW for the first time in several years.  With the win snow secures outright title for the western conference for the first time since 2008, which  otherwise might have been a 3 way tie with AZW and Glendale until Glendale also lost their last game.  AZW is clearly a talented team.  The put a lot of pressure on snow's qb and gave him some punishing hits that very easily could have knocked him out of the game.  On offense they had several players that gave Snow fits trying to contain them.  Overall an impressive win on the road for Snow.

Since the TOMB bowl is not being played this year, Snow will look for an invite to a bowl game.

Stats:
Snow
141 rushing
339 total offense

AZW
184 rushing
194 passing
378 total

each team punted only once.

each team lost 2/2 fumbles

19 penalties for AZW

27:42 time of possession for snow
32:18 time of possession for AZW

Snow
5/9 on third downs

AZW
5/11 third downs

AZW leading rusher was the QB: 119 rushing 3 td, 2 interceptions.  He was the leading scorer for AZW.  180 yards passing 2 picks 2 sacks

Snow QB was 12/22 for 191 yards , 3 tds, 1 sack.

One of snow's players had 11 tackles in this game.

RE: Snow at Arizona Western

Do you have any knowledge of why the bowl isn't being played? I'm assuming like most things, the answer is money. Did Zion's Bank not renew their sponsorship? Sad that such a good bowl falls by the wayside.

I don't claim to have any inside knowledge.  But the rumor is that it was a combination of both Zions Bank not renewing their title sponsorship and additionally the new athletic director was interested in a change of scenery -to give the kids a chance to play somewhere besides SLC for a while.  It may serve as additional motivation to play better if they aren't basically guaranteed to go to a bowl game and instead have to be invited to play somewhere else.
