Re: week 9 pick'em

this coffeyville team isn't really very good and the x-butler coaches are playing a quarterback that really can't play..

they do have the second string guy who can motor and should start; he might give butler some fits.

several years ago there was once a Highland team that took ole' Butler to the woodshed.........don't count those chickens until you see them on the ground.

that football bounces some funny ways sometimes and the cville coaches have your play book guys'. cool

Re: week 9 pick'em

If you have to go back to 2006 to find a flukey enough game to justify your criticism -- well, I guess that speaks for itself.  (NOTE:  Highland played that game with ineligible players and was later sanctioned for it -- not sure if that game was technically forfeited after the fact, but it should have been).  Could CV come in and get a bunch of lucky bounces and compete?  I suppose so, but I wouldn't take that to Vegas.

A few additional thoughts:

Butler's last 3 conference losses (including that Highland game in 2006) have a few things in common -- they were on the road, in the rain, and played on grass (read: mud) fields.  This week's game will be at Butler and on turf, but I suppose you can still pray for rain.

Running Qb's don't scare Butler -- ask GC or every Hutch team of the last 5 years.

Butler has CV's playbook, too.  Who do you trust more to do something with that information?  Troy, Braet, and Schafner -- or the CV guys?  I'll stake my claim with the Butler coaches, especially considering the talent disparity that they're working with.

Re: week 9 pick'em

Butler has been the "class" of the Jayhawk for several years and I applaud them, but in 06 Highland did not use ineligible players, they were not sanctioned, and they did not forfeit.

The game was at Highland, it did not rain, and the field was soft, but not muddy. We just had a gutsy little quarterback who was on a roll that day and picked Butler apart.

And we haven't done much since.

that little note I posted did not proclaim Victory, nor do I believe there will be one.

I just mentioned funny things happen in a football game and these games between the Red Ravens & Butler have been some tense one's over the years, if you have been around a while you know that.

a few years down the road with Flores recruiting we both will be talking a little different; AND you know that to. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

i hear you.  glad that this rivalry still means something even if it has been lopsided in recent history.  i do want cv to be strong.  the conference and butler need it!  they have a name and tradition that people recognize.  again, i do want them to be good and to be a nationally ranked team every year and the second best team in our conference - i am just not convinced as you that the group they have there now is going to get it done.

one thing is certain, there is going to be some tension with these staffs colliding for the first time.  it could either help keep it close or lead to a giant blowout.  i think troy doesn't take his foot off the accelerator once during the game.  once butler has them down on the ground, i think they're going to step on the raven's throat.

I agree with you!
Flores has a good memory; if Troy shows no mercy the day will come that Flores will show no mercy.

i kid, i kid.

serious question... how long can flo last at cv without beating butler?  is the alumni and college content to being #2 in conference, and hopefully they climb their way back up there.  will they give him as long as he wants, as long as he can produce winning seasons, or is beating butler part of it?

Re: week 9 pick'em

flo as you call him will beat Butler; actually NEO this year can beat butler; NEO is the only junior college playing football in the state of oklahoma AND they got a bunch of "big" very good football players this year, good coach, good hard to defend plays in the play book AND what and see they will win the southwest conference this year.

we all know the southwest conference is tuffer top to bottom the kansas! biggrin
