Coffeyville finishes 3rd in conference play and are in the finals. Not bad for our new coaches first year at Coffeyville.

RE: How about This ???

Exactly where CV finished last year. 4-2 regular season. Garden City went from 2-4 in conference last year to 4-3 this year, and could have knocked CV into 4th place last night. They had more of a turn around from last year than the Ravens, IMO.

Re: How about This ???

I would be willing to guess that CV fans expected more out of this season than they got.  Sure, CV finished third, but it was an ugly third place, having to squeak out wins against lowly Highland and Fort Scott, and scraping by Garden City.  I'm pretty sure that before the season, you all claimed that CV would be, at a minimum, competing with Hutch for #2 and have a chance at knocking off Butler.  CV was waxed badly by every decent team that it played and was fortunate to claw its way into third.

I'm not saying that's an unsuccessful season, but it's not worth crowing about, either.  I expected CV to finish 3rd, but be more competitive with Hutch and have less trouble with lesser competition.  I think most CV fans expected the same or more.

RE: How about This ???

Coffeyville went 5-2 not 4-2, 8 teams in the conference. I think they did well for signing a coach in January. Not many players left to pick from. I did not brag about
ravens before the season started. Its time for the ravens to prove it. I have
ate crow to much from bragging before the big games happen. I am looking forward to couple more years down the road. Coaches do make a difference. Look at Kstate, the old man is showing them how its done. Look at NEO, Dale Patterson has got the norsemen playing tough. He was there many years ago back when they were contenders: Bio:

A graduate from Okmulgee High School in 1965 and attended NEO, where he lettered under Robertson as an offensive lineman.  He transferred from NEO in 1967 to attend Drake University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1969. He later received a master's degree from Pittsburg State University, (PSU) in 1983.  Patterson joined the OSU staff in the summer of 2004 after a highly successful career as head coach at NEO.  During his eight seasons as head coach at NEO, Patterson guided the Golden Norsemen to a 60-26 record, including Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) championships in 1998, 2002 and 2003. High national rankings were commonplace for NEO under Patterson, including a No. 2 finish in 2002, and he was named the SWJCFC Coach of the Year in 1998, 2002 and 2003. In 2004, he received the Merv Johnson Integrity in College Football Award from the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

60-26 70% wins in the southwest conference is pretty good. He left in 2004. Came back a couple years ago and guess what they just won the southwest conference sauturday over navarro. The same navarro team that beat Hutch by 20 earlier this year. NEO lost 1 game in overtime this year. It will take Flores a couple years to get it going but I think he can/will do it. biggrin

RE: How about This ???

Coaches definitely make a difference. Some guys just win wherever they go with whatever players they have available.  Schottenheimer was a guy like that in the NFL.  Snyder is an excellent example, too.  Then, of course, there's Morrell, Braet, and Schaffner -- those guys have had a pretty good track record at Butler.

It remains to be seen whether Flores can be that kind of coach.

I think CV underperformed expectations.  I think most people had CV finishing 2nd or 3rd.  The fact is, they never competed for second, getting convincingly beaten by Hutch and Butler.  They were also soundly beaten by a mediocre Trinity Valley team.  And, they struggled mightily to beat Highland (7-3), Fort Scott (double OT), and AFP (29-23), and just squeaked out a victory over GC to hang onto third place. Their only semi-impressive wins were over Dodge City (52-13) and Independence (38-19).  Sure, it's 5-2 and third place, but it was the ugliest 5-2 3rd place season one could have imagined for CV.  I don't think most fans (of CV or otherwise) would have thought that CV would struggle to a 3rd place finish the way it did.

Just going by the conference website.  FS games were not counted as part of the conference record last year if I recall correctly.  Plus, you pointing out that detail does not support the idea that anything has changed.

Great first year for Coach Flo. They will be a force very soon. Finishing third in the best conference in the Nation is nothing to hang your head about.

IT STILL IS BETTER THAN THE JAYHAWK. Coffeyville is the 3rd best team in that league?!?!?!
Butler is good, Hutch is suspect, the rest are GARBAGE, so "Best conference in the NATION" once again LOL

God you sound like an Ol Miss or texas a&m fan championing the secsecsec as the greatest conference evaaaaar!

guess what... it doesn't matter.  those two universities are mediocre (at best) and not relevant nationally, but get their rocks off chanting secsecsec! no one doubts the best teams in each conference is good.  who cares about the rest?

who cares about conferences at all?  i care that my butler is is the best juco in the nation for over a decade now.  results are what matter - everything else is just noise.  results... you know, national titles and sending kids on to play at the next level... those are the only two things that matter in juco ball.

"Who cares about conference" I bet you will when Nassau passes Butler in the polls and plays for a NC... The all mighty jayhawk isn't getting a lot of respect from an unbiased computer.

I actually don't believe the jay hawk is the best. I'm not sure there is a clear best, but that doesn't make you any less delusional. Butler is the best juco football team in the nation, and they're going to prove it in Iowa in a month or so.

i can't wait to come back and quote this absurdity from you in a few weeks.

and no matter what happens, everyone knows now that there will not be a mississippi team playing in the NC game, so like jayhawk alum, when there is nothing good or decent to root for in your own squad, go ahead and pray for the demise of whoever is on top.  butler has been on top for quite some time, so fans/players/coaches are used to it.

watched "Seven" tonight with my wife for halloween... i think it'd serve you well to hear about envy... feel free to click the link on the text to see exactly what i mean:

"To envy  is to feel resentful and unhappy because someone else possesses, or has achieved what one wishes oneself to possess or to haveachieved"

Re: How about This ???

Garden City and Coffeyville both would blow away any team in Mississippi this year. Coffeyville coach was in MS two years ago, why did he come back to Kansas? Sure as hell not money. Same as many many others. Hopefully K-State gets a shot at an SEC team this year. Teach them Honey Boo Boos a lesson.

lol - the only reason i know the answer to that question is because you asked it.  i actually know nothing about juco basketball.  i don't pretend to follow it, and i don't pretend to care.  that's cool if that's your thing.  every college needs to have one sport its fans can be proud of, so kudos to coffeyville.

this would be the perfect year for a playoff.  last year would have been, too.  can you imagine how awesome the football would be...

2011 semifinals...
Bama v Okie State
LSU v Stanford

2012 semifinals (current standings)...
Bama v Oregon
Notre Dame v K State

I'm delusional??? Coffeyville would beat any team in MS??? Are you serious, the same team that beat Highland 7-3, the same team that got beat 35-7 by Trinity Valley, or the same team that beat AFP by less than a TD... Grow up!

Garden City has an athletic QB, but I highly doubt any team that gets +80 points put on them by a jayhawk team would blow away any team in MS.

ONCE AGAIN LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
