Re: SCFA All Academic Team
There are 15 schools on this list out of the 32 schools that represent the SCFA.
I doubt any school doesn't have at least one B plus football player.

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
Irregardless of promises to the contrary ("there will be mandatory study hall and grade checks"), this was not part of the program at RCC. After the fact, that is, after grades were out, it was said that the budget was not approved for that. I don't know why there would need to be a budget when tutoring is provided for free to each and every student enrolled at the school. Wouldn't you just require them to participate in the same program as any regular student should?

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
What was Dalton's GPA? RCC is finding themselves. Mt SAC is an established program, two academic counselors (one is retired from that position) coach the team. How many schools can say that?

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
Let's not forget that this is actually tough to achieve. Especially for 18 and 19 year olds, who spend a lot of time training for football and probably did not have the best study habits to begin with.

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
Your point is well taken and that is why some JCs make it mandatory to attend study hall............ especially for freshman and of course those with a shaky transcript....
I know some schools that not only require study hall and tutors but also have an academic advisor helping the student/athletes sign up for what classes and what instructors !!!!

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
Congrats to all the kids who made the list and their coaches all of whom should be very proud they are true student athletes Glad to see the OC well reprensented with 51 kids
Santa Ana 14
Fullerton 13
SB 10
GW 8
OCC 6
this is no easy feat especialy with all the the budget cuts. Unlike in years past some schools have no academic advisor / counselor dedicated primarily for the student athletes and the much of the responsibility for academic guidence and support is now is done by the efforts of the coaches

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
Look everyone, if this list has ALL our B+ football players on it WE are all in trouble. 32 teams...let's round down to 80 players per team, that makes 2560 players around 100 of which made this list. Total winning percentage 3 not .300, not 30percent, 3 that's one kicker, a redshirt and one cheerleader 3% of our football players are getting B's and A's. Look, before we start thinking it's too hard. I did it. And I had a fulltime job and a house payment, it not easy, but there has to be some accountability. This list cannot be all We're all missing the main point if every school has turned in their B student. Half the schools don't have one "B" student...not one? I know my math above is off because it only counts for two year students and I round down, but how many redshirts are there? Hey, student/athletes the idea here is you get good grades and work hard on the field and JUCO gets you to four year schools. You gotta pull your weight guys, all three hundred pounds

Re: SCFA All Academic Team
Good points Mountie. But to analyze further. Most JC rosters are not heavy on Sophs, as most quit who do not start or get a lot of playing time. Most of the top players we read about here, were non qualifiers, thus probably do not have the best "academic abilities" and struggle to get a 2.0 and their "eligible courses"
You need to get a 3.0 with 36 units of which 27 must be academic (non PE) and transferrable. If you look at the JC players who stick around through their Soph season, these numbers may be about right.
