Tie Breaker
Question- Say Palomar wins against OCC this week with a bye next week and finishes 8-2. GC and Sadd play the final week of the season (provided they both win this week) and Sadd wins. That would give Pal, GC and Sadd identical records (4-2) league and over all (8-2). GC beat Pal, Pal beat Sadd, Sadd beats GC. What would the 2nd place conference playoff tie breaker(s) be? I know coulda, woulda, shoulda, but it could very easily happen.

RE: Tie Breaker
With the possibility of a three way tie for second, Saddleback wins the tie-breaker by virtue of them beating the highest ranked non-conference opponent in Mount San Antonio in week 4. Palomar can only get in if Grossmont loses to Santa Ana this week and Saddleback in the last week. This would present a tie with Palomar and Saddleback and Palomar goes by beating the Gauchos head to head.

Re: Tie Breaker
i personally think sadd winning the tie breakers is BS...palomar was 6 pts from being undefeated. out of conference play should not determine who goes to playoffs or not...

I know it's a daunting feeling to hope for a Don uprising over the Griffins to keep the Comets' playoff chances alive, but the assertion that Palomar belongs in the playoffs because they were "6 pts from being undefeated" is absurd. You know what, "I was 6 tenths of a second from running a 4.4 forty" I should have gotten that full ride to USC instead of Junior Seau. SCFA bylaws are voted by the quorum members (coaches, AD's) and those rules are what they all play by....don't like the criteria, then change it. Or simply be like the Hornets and take care of business during conference play so that the tie-breaker rules wouldn't be bothered. If the Gauchos decide to take care of their business in 2 weeks they deserve to be in the playoffs just as much as any team in the tough southern conference.

Re: Tie Breaker
One thing about the playoffs, the ninth team will always be pissed. But if 20 teams made the playoffs, the 21st team would find a way to say it's not fair. The fact that 8 teams are in, just about guarantees that whoever the best team is, is most likely gonna be in the playoffs. We can't ask for much more than that. If you get left out because the other team beat a higher ranked opponent, well, you shouldn't have lost two games. You lose two games in the North and you won't even get a sniff.

Re: Tie Breaker
I may be mistaken but doesn't the playoff system change next year eliminating the auto qualifiers and just taking the top eight teams?

Re: Tie Breaker
I have not heard Tommy. I wonder how the champs of the lower divisions would like that. I wish the COA would stop treating the North and South as different states and give both sides the same playoff system, or at least the same amount of teams. Heck the Norcal and Valley conferences are a dogfight right now with most contenders seeming to be of equal ability.

Re: Tie Breaker
A buddy of mine suggested the three teams meet at Pala Casino and play craps for the 2nd spot. At least the two teams that didn't get in would enjoy their weekend.

Re: Tie Breaker
Here is the wording for next years playoff system if it passes legislation at the CCCAA meeting in the spring. This is from the COA website and it was put in by the commisioner of the SCFCA 2.3.3 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SEEDING Playoff/bowl game participants will be selected and seeded using the following process: A. The champions of theNational Division conferences (the National-Northern, the National-Central, the National-Southern) and the next five (5)highest ranked teams in the final CCCFCA/COA poll will compete in an eight (8)-team playoff to determine the Southern California regional champion to advance to the state championship game versus the Northern California regional champion. (Also stated in CCCAA Football Championship Handbook Section 1.4.3 CCCAA Southern California Football Playoff Format.) If champions of the American Division fail to make they playoffs, they would automatically make a bowl game.

Re: Tie Breaker
why does the local fish wrap say BC has to beat COC, to win the conference outright. Sorry, but BC beat Hancock and Ventura, so how does that work? Is there no tie break there? Hmmm. Guess BC just has to beat COC and they should, or there should be no crying if they don't

Re: Tie Breaker
Well technically if BC loses, there will be a tie for the championship of the Northern Conference with whoever wins the Hancock/Ventura game. But the only difference in a loss to Canyons is how high BC is seeded.

Re: Tie Breaker
If BC beats Canyons, they'll be no lower than a 3 in my estimation.
