2014 season to be GREAT

AS YOU ALL KNOW MR RULE IS QUITE THE CHARACTER. .BUT ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE FROM THE KING. .I BELIEVE WE ARE ALL IN FOR ONE OF THE MOST EXITING SEASONS EVER IN CALI JUCO . TEAMS LIKE PALOMAR. GROSSMONT ELCO. THAT USED TO ALLWAYS BE IN THE MIX I BELIEVE ARE DUE TO CAUSE A SHAKEUP. OTHERS LIKE COC. CITRUS AND NOW LONG BEACH. GOLDEN WEST. MAKING BIG STRIDES. THIS PROMISES TO BE A TOOTH AND NAIL SEASON .AND NOW THE NORTH ACTUALLY HAVING TO. HAVE A PLAYOFF GAME THAT NOW DOESNT GIVE THEM THE ADVANTAGE AS GETTING EVTRA WEEK OF REST. AND ALSO. THEY NOW WILL RISK JUST LIKE THE SOUTH OF KEY PLAYERS GETTING INJURED. ITS NOW ON A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. SO VS NORTH. .ALLTHOUGH I TRUELY BELIEVE THE SOUTH HAS A WY MORE DOMINANT. GAUNLET OF TEAMS TO GO THROUGH ..IN CLOSING YA SURE WE ALL HAVE A LITTLE FUN POKING AT EACH OTHERS TEAMS BUT THIS IS NORMAL BEING JUCO FOOTBALL FOLLOWERS. AS FAR AS RANKINGS AND POLLS GO. YOU MAY AS WELL TOSS THEM OUT THE WINDOW FROM OPENING KICKOFF .BOTTOM LINE LETS HAVE A REAL. SWELL,KEEN, BOSS,BADO ,GROOVY ,SEASON GENTS

Re: 2014 season to be GREAT

Getting a extra week (2 weeks?) to game plan for the State Championship game has had to be a great advantage for the North - not that CCSF (and others) haven't had some some great teams.

Nothing against MtSAC (CCSF) but the fact that you don't automatically pencil them in pre-season to win SoCal makes JC football a whole lot more interesting. Even through our Gades had an off-year last season - 2013
was an exciting year. Like you say GR - lots of new names - lots of great teams.....the suspense is back in SoCal JC football.

GO BIG RED!

Re: 2014 season to be GREAT

Here in Northern California, we are really looking forward to the restructured alignments and the building up of stronger local rivalries.

Have one question for those posting here --last year's CIF championship games at Carson had some serious talent on the football field --do you know if any of those players chose to attend and compete in SCFA community colleges?

Is there a way within the existing rules to promote choosing community colleges to California HS football players? do HS coaches instruct well enough their guys about the "first contact for out of district" rule?

Bakersfield College won't get the blue chippers, but they should get good support from State Champion Bakersfield High. They were pretty deep and had some players who might have had better stats had they been on another high school team.

Glenpark: the first contact rule has changed for California residents. Colleges used to only be able to contact kids within their approved contiguous district. The CCCAA changed that and now any JC in the state of California can contact any kid in the state without the player making first contact. The rule however is still in affect for all out of state prospects.

Then there are really no in-state recruiting boundaries anymore?

That must be pretty recent news since the CCCAA still has a list of recruitable High Schools for each college.

Re: 2014 season to be GREAT

Current policies posted regarding the recruiting of an out-of-area athlete . . .

Can I be recruited by any California community college coach?

No. Coaches may only recruit in their recruiting area. California is divided into community college districts. A district is the local community which the community college serves. A coach may recruit athletes from the college’s district and those districts that share a common boundary or are immediately next door. The recruiting area is the college’s district high schools and the contiguous district’s high schools.

Can all California community college coaches meet with me and my family in person?

No. A coach cannot travel outside his or her recruiting area to meet with you, your family, or team.

If you do not live within the borders of the recruiting area and you wish to meet with a representative of the out-of-area college, then you must go to that area to meet with the coach in person. You are permitted to contact the coach by phone, mail or internet

Re: 2014 season to be GREAT

No Diabalo.. That rule changed and went into affect in June of this year. Any California resident can now be contacted first by any JC in the state. Coaches cannot go visit them or attend games and speak to them but they are allowed to call them, email them, text them, facebook them etc. I'm sorry you havnt been informed yet but that is the new rule. The whole state is now fair game to any JC

Re: 2014 season to be GREAT

Given these new clarifications, and assuming they are being accurately represented here, how are these being communicated to CIF football coaches and athletic directors? Or more accurately, to student athletes and families trying to make the best decisions moving forward?

People on this Board are likely among the best informed in the state, it is surprising that this significant change is being noticed this way.

I think we can all agree, playing community college football is a terrific life experience, making the proper selection of a school that best fits both on the football field as well as in all other aspects of student life, depends on accurately complying with all eligibility rules. Let's hope the CCCAA and CIF will issue this revision in clear language. Every coaching staff deserves full and equal disclosure of the rules.

FootballattheBeach:

This is the CCCAA rule currently stated on its website:

do you know where the June change you mention has been posted? is the posting of the rule in process of going forward? how is it being circulated?

Re: 2014 season to be GREAT

Maybe this is the reason that RCC is being a little more "closed" about who they have coming in this year (as C2 mentioned). I guess players are fair game right up until season. If you don't like your QB call around and see if some other team's backup is interested. If this is the new rule it could change things a bit .
