ASA College-Miami Football

Posted: 06/08/2014 12:11 PM

ASA College-Miami Football

ASA College-Miami will be the new NJCAA football program with their first playing season in the Fall of 2015. This Fall of 2014 will be a red-shirt season for the student-athletes.

This will be an actual JUCO out of Miami, FL. NOT a club team that has its players take classes at a local community college. They are a real JUCO in Florida (The only one!).

On a serious note......who will they play. The closest NJCAA teams are in Mississippi, I believe. That's a lot of travel.

Logistics . . . Those will be the real questions . . . Schedule? Budget to travel? Other CC's have the funds to travel to FL? Can they play NAIA or D-3 colleges? I believe Butte, at least the last time we ( MSAC) played them, have OOS players from Flordia . . .

If memory serves me well, I remember a game last year where MS was leading 17-3 in the 1st quarter and blew the game losing 33-30 and losing the conference and not making the playoffs... HMM? No competition, right?....

Re: ASA College-Miami Football

Mississippi schools do not play anyone out of conference. They have enough teams that they can play a full schedule, have playoffs, and host their on bowl games. Actually, the closest JUCO is Georgia Military College, which they'll have on their schedule. They have also reached out to a few independent JCs that would want to schedule. Meet half way possibly. There is also Louisburg College in North Carolina, but I doubt that they would want to play ASA Brooklyn and ASA Miami in the same season. In Florida we have 2 D1AA teams, 1 D2 team, and 4 NAIA teams. All but 2 of the NAIA teams have JV teams. Those JV teams consist of freshmen and sophomores that don't play as much with the regular teams. So they have these JV teams to play other university level JV teams and JUCO teams to get those players reps.

Maybe the State of Florida will wake the F up and change the bylaws of not having JUCO football in their state run community college system. Its ridiculous!!! As of now, ASA College-Miami I the only show in town.

2014 will be a red-shirt year for the guys in the fall. 2015 will be their first playing season. Besides football, they will also have baseball, men's basketball, men's soccer, track and field, and men's and women's tennis. Budget is not an issue at ASA College...

Can't speak for FC, but wrong state for MSAC Tiger951 . . . Might want to try Butte College, at least a few years ago they had FL OOS players on their roster . . .

And let's not forget the RCC pipeline for quarterbacks repsonsible for your most successful seasons . . . Hint? This state has three teams representing this fine state in this weekend's College World Series . . .

Re: ASA College-Miami Football

I've been checking our roster (MSAC) over the past three years . . . No FL players on our rosters, but Kevin is correct, I did check three programs with OOS rosters, they indeed list players from FL . . .

I doubt that almost every one has FL players. Some, but not almost all.

Re: ASA College-Miami Football

There are Florida players on rosters galore. And Georgia, Texas, Alabama, ...

There are 140 something JCs with football programs. Go check it out. God knows I have ... I've only been doing this since 1998.
