I don’t remember seeing a final end of the season national poll, or did I miss something?  Not that I would expect to see BC on top with 2 losses but it would have been interesting to have a look-see.  That’s not to say I don’t think BC could have beaten whomever ended up #1 by the end of the year, but with 2 losses it just would have taken another game to prove it.

Re: Final Poll (National)?

AC............. just my opinion but BC should rate in the top 5 nationally and certainly in the top 10 nationally at season`s end. Based on what they did in the playoffs to the 2 teams that beat them in the regular season shows the BC team had contiously improved as a team throughout the season.......... also, their regular season schedule was against top flight programs, not many breathers in their 10 games.

Most impressive was their playoff run........ going on the road and beating 2 undefeated teams that accounted for BC`s losses in the regular season was an amazing feat in itself. They completely dominated Ventura 48-8 and then turned around the next week and manhandled Mt Sac on the road !!!! In the State Championship game they totally manhandled and destroyed CCSF leading early in the game by a 28-0 score......... the game was over at the start of the 2nd Q !!!!!

BC has to be ranked on their playoff run as one of the best teams in the nation..........

Re: Final Poll (National)?

I go along with the “manhandled” label, as far as it goes, with BC vs. VC and CCSF and understand what you mean by “manhandle” with MS. But in the MS game, BC had to take the win by wanting it just a bit more than MS did. MS does not give games away or come unprepared…..ever.  Let’s take a look at MS’s two losses over their last umpteen wins in SoCal over the last several years.  Both see-saw battles:

                                                                                      MS vs. BC

MS  12 RCC  0     1st Q                                                                     MS  7 BC 0          1st Q

MS  12  RCC  7    Half                                                                       MS  7 BC 3          2nd Q

 RCC 14 MS 12    3rd                                                                                                BC 10 MS 7         2nd Q

 MS  19 RCC 14   3rd                                                                                                MS 14 BC 10        2nd Q

 RCC 22 MS  19   4th  *Livingston 91 yd. pass                                     BC 17 MS 14        2nd Q

 RCC 29 MS  26   4th                                                                                                MS 21 BC 17        Half

 MS onside kick….final.                                                                     BC 23 MS 21        3rd Q

                                                                                                       BC 30 MS 21        4th Q

I learned the beauty of the number 9 toward the end of the MS game.  A 9 point lead was the only thing that would allow me to relax a bit in the last couple minutes of the game.  MS’s quick strike power has been notorious in games with the Gades over the last several years.  Just as MS took BC’s 17-14, end-of-the-2nd-quarter lead away in about 9 seconds (the time it took their kickoff returner to run 90+ yards). If either of these 2 games could be called a “manhandle” it’s because that’s the way you have to play to win a game against Mt SAC.

Re: Final Poll (National)?

If manhandled means between the tackles, then yes, BC did just that to Sac in the playoff game; their other two playoff games need no explaining by the final scores vs VC and CCSF . . . Where does the best team in CA usually end up on an annual basis for the final national ranking? This year's team is worthly of the same consideration, rank them justly . . .

Re: Final Poll (National)?

BC manhandled Sac in the second half............... BC put up 13 points and held Sac to 0.. ZERO !!!! BC dominated the second half and did it on Sac`s home field !!!! That is why I said they manhandled them...... BC won the game in the 3rd and 4th Qs.......... on the road shutting Sac down !!!

Re: Final Poll (National)?

I maintain that BC dominated the game..... came from a deficit at half and outscored Sac in the 3rd and 4 Qs while holding Sac on their home field to nada.... zip.... zero...0 points a goose egg on the score board !!! That was impressive in my opinion more impressive than the Ventura and CCSF games as the Gades won those games by the half...... !!!!

Re: Final Poll (National)?

BC vs Iowa Western would be a great game, but hard to argue against IW being ranked #1. They beat the best NJCAA teams.

Re: Final Poll (National)?

BC's playoff run . . . Winning by:

40 vs VC, away

9 vs Sac, away

21vs CCSF, home

How would you rank these wins?

Also, looking at their season's schedule and record, the 4 OT loss to VC must of been a hell of a game?

Re: Final Poll (National)?

What was Ventura ranked when they were undefeated and beaten by Bakersfield 48-8 ?? And, the next week when Bakersfield beat Mt Sac 30-21who also was undefeated, what ranking did Sac have ??? BTW.......... both wins were on the road !!!!

Finally............ what was CCSF ranked when they fell to BC ???

Re: Final Poll (National)?

Shouldn't BC and Mt Sac rank higher than Butte? Snow College, what was their strength of schedule?

Re: Final Poll (National)?

BC certainly should and in fact is ranked ahead of Mt Sac.............. Butte also claims a W over CCSF.... I would think that Bakersfield would be the higher ranked team over Butte....

Butte College lost their 7th game 35-25 to De Anza College and beat CCSF 31- 21...... not the domination that BC handed CCSF..... BC led CCSF 28-0 beginning the 2nd Q

Re: Final Poll (National)?

Butte lost a game on the road and only lost 1 game compared to Bakersfield losing 2 games. Butte played CCSF at CCSF and Bakersfield played CCSF at Bakersfield.

Re: Final Poll (National)?

We have a good case in discussion here, expansion of playoffs teams . . . Butte CC needed to be part of the 2012 playoff format . . . This doubt and debate calls for reform and proper representation of deserving teams from both the north and south . . .

Re: Final Poll (National)?

JC................ BC lost to Ventura on the road in 4 OTs in the regular season and then in the 1st round of the playoffs went on THE ROAD to Ventura 10-0 and destroyed them 48-8. Then the next week BC went on the road to Mt Sac 11-0 who had beaten Bakersfield early in the season for the S. Ca. Championship....... BC trailed at half 21-17...... on the road and came back in the second half and beat Sac 30-21.

When hvae you seen George Rush and CCSF humiliated and start the 2nd q down 28-0 ??? BC gave CCSF 10-1 a whopping..... granted at home..........

BC vs BC would have been a great game............  and I`m betting on BC in that game !!!! Ha ha.....

BC`s run to the Ca. Championship was amazing....... In 3 weeks all they did was beat a 10-0 team and a 11-0 team and then a 10-1 team to claim their title !!!! Even with 2 regular season losses BC finished at 11-2 and deserved to be ranked higher than they were !!!

Reality is that BC beat 3 teams in the playoffs with a combined record of 31-1 !!!!!!

It doesn't make sense why BC didn't end ranked higher at least #2. eek1

Re: Final Poll (National)?

I have short posted 3 or 4 times on another site under a different name.  But, as Lemon says, my writing DNA finally came out when I saw Butte ranked #2, in that site’s final top 30 national poll, above BC at #4.  Most posters agreed (including a Butte fan) and no one tried to defend Butte at #2.  This is basically what NCoast already said, only in a lot more words; biggrin

*Based on the SCFA end of regular season rankings for SoCal and NorCal:

Both Butte and BC played 3 unranked teams.

Number of Top 5 wins? Butte - 2 North. BC - 2 South +1 North.

Losses? Butte 1 - Lost to #5 (8-3) DeAnza (35-25)--BC 2 - Lost to #1 MtSAC (14-34) and #2 Ventura (24-30 4OT)

Games Played? Butte – 11 and BC - 13

Post Season Win(s)?  Butte - 1 Bowl victory (35-17) over #5 in NorCal Fresno (8-3)

Post Season Wins – BC - 3:

SoCal playoff win (48-8) over undefeated #2 in SoCal Ventura (10-0)

SoCal Championship win (30-21) over undefeated #1 in SoCal Mount SAC (11-0)

CA State Championship win (35-14) over once defeated (by Butte) #2 in NorCal CCSF (10-1)

Common Opponents? Butte 31 CCSF 21 (10 points)------- BC 35 CCSF 14 (21 points)

Anybody?  WHY is Butte ranked #2 and BC #4 in the final top 30 poll.  Butte ranked #2 over BC #4 is indefensible based on the facts.
