D1 Bouncebacks coming to RCC!!!

WOW!! RCC is getting too good about moving players to major colleges that even D1 bounce backs are arriving there... excited

The press Enterprise reports:
http://blog.pe.com/on-campus/2013/01/08/football-b lackmon-leaves-oregon-for-rcc/

Devon Blackmon, a former standout football player at Fontana Summit High who went on to play at the University of Oregon, has decided to transfer to Riverside City College next season, RCC coach Tom Craft said.

Blackmon told Oregon coach Chip Kelly in late November that he wanted to transfer. Blackmon played in two of the first three games this season but did not have a catch. He redshirted in 2011.

Initial reports had Blackmon transferring to the University of Washington, but Craft said Blackmon will play receiver for the Tigers next season.

The 6-1, 194-pound Blackmon was one of the top-five receivers in the nation while at Summit, according to recruiting services. He even played quarterback at times and played in the 2011 Under Armour All-American game.

Three other bounce-back players are expected to join the team, Craft said.

Receiver Sam Boyd, formerly of Roosevelt High, will transfer from San Jose State. Offensive lineman Lio Lafaele, out of Corona Centennial, will transfer from Utah. Dion Bass, a corner who also played at Centennial, will transfer from Idaho.

That's a lot of talent coming to Riverside!! excited

RCC'S entire starting defense will be gone after 2012 season. Most recruited to D1. Now they need to fill many holes in offense and defense... So, this are great news for Craft/ I'm sure he's working hard at recruiting... noidea

Re: D1 Bouncebacks coming to RCC!!!

It’s way too early, but it sounds like Coach Craft is already taking care of business with the pre-season recruiting for RCC.  I don’t think any of these coaches like getting skunked.  It somehow kind of puts a flame thrower about an inch from their butts.  Some examples:

In 2010 MS stuffs CCSF’s O-line and humiliates them in the State Championship Game at the Pound.  The next year at the State Championship, CCSF’s O-line problems are fixed and they basically skunk MS (other than a pride saving MS attempt at a second half comeback).

Cerritos gets skunked by Mt SAC in the 2010 SoCal Championship 51-0 redface.  The next year Cerritos was again in the SoCal Championship game and lost to MS by only a debatable last second ref call – but they darn sure gave MS a good scare.

In 2011 BC goes 4-6 – and we fans are calling for Chudy’s head.  In 2012 the Gades were ranked #27 in the SCFA pre-season poll, ended up beating MS for the first time in eons and winning the State Championship. noidea

They would never admit it, but RCC’s win over MS in 2010, breaking their 20 some game winning streak, stung.  It is my guess that Coach Craft didn’t much appreciate being served doughnuts by MS (25-0 flushed) the last game of the 2012 season.  I guarantee you this year Coach Craft is doing his best to take care of whatever problems caused that to happen.

Yeah, RCC's OL was a bit small last year. they lost their entire OL after 2011 season  it looks like some red shirted freshman will step up this year, plus the addition of some big bounce backs will help there. All they need now is a QB.biggrin

"Craft is working hard on recruiting"....but only in his jurisdiction right? wink

I expect that RCC will reload quite nicely. Craft has really turned the program a complete 180.

RCC has been one of the top three programs in SoCal over the past three years, and has never been to the playoffseek1

Maybe RCC sneaks in this season.

Hold your horses there! The first 2 years in Craft's era the team was not eligible, as you know. This past season was crazy. I'm glad we allowed BC to get in the playoffs. They proved to be the best team in post season. rolleyes

It was there defense "laying " over for VC on the last drive of the game that cost RCC the playoffs. I dont know if you remember that or not, but I do.....:)noidea

Actually, it was in 2011, RCC's undefeated season, when the Tigers broke the 26-game win streak of MSAC.

I'm a nitpicker for details. Carry on.
