Southwestern, West Liberty Signing Rumors?

West Liberty is back recruting in Cali again.  Currently rumored to have offered three O'linemen from Southwestern (Fehoko, Burhop and Perez).  Two are rumored to have already signed with the third to decide shortly.

Can anyone confirm these rumored signings?

From a source close to Nick Fehoko the OL for SWC is probably the most wanted linemen in the D-2 football right now.  Every D-2 has an offer for him on the table with big schools like Midwestern state, Delta state, Pittsburg state, Glenville state along with West Liberty.   However, Fehoko is heading out this week to visit Central Missouri and Lindenwood next week.
Fehoko is not eligible for D-1 due to clock issues but clearly the Best in his position.  He is not just a big body but can deliver a blow and destroy any of the DL and linebackers in front of him.

If you don't believe me, google his name and check out his highlight video.  at 6-4 320 the guy is a monster.  better yet this is what I found on the web.

Any indication if Nick's brother Tevita playing for West Liberty will influence his decision?  Side rumor is Tevita may be headed to West Liberty to be a grad assistant in 2013.

IF all three attended West Liberty, it would set up kind of a neat situation were they could move from the starting OL at Southwestern to the starting OL at WLU.  Can anyone on here remember a similar situation were three JC linemen went to the same 4-year team the same year and started for that new team?

Re: Southwestern, West Liberty Signing Rumors?

From what I heard, Nick's top 5 schools are Central Missouri, Glenville, Midwestern state, West Liberty and Lindenwood right now.  However, he is pretty high on Central mizzou but his brother is trying to persuade him to sign with WL.

SWC will continue to send kids out of that program and with a phenomenal season this year, it will continue to bring coaches to the campus looking for talents.  Heard the QB singed with Louisville already.  Two of the OL signed with WL and they are trying to get the DL #92 Raymore.  Several of the receivers and other OL are being pursuit by D-1, D-1aa and D-2 schools.  Great job to Carberry and his staff for turning this program around.

That would be wild if West Liberty could get all three plus Raymore to boot.  That would definently cement the "Southwestern" flavor begun with Tevita and Jose Baez.  It's surprizing how well the Cali players fit in and how readily they are accepted at West Liberty.  Probably has a lot to due with Coach Waialae and Ma'Afala who understand the unique challenges of going from the "Left Coast" to eastern schools.

That would be wild if all 3 OL end up at WL.  I know WL had a few OL that was on the all american list a few years ago.  I believed Tevita finish school and got his degree as well from there.  It is not a bad deal for the kids, not only you will have a chance to continue to play ball.  You can take advantage and get your degree as well for free.

WL recruited from Cali alot and it paid off so far.  I heard the QB is from Long beach poly and only a freshmen.  The strong safety is from LB poly too, a few from in land empire and the pipeline goes on.  Definitely coach Waialae has expanded his resources and you will see more kids from Cali sign with WL yearly.

Coach Dan Hopkins at WLU is a top notch OL coach who has turned several JUCOs into All-Americans.  Also turned an unrecruited HS OL out of Ohio into the Upshaw Award winner (Best DII OL) a couple of years ago.  O'lineman that goes to WLU is going to learn his craft and will get the chance to be noticed.

WLU does tend to take a few Cali JUCOs.  I count 12 on the 2012 roster.  Don't know how true this is but in an interview with Coach Waialae about two years ago, he said that they didn't send coaches on recruting trips to Cali.  Most of the players they picked up were coaches referals or just plain old the player picking up the phone and calling.

The QB is Dylan Lagarde and S Andrew Fariamo are from Los Alamitos HS and are among four Cali players signed out of HS.  Lagarde started several games this year and looked very good on a couple of occasions (one five TD game).  But as happens with true freshmen, his play was uneven.  Still, not bad for a kid who showed up a week late to fall camp.  He'll hopefully benefit from having a complete year in the program.  Fariamo is just a teeth seeking missle!  He made a couple of tackles that just made you go OHHH and cover your eyes.  Talk about violence of action!

16 Cali players on the 100 man roster so the team does have sort of a west coast vibe to it.  Funny when the Florida (we pull in a lot of players from there also) and Cali boys start woofing at each other...throw the WV Hillbillies and New York mafia (four New Yorkers on the roster) into the mix and it can be quite comical!!  Tight nit group though.

Re: Southwestern, West Liberty Signing Rumors?

OG Mike Chance and OG Eric Burhop are already enrolled at West Liberty and both accepted full ride scholarships. West Liberty offered OT Nick Fehoko and OT Jason Perez. Nick Fehoko will not qualify academically and Jason Perez looks to be coming back for the Fall semester to qualify academically for the Division 1 level. West Liberty has a history of signing Southwestern College Players; C Jose Baez and DE Teavita Fehoko signed with West Liberty in 2009.

Re: Southwestern, West Liberty Signing Rumors?

If Perez is qualified for DII, that is a dangerous game he's playing.  He has used up his JC eligibility so he will not be playing.  Many coaches, praticularly the D1 variety have short attention spans when it comes to players.  Unless he was fielding legit D1 offers (actual offers and not just, "You look good son, love to see you in an Alabama uniform."), there is a good chance that he'll find himself at the same point next recruting season but with year old game film.

If it works out good for him but WOW, turning down a scholarship hoping for a "better" scholarship is a dangerous thing to do!

Re: Southwestern, West Liberty Signing Rumors?

With the new NCAA rules regarding Math and English classes Jason has some work to do academically to qualify Division 2 and alot of work to finish to qualify Division 1. One reason Jason is contemplating coming back to Southwestern is to get his academics in order before he transfers. He of course would like to qualify Division 1 and that may also play a part but he has to get eligible before he transfers anywhere. Prairie View A&M (D-1 AA) has offered Jason a Full-Ride scholarship so hopefully he would have that waiting for him if he decides to transfer after the Fall 2013 semester.

Nick Fehoko is qualified for D2 and will be getting his AA after May.  He has choices and West Liberty was never on top of his school list even though his brother played for them.

These are his choices as of right now.

Glenville, Central Missouri  West Texas AM, Midwestern state are his choices of school right now.
