How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 0-5 going into Mich State?
Someone look at our first 5 games and tell me how we don't sweep the early part of our schedule?

We seem to lose a game that we shouldn't on paper. Could it be against the clowns this year?

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
I know we shouldn't lose two in a row to ISU, but I would not be shocked at all by a home loss to the clowns. They have plenty of talent returning and we lost a HUGE chunk of our team. I honestly think we at worse could lose two before MSU....but totally expect 5-0.

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
ISU does return alot of talent this year, and with regard to the other teams, until a KF led Iowa team stops playing down to the level of our competition I will never write anyone off. Hopefully the new staff can turn that trend around.
We can't fire Ferentz for another 4 years because of his buyout. But we can sure as hell get rid of our worthless coordinators and AD!!

If they can't line up, if they can't get open, if they can't stay on blocks, on D if they can't get off blocks, if they can't cover, if they are unemotional. Yes they can lose. That's just a few reasons why they might not be 5-0

At home against Minnesota and ISU I think we are prepared. It's N. Illinois I'm worried about. That isn't a chump program. And, we stupidly gave away a home game and won't even get to watch it on tv.

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
~ Since 2000
vs ISU: 6-6 vs Minny: 8 - 4 (but 3-3 in last 6)
~ Last 3 games vs N. Illinois decided by total of 24 pts. 17-16 16-3 24-14
~ UNI under Mark Farley 99-40. Very good team
~ Central Michigan: See games vs. Western Michigan, Arkansas St, etc.
~ New OC, new DC, new OL coach, new DL coach, replacing 3/5 of OL, replacing 3/4 of DL, no McNutt, AIRBHG....
Pretty easy to see how this team doesn't go into MSU game at 5-0.

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
There was no way Iowa could lose two years in a row last year remember? And we are ISU's BIG game, always. They probably feel that there is no way they should lose to us this year. And of course the last time we played UNI it took TWO blocked field goal attempts in a row to get that win.
The Hawks can't afford to lose focus in ANY game this year or they will be in serious trouble no matter who they play.
************************* Another former player Parker discussed was linebacker Pat Angerer, now a starter for the Indianapolis Colts. When told that Angerer called Parker a genius, Parker responded: “Angerer has been hit in the head too much. Examine his helmet.”

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
Iowa's first 5 games
NIU - W
ISU - toss up, ferentz's record vs.the clowns is sub .500
UNI - should be an easy win, and should NOT need to block 2 FG's at the end of the game to win
Central Michigan - W as they no longer have Dan LeFevor and Iowa no longer has Jake to screw things up
Minn - toss up. If ferentz loses this game, he might as well pack his bags and gtf out of Iowa City. you DO NOT lost to the goophers 3 times in a row
best case scenerio is 5-0 Iowa SHOULD BE 5-0 will they be 5-0, I really doubt it.
---- my 5 favorite apologists responses: 5) you're not a real fan if you don't like Ferentz. 4) this is nothing compared to the "bad ol' days". 3) did you like Ferentz in 2002-2004,2009? 2) we're just little ol' Iowa 1) do you think you could do better?

Except Minnesota, thats a W. If Ferentz loses (shudder) again to Minnesota, this time at home, I might be as mad as I've ever been. They should not lose to this Minnesota team this year.

Since losing two years in a row to awful Gopher teams, I am not assuming ANY wins. Even in 2009, it took TWO blocked FG's to preserve a win over UNI in our home opener.
No such thing as automatic W's.

At this point in time, I feel Iowa could be 3-2 or even 2-3 going into Mich St.
Having said that, I think we need to see what comes out of fall camp.

As I understand it the N. Illinois game won't be on tv. It's an away game against a non-conference opponent. Won't be on the BTN. Nobody else is likely to pick that up. It might be a streaming deal. PostHaste wrote: It's already been announced that there will be no television coverage???

Agree with all this as well. The one thing you have to remember is that Kill is developing MN into a much stronger team, similar to when Mason was there, possibly better.

lets wait till the incoming recruits get here and see the opening day 2 deeps look, before pronouncing whether this season is a success or failure. there is alot more good young talent talent that is eager to play and show what they can do

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
Poster above makes a great point. Haven't seen a year when incoming freshman ,RS Freshamn, and sophmores have made up such a large portion of the two deeps.
A lot is also expected of Garmon (we shall see how that pans out) and you also have to factor in injuries. If the team can stay healthly and gel together I see no reason why we can't win 9 games (and have a chance for 10 with a bowl win). 6-6 would also not suprise me with this young of a team and especially is we have some key injuries on the O-line/D-line. Razor thin line this year...
Go Hawks!

RE: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich Sta
not a chuggar , but i will say this the Oline is not razor thin, all the projected starters on the OLine have started. MacMillan is back and has started, the backups are not 4-5 year developement players, the backups are 4* LT Donnal a 3rd year soph 4* LG RSFR Walsh a 2nd year RSFR JUCO Center Simmons or 4th year Boffelli 4* RG RSFR Blythe potential 4* FR Ward at RT not to bad of a solid 2 deep the DL is where they are young but not so young WDE 5th year SR Gaglione 6'4 264 lbs backing him up is 2nd year FR Spears 6'2 255 lb SDE 2nd year Fr McMinn 6'7 245 lbs, with 3rd year SO Hardy 6'5 270 lbs DT 5th year SR Bigach 6'3 282 lbs, with 3rd year SO LTP 6'3 270 lbs DT 2nd year FR 4* Cooper 6'2 280 lbs, with 2nd year FR Tsopansides 6'2 240 lbs with players like 4th year JR Alvis who was sidelined by injury was the solid WDE, 3rd year DT SO Davis 6'5 310 lbs who was withheld from practice while he recovered from minor surgery in the wings and that does not include incoming 4* FR DT Johnson 6'4 300 lbs or 4* SDE Ekakitie 6'3 285 lbs the Dline will be deep and talented something that has not happened at Iowa in a long time. the success or failure will come from how fast the players gel as a unit, Iowa finnally has the 4-5 year developement players at the top withe 1-2 year guys to step in case of injury on both the OL and the DL. as for RB for some reason i am not worried as this will be the 4th year where we have gone into the season unsettled there QB we have a 5th year player in JVB WR we have a 5th year player in Davis, and if you look at his drops it comes out to 7 drops on the season for that horrible 13.5%, that's 1 drop every other game, what he does bring is his 50 catches on the season for a 14.3 ypc, McNutt as a JR had 52 catches, that a whopping 2 whole catches more and he was the #2 option at WR KMM as a RS FR had 30 reception at 10.8 ypc and you have to go a long way back to find a Iowa WR as the 3rd option with more TE is solid 4* CJF will be a 4th year jr 5th year SR Derby is the backup 2nd year SO 4* Hamilton is the 3rd option at TE
for the 1st time in the history of the KF ERA, he will have more talent at each position, BUT young Talent, and a deeper bench of quality talent this upcoming recruiting class can go a long way in making this Iowa team the type of team to sustain 10 + winning season on a regular basis, but if he loads up on a bunch or 0-2* 4-5 year developemental players forget it as we will a few more 7-5 or 8-5 seasons, so heres hoping to just getting 1-2 4-5 year developement players, 3-4 4* players and 9-10 3* players will make me happy as the 3* take about 2-3 maybe 4 years to develope, and its more often closer to the 2-3

No big deal. No, I'm thinking of 2006. Iowa started out 4-0 and was seriously overhyped. Gameday was in Iowa City for the Ohio State game. We got crushed. Then we went on to win two games for the rest of the season and finished 6-7. Fat cats.

if Iowa starts 5-0 i think Iowa just might win with a week off to prepare for MSU, getting a bye gives the team to heal the bumps and bruises and prepare for the run thru the BT, and i doubt they lose to Indiana, Purdue or NW, Iowa might just win 10 games before the bowl game

a loss might serve them well. They could be a crappy 5-0 team going into sparty...a loss to ISU would certainly create an edge.

or a 5-0 start just might give the confidence they need to make a run thru the conference, nothing like winning to boost a group of young players going forward

Yes I know, but my point is there's a small difference between 4-0 and 5-0, mostly having to do with confidence and momentum. If we were 5-0 in 2006, that would've meant we beat Ohio State. Then that way after we collapsed, the worst we could've done was 7-6. The other thing is, you're using selective memory of a specific time where we got off to a good start and tanked. If you're worried that we'll still start 5-0 and then go 1-7 down the stretch, then I can only pray for what your game days are going to be like this coming season. But if it didn't bother you...then you're not really worried about it, hence there was no reason to post your feeling of doubt that doesn't really exist because it doesn't bother you...................hypothetically speaking of course.

If they are 5-0 to start the seaon, then finishing with at least 10 wins is mandatory.

Re: How are the HAWKEYES NOT going to be 5-0 going into Mich
It is going to be an interesting season. We certainly could start 5-0 and maybe should, but we are a young team with inexperience at some key positions. I believe we will go 8-4, 9-3 and play in the Gator Bowl. I think we lose to MSU and Michigan, and lose 1 of the 1st 5. Then perhaps losing to PSU or Nebraska at home but not both. If we can stay relatively healthy, this will end up a pretty good year. Key injuries and the 5-7, 6-6 crowd is going to be correct.

Which ones would you consider "key" besides QB, which is the obvious one. Just curious. I haven't put much thought into what player we could not afford to lose. I'm tempted to say "all of them" but that may not be the case.
