6 True Frosh that could get on 2 Deep??

6 True Frosh that could get on 2 Deep??

Corner- Omar Truitt, Marcel Joly or Jalen Embry could emerge for the battle of the 2 Deep list.  Both guys are burners and very good in coverage.  Both would be a little suspect via the big ten running games.  These three could emerge from a battle of 7 or 8 young corners on the 2 deeps come August.

WR - Jay Scheel - New position and lots of young guns already at the WR position might make it difficult for him to see significant playing time.  He's been slowed with an injury which might also lead to Iowa redshirting him. Not having him around this summer may also hurt his chances in 2014.

Safety - Miles Taylor or Brandon Snyder. Depth at Safety is a grave concern.  Both these two guys are very close to ready physically.  I saw these two together last week.  Miles appears to be about 5'10" and 185ish and Snyder appeared to be a lot bigger. I'd say 6'1" 200-210.  Is Both of these guys have the football smarts that could find them in the thick of key reserve roles and special team guys in 2014.

I would throw in Lucas LeGrand and Jameer Outsey as well. We may be a bit young and inexperienced at backup OT and LeGrand may get a shot. Jameer Outsey seems to have the size and speed to get some playing time. I would love to see him stay at OLB, but it sounds like he may end up at DE where we could use some athleticism.

Mick Ellis is in the 2-deeps by default and could end up starting.

I know we are thin in the o-line but the o-lineman that have actually played as true frosh is very short...Bulaga,and maybe Mike Jones?

If  LeGrand actually breaks thru into the two deep, either we are in trouble, or he is a surprise superstar to be.

I agree with Outsey....he might have an outside (no pun) chance.

Markel Smith was the obvious candidate, as rbs are that position they can play immediately.

Most likely outcome is zero true freshmen on the two-deep.

Pretty sure Dace Richardson played as a true freshmen.

WR - Jay Scheel I do see the hype for him. I would say it will be a couple of years b/4 he hits the field.

I'd actually be shocked if there weren't some true Frosh on the 2-deeps or major contributors in some manner at the very least, there usually are. Our last few classes though marginally ranked, have come in jacked and ready to play and been quite athletic at that.

Omar Truitt - He just looks to have "it." Seriously physical, lock-down type of CB that could very well be another story like King.

I have been wrong before, but from his films, he has that aggressive temperment and speed to be the real deal. If he hits as hard as I think he does, perhaps Safety is in his future...

Perhaps a few of these guys can make a name on special teams and be ready to see some snaps later in the year.  I would think linebackers and defensive backs have a shot especially with good speed.

Now that our roster depth has been built back up, it will be more difficult for true freshmen to break into the Two Deeps. That is a good thing because, if they do get PT, it will because they are ready and not just due to battlefield promotions.

I would like to see Outsey or Hesse (both 6'3) fill the role that Spearman played on the Hy-bred last year

Injuries could place an untested young guy in there as well. In any case, I'm thinking we might see a DB in the two deeps. Maybe at safety?

Re: 6 True Frosh that could get on 2 Deep??

6 true frosh might play, but I doubt 6 of them are on the 2-deep. Best possibilities are defensive back and linebacker, especially if injuries occur in those spots.

One can just never tell with these things. Not anyone predicting last year at this time that Desmond King would be a true frosh who would play.
