Dallas Clark...he gone

Former Hawkeye had 53 NFL touchdown catches

Dallas Clark, who was as instrumental as perhaps any player in the Iowa’s Big Ten football championship of 2002, is retiring as an NFL player.

Clark played 11 years in the NFL, the first nine with the Indianapolis Colts. He spent a season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was with the Baltimore Ravens last season.

His career totals as a pro were 505 catches for 5,665 yards and 53 touchdowns. He was a member of the Colts’ 2006 Super Bowl-championship team, and had four receptions in the Super Bowl win over Chicago.

He started 118 NFL games. The Colts were 84-31 with Clark in their starting lineup.

Clark was a first-round draft pick by Indianapolis in 2003. In 2002, he had 43 catches for 742 yards and four TDs at Iowa. His 7-yard touchdown catch against Purdue proved to be the game-winner in the Hawkeyes’ 31-28 come-from-behind victory over the Boilermakers that season. He had a 95-yard touchdown reception earlier that game.

Clark will sign a contract with Indianapolis on Wednesday and immediately retire a Colt.

“It’s an honor I can’t even explain,” said Clark in this Colts.com story. “It’s amazing just the love and support I have for the Colts and fans, but to see it come back toward me (is humbling).

“For the Irsay family and Colts family to do this is an honor, something I can’t thank anyone for enough. It’s so special I can’t even express how awesome it is.”

One of the great Hawkeyes of all time. I would like to see Clark come in as a TE coach for the Hawks sometime in the future.

That would be pretty awesome.  What prospective TE recruit wouldn't want to be coached by Dallas Clark?

Funny.....I was think'in the same thing, would luv to see him coach at Iowa , a great example of how to go from a walk-on at D-1 to NFL All-Pro!!

Ferentz should hire him on the Hawkeye Staff to help with recruiting.
True Hawk that bleeds black and gold.
What a career he had with Iowa and in the NFL.
Hope he's voted into the Hall of Fame someday.

I doubt Dallas needs the money enough to sign up for a full time gig with the Hawkeye's to beat the streets trying to get high school kids to come to Iowa City.   Chances are he can do better and lead a better life style in the corporate world, speaking, or just enjoying life.  I think he'll sing  praises of the Hawkeye life in whatever he does and probably make it to some camps and I club events.  I would guess he winds up in a public relations role of some sort with the Colts.

Dallas and his father-in-law own a winery that they started in 2008. I very seriously doubt he has anything to do with the Colts or the Hawks for a paycheck. He has a young family and is not going to be away from them.  For anyone interested go to Train Wreck Winery.

You could point to a few different guys as the foundation that KFz rebuilt IOWA football upon.  Sanders, Gallery, etc... but I think Clark is as good an example as any.

Great guy, Great Hawkeye

Re: Dallas Clark...he gone

I talked to Dallas at last year's Zach Johnson's Golf event at Elmcrest and I asked him if he was officially retired. He smiled and said no, I'm actually un-employed and looking for a team to hire me. So glad everything has worked out for him. On a side note, I have never been an autograph seeker, but I did get Dallas Clark's and Kurt Warner's. I gave them to my grand-son for safe keeping.
