Bowl Projections/Predictions

Congrats Hawks earning a bowl birth!

Now, to determine where they'll be playing. At this stage, I see Iowa projected as the 7th seed headed to Dallas in the 'Heart of Dallas Bowl', 6th seed headed to Houston in the 'Texas Bowl' or 5th seed headed to Jacksonville in the 'Gator Bowl'.

Remaining schedule:

Nebraska plays Michigan, Michigan St, Penn St and Iowa
Minnesota plays Wisconsin and Michigan St
Michigan plays Nebraska, Northwestern, Iowa and Ohio State
Iowa plays Michigan and Nebraska

I am projecting Iowa will leap frog Michigan and find themselves playing in Houston.

I'd prefer the Gator Bowl, but a bowl game in Texas wouldn't be bad all. A bowl in either state would help a lot with recruiting. At least I think so. Texas and Florida are supposed to have great high school athlete's, right?

And sometimes they gain 20 or 30 pounds in a month. Definitely makes them better.

Re: Bowl Projections/Predictions

BCS: Ohio State (13-0)
BCS: Michigan State (11-2)/Wisconsin (10-2)
Capital One: Michigan State (11-2)/Wisconsin (10-2)
Outback: Nebraska (9-3)
Gator: Iowa (7-5)
Insight: Minnesota (8-4)
Houston: Michigan (7-5)

If the Big 10 doesn't get two in the BCS, then bump everyone down a spot and add the Heart of Dallas Bowl.  If Iowa beats both Nebraska and Michigan then it is Outback Bowl or Gator Bowl for the Hawks (depending on how Big 10 in the BCS).  If Iowa loses both games, then it is Houston Bowl or Dallas Bowl.

the staff is putting more of a emphasis on TX. but the thing I like is that White is recruiting Virginia hard for the 2015 class, the Gator Bowl or either one of the TX Bowls would be great,

the Heart of TX Bowl is on the 1st of January and in Dallas the middle of GD and Kennedy's recruiting grounds

Nebraska has these for their last 3 games

vs MSU
@ PSU
vs Iowa
I don't expect 2 BT teams to get BCS bids. who knows Michigan may end up in the Detroit bowl,, Hoke's seat is getting hotter by the game.

I am thinking and hoping for the Texas bowl. Friday evening game against a comparable big 12 opponent. Gator bowl would be fine but well get a tougher opponent. For the record the insight gets to pick in front of the gator bowl this year.

That outcome is only possible if Indiana, Northwestern, or Illinois make a bowl game (odds are against any of the three making it it), the Big 10 only gets one in the BCS, and Michigan gets picked last.

Indiana has to win two of @Wisconsin, @Ohio State, and Purdue.
Illinois has to win out against Ohio State, @Purdue, and Northwestern.
Northwestern has to win two of Michigan, Michigan State, and @Illinois.

I think Northwestern has a realistic chance to beat Michigan at home next week then win their last game at Illinois to get to 6-6.

Indiana & Illinois -- not gonna happen.

Re: Bowl Projections/Predictions

I,m very much thinking/hoping that we get the 4th slot in the big ten pecking order. I think we end up tying with Minny for 2nd in the legends but because of our head to head, tougher schedule and better finish 3-1 in Nov. we get to that spot. Again this is if we win our last 2 games.
But I believe we beat Michigan at home as they look like a tired and beat up team emotionally and their lines on both sides of the ball look as though we can control them. Also I think our Lb's take care of Funchess which makes it harder for Gardner to get a good offensive flow. Let,s hope Fitz,s bunch adds to their misery next weekend and keeps beating them up.
I also think Nebby is going to get physically beat up next week with a Sparty bunch coming off of a bye, with the injuries they have on O especially the line, they are going to have to throw and with Bell nursing as well, Onunwa is the only threat they have. Plus they have to travel to PSU yet, who isn,t very good but it,s a travel game and will be physical too.
Let,s use this bye week to get healthy and watch other teams beat the snot out of each other and finish the season with a record of 8-4 which I believe is completely doable and if the BIG gets two in the BCS gives us a trip to the Land of the Outback. That would be a great year with it being totally possible that our losses will have come to 2 undefeated teams, the Legends champ and a two loss Bucky team with a possible combined record of something like 45 - 4.

Re: Bowl Projections/Predictions

Congrats to Iowa for becoming bowl eligible.  Wish we at Illinois could turn the corner.  I don't think anyone expected you guys to get over 5 wins tops and your team did.  Heck you could possibly go 8-4 which if that happens (and Minny folds) then Ferentz should get Big10 coach of year.  We get to get hammered by OSU next week then I think we'll break the streak and beat PU.  Look forward to playing you guys again next year but in meantime good luck whereever you play (and please stop recruiting our state - I'm sick each time I see Walsh, Fied, Trinca, Johnson, Ward, etc)

If Iowa, Michigan, Nebby, and PSU all finish with 7 wins; would Iowa be left out of a bowl?

No. The Big Ten has 8 bowl contracts:
Rose
Captal One
Outback
Buffalo Wild Wings
Gator
Texas
Heart of Dallas
Little Caesar's

There are currently 7 bowl eligible Big Ten teams (Penn State is still under a bowl ban). There is a slight chance that Nothwestern gets to 6-6 and makes it eight teams, but that's it. So there would be a bowl for every eligible team. Realistically, the lowest Iowa can get is the Heart of Dallas bowl and the highest is the Gator Bowl.

predictions based on how Iowa finishes

Iowa finishes 8-4.   Outback Bowl
Iowa finishes 7-5.   Gator Bowl
Iowa finishes 6-6.   Heart of Dallas Bowl

According to certain ISU fans you should be able to fill an entire roster with these guys and win right away...errr wait they already do.

I'll be attending the Bahamas basketball tournament and what a weekend it would be to see iowa beat NE in football and KU in hoops!

Living in Tampa, I then most likely get to see the Hawks in the outback bowl!  That would rock!!

I will take any bowl game at this point.  '07 and '12 bowl seasons were much less enjoyable with no Iowa game.  Oh yeah, so was '98-'00, '92-'94, thats as far back as I been old enough to remember Iowa non- bowl years.  Fricking '92 Minny game, we had a Copper Bowl berth ready to go!

Lots of 'ifs' but if Iowa can beat Micha and Nebby and Minny loses to Wisky and Sparty, Iowa would finish 2nd in the Legends and 4th in the B1G.

That is a lot of "if's", but I think Minny gets killed in their last 2 games. Wisky and Sparty are both very good teams. I would be reasonably happy if Iowa split their final 2.

If what you are suggesting comes to fruition, Iowa is going to be matched against a top 20 team and playing in a 2014 bowl. Outside of the 10 BCS teams that will include aywhere from 1-3 Big Ten teams, there are 4 New Years day bowl games with Big Ten contracts.

More "if's." Wisky should win out. Sparty should as well and this would set up a Big Ten title game with O$U. If Sparty beats O$U in the title game, the Big Ten should have 3 teams ranked in the top 14 or so.

Iowa beats Nebby and could find themselves going to Tempe for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl playing OK or TX Saturday 12/28. I'd prefer the Gator Bowl Jan 1 myself. At this point, it looks like either Houston, J-Ville or Tempe.

Don't care if it is cold. Just want to see the Hawks play somewhere close by. Raymond James is less than an hour away. J-ville is about 4 hours. Beat Nebby baby!

How do you go from a BCS game last year, to undefeated the next year to not getting in the BCS game? Pretty ghey.

According to Rob Howe...

It's speculative, but Iowa would be OK with Michigan going to Jacksonville and it to the Texas Bowl. The Hawkeyes recruit very little in Florida while the Lone Star State is a key area for them. On top of that, the Houston event airs on ESPN the night of Dec. 27 with no competition from other postseason contests.
