The Big Ten team off to the hottest start for the 2014 class could be the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Coming off a disappointing 2012 season, coach Kirk Ferentz landed his second commitment from a ESPN Watch List prospect in the last eight days.

Great news Dusty! It will be interesting if we get any other very early commitments from this weekends' visits. I think there were at least 2 other dual-threat QB's in town in Thorson and McKinny, but who knows where Scheel will end up playing anyway.

This is HUGE, Scheel will probably be a 4 star, 2 4 star prospects right off the bat love it, lets find a QB next yaer and make a bowl game then we are on the upswing again!

Scheel's coach says that Iowa told him he will play QB.

I like it. He is listed as a WR, ATH, DB and QB....depends on where you look. Hopefully his coach gets him focused on playing one position this next year if QB is the position he will play at Iowa.

Yeah but... probably Ferentz will find a way...
Nah! Forget it! This is good news and a nice ray of light. Really thinking Davis could turn out to be quite a change at OC, provided he has the right tools. Looks like he's getting some!
Go Hawks!

They told AJ Derby he could play QB as well. I just pray they have a decent season so they can keep these early recruits.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this coaching staff will find a way to screw this up. He will end up transferring in under two years.

How are you getting 4 stars for this kid?

He kind of looks like Russell Wilson, lets hope he plays like him.

Derby never played bc he was a horrible passing qb. look at his stats from this year. He completed less than 50% of his passes at a JC. i wonder how he would have done in the big ten. that's why he was asked to change positions not bc ferentz and his staff forgot how to develop recruits.

Really, have you looked at JV stats for the year? 7 TD's on the season. Pretty impressive. Lets see how he does at Arkansas before we write him off.

I hate to reign on the parade but we all know the checkered history of this staff in keeping these great players on campus, esspecially skill position players. Please excuse me if I find it hard to get too enthused yet.

Negativity Sucks...banghead

I know things did suck (i hated the 2 yard pass when we needed three) this year and next year things will not be much better but I will be an optimist.  We will win more games!

Be happy that we GOT the 2 kids from Iowa to commit early and they can help recruit other players out of state.
We never had a shot at Lazard.

Everyone complained about lack of turnover in the coaching staff, guess what, it's turning(ed) over.  We are getting younger and a more aggressive staff.  Hopefully this will equate to winning and better recruiting.

Go Hawks.

Get over AJ. He is not and was not a D1 QB, This may explain his 45% completion rate in JC and NO known D1 scholarship offers.

Hardly.  You thought a change would occur with Davis because you thought KOK was the problem.  You even showed support for Davis when his offense was sluggish early in the season.

Is this the part where you claim KOK wasn't fired and he was actually good at his job?  You gave KOK 13 years but think Davis should be thrown overboard after just one year?  Just one year to fix the disastrous mess left behind by KOK?

That is just dumb.

I think Brian Ferentz is bringing a spark back to the program and a fire under his father's ASS.  Recruiting has been lazy these past few and theres been a lot of low contentment with certain people.   I know a recruiting expert who has sent several player bio's and vids to Iowa and has never even received a thanky you or anything.  Every other school he's sent video to has replied except Iowa.  Eric Johnson what are you doing?

Iowa sucked this year, and our coaches appeared to be outcoached often. This doesn't mean they can't coach, or that we won't experience future success. We have been to the BCS multiple times under KF, and if anything his track record proves we fluctuate between lows and highs.

I hate to be that guy, but I think we will have success on this football team much sooner than most of you anticipate.

Jets & Hawkeyes. I must enjoy torturing myself. >.<

I'm ok being a kool-aid drinker, because this team has been anything and everything except for what we expect. So no expectations leads me to believe we have the potential to bounce back and surprise the B1G.

What you continue to fail to realize is that it doesn't matter who the OC is for Iowa.  They're going to do the same things.  It was certainly amusing the way you talked and talked about how bad KOK was, only to find that the new boss runs the offense in the same conservative way as the old boss.

When was the last time KOK called a flea-flicker for a long bomb and a TD?  Davis showed quite a bit of difference and when he did it made a difference.  There is no question KOK could not run a pro-style Offense and fielded squads that were simply unable to produce and not ready to take the field.

Davis may or may not be a better solution.  But that doesn't change the fact that KOK was terrible.
