Who is this D Long at Iowa Western? Are we looking at him too?

He was recruited by Erik Campbell not Greg Davis. He does have 4.4 speed. Looks like a pretty good pickup.

A JUCO? Don't tell me KF has sunk to the level of Snyder!

True but when I saw his video I saw plays that reminded me of last season and he led the nation in YPC at 30, so he will be use to catching at the line of scrimmage and using his quickness to get away from defenders. He's been timed at a 4.39 40 so he has enough speed to make a difference next season, we just have to hope they don't redshirt him. C.O.L. (CRY OUT LOUD)

If we have a D1 calibre QB under center... we may just have a chance to find out. This is the main reason why I am not so quick to judge Davis just yet.

Re: Oh yes!! Greg Davis just got a quick and fast juco wr to
Davis brought in an offense that our starting QB and apparently our backups could not execute. I think the jury is still out on whether a fast JUCO receiver is going to put us in the right orbit.
Let's see what Rudock can do!

The kid looks good, but how are his hands? would be really nice to have a reciever that doesnt drop alot of balls and runs good routes to go along with that speed...

Re: Oh yes!! Greg Davis just got a quick and fast juco wr to
From the highlight reel, he looks to be on the small-size side of things for a WR, and we already have a couple of kinda small WRs on the roster (KMM, Cotton).
I did like the bubble screen that he ran on that highlight reel. If he can work out of the slot and be our misdirection/screen guy, then that will be huge for us./jw

I think the jury is still out on whether a fast JUCO receiver is going to put us in the right orbit. Yes BUT Davis has proven he knows what kind of players he needs to run his offense well! Jordan Shipley and Quan Cosby were both listed at almost the same size as Powell but were only listed at 4.4 40. Our new WR has been timed at 4.39, barely faster but still faster. I have 2 points, one is Davis knows what to do with guys this size and speed. The 2nd point is this, I lived in Texas over 30 years and understand recruiting pretty well and I think you can take guys that produce big time in smaller states and put them in Texas and watch their stars grow. Not only did Damon Powell produce big but he led the nation at 30 yards per catch. When I compare film, his stands out among most and that makes me wonder if he was over looked playing in a Utah juco. Either way it really doesn't matter but I am happy we got him.

Yea but I would rather be the toe nail in the front! lol In truth I had a hard time writting about the speed difference because it's so small but I thought it only fair since we don't know if they had run a 4.49 or a 4.40. There is a good difference between a 4.39 and a 4.49.

Supposedly Garmon has that kind of speed too. I just didn't see a burst from him this year that looked anything like 4.4.

Of course none of this matters unless they play. If these speedsters are coming in from the JUCO ranks they need to be playing. Not rotting on the bench like so many other talented players at Iowa have.

I have seen it go both ways, some guys practice slow and bad, but show up in games and some test great but feel uncomfortable on the field, "a busy mind makes a slow body." This guy's speed looks like it shows up in both places, testing and games.

Deion was a 4.295 guy...way faster than anyone! In the combine he was for sure. Deion Sanders has the closest thing of the three as a verifiable 40 yard dash time. Sanders ran a 4.21 forty yard dash at the 1989 NFL combine and kept right on going through the finish line into the first round of that year’s NFL draft. Like Green and Jackson, anyone who watched Sanders play would have little trouble believing that Sanders pulled off this feat. Sanders recorded a 10.21 100 meter mark while at Florida St.http://www.gridironstuds.com/b...yard-dash-ever/

RE: Oh yes!! Greg Davis just got a quick and fast juco wr to com
I think "game speed" is a comfort thing to. If the player is unsure of the play he maybe thinking too much and not be at full speed. Just my opinion. But I do think I heard or read somewhere where the more comfortable a player is the easier and more decisive they play. I hope we see a major improvement from the Hawks next year when they take the field. I actually think this Bowl season off is going to do some of these players some good plus maybe they will come back hungry.

And if this posting didn't resonate with all those jazzed about this prospect, you're not fully grasping KF's failures as a coach and his mismanagement of our football team. For me, I won't get jazzed up about anything while KF is trending downward as a terrible coach. You can almost predict the setbacks on the horizon from season to season because he refuses to change his methods and philosophies, EVEN after epic fails! I get excited about new prospects and players when they actually prove themselves on the field. We will need players who are DOMINANT and posses excellent leadership skills to compensate for all the setbacks KF brings to the table.
