someone who wants to score a TON of points and runs an offense that's cutting edge, not 15 years behind the times.

my 5 favorite apologists responses:
5) you're not a real fan if you don't like Ferentz.
4) this is nothing compared to the "bad ol' days".
3) did you like Ferentz in 2002-2004,2009?
2) we're just little ol' Iowa
1) do you think you could do better?

That would be the best Christmas ever, I'm sure there are some young, aggressive, progressive coaches out there that can recruit and play 2012 football.

Re: If Ferentz were to retire

Since it will be years before Ferentz retires, I really don't see any of these coaches coming to Iowa. If Kirk can turn  this around the 1st person on that list would be Brian Ferentz. If he can't turn it around the only way Hawk fans would be happy is if they got a big name coach like Stoops, which would be hard to get him to leave OU. The second would be a big name coordinator which means Iowa would probably be in competition with other big name schools or the NFL. Does Iowa have the clout to get their guy? The way Barta has done things it would probably be someone from a smaller conference who he can pay less and no one has heard much about.

"A football coach?"

"A mean ole bastard who wants to win. I'm tired of nice guys"

"someone who wants to score a TON of points and runs an offense that's cutting edge, not 15 years behind the times"

"someone who brings "sexy" to the program."

"Anyone with a pair of balls... unlike KF"

One man fits all of these prerequisites: Bobby Petrino!!! He's a FB coach. He's not nice (see Atlanta Falcons tenure). He's likes to score on the field (and off the field). He can bring "sexy" (assistants) to the progrom. And I'm sure he's got plenty of balls (ask his assistants)

He will eventually end up back in the South.

Re: If Ferentz were to retire

Cam Cameron.  He would be a perfect fit for the predictable, boring style of offense we currently have at Iowa.  In fact if Ferentz would leave, I would not be surprised if Barta gives Cam a call and gives him the job.  Wouldn't surprise me, nothing does at Iowa anymore.

RE: If Ferentz were to retire

A big time recruiter with a high scoreing offense but most of all they have to have the ability to instill a "never say die" character year round into this team. Iowa will benefit greatly from the coaching history here. The fact that they give coaches alot of time will atract and comfort coaches and their families. The money will also be a HUGE attraction, of course it will be less than KF makes now but it should still be more than enough to turn some good coaching heads.

             Thanks Floaty

Pat Fitzgerald. Hands down. That guy has done the unthinkable. He's made NW a regular formitable contender. Brings running QBs that are threats on a consistant basis.

Also love his fire.

I like coach Fitz too and I admire what he has done with his program in recent years. He has a winning attitude, he is savvy, and appears to be innovative. He is also willing to go the extra distance to build decent talent into his team. While it doesn't take a genius coach to breakdown the Ferentz game plan, he is one of the few in the BIG who has fully taken advantage of Iowa's one page offensive playbook.

Re: If Ferentz were to retire

Did you forget the trainwreck that was his tenure at Indiana and then his debacle with the Fins? His career record as a head coach:19-52.  No thanks.

Some guys are good coordinators but not good head coaches.

I was being sarcastic.  I know he had an awful head coaching record.  But with the awesome AD we have today, he might pull a stunt like that.

Oh, good. After reading the Wisconsin and Tennessee boards as their fans were speculating, it was hard to tell.

Iowa would be a step down from NW at this  point.

I would like to see a successful OC from the NFL brought in to replace KF. I mean someone who really is a "sexy" in his play calling and would be a top notch recruiter.
Let's see what Rudock can do!

Re: If Ferentz were to retire

Of course we all realize this is just rank fantasization here, right? But hey, it's Christmas time, so what-the-hey.
This would be an ideal time to bring in someone new as the program is not in the skids...yet. It would be a great opportunity for someone skilled to come in and have success right away. This team needs a major tune-up at this point and not a complete re-build.
Sadly, we'll have the captain right where he is for at least two more seasons. Though I now believe the seat could get hotter next year.

RE: If Ferentz were to retire

We run the same offense as Alabama,LSU,Stanford,Southern Cal,Notre Dame. Where do all of you people come off with the thought thst we need a fancy offense. Why don't you concentrate on the quality of recruit this coaching staff is able to bring in. I think they have been doing a better job the last couple of years, but if you think we can hire a coach that can bring in the kind of talent to be in the top twenty every year you better forget it.

Re: If Ferentz were to retire

In theory it's the same offense, but in practice it is a radically impoverished version of what those schools do. Simply compare and contrast what you see on the field between those two teams and then rethink your stance that our offense is (in terms of its gameday execution, in terms of complexity) anything close to what those programs are doing. There is quite sadly - just no comparing them.
