2013 Iowa football schedule
Before we turn our full attention to basketball and wrestling, here's the 2013 Iowa football schedule (I'm a bit concerned about going 0-8 in the BIG next year): | 2013 | | August | | 31 | Northern Illinois | | September | | 7 | Missouri State | | 14 | at Iowa State (Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series) | | 21 | Western Michigan | | 28 | at Minnesota | | October | | 5 | Michigan State (HC) | | 12 | Bye | | 19 | at Ohio State | | 26 | Northwestern | | November | | 2 | Wisconsin | | 9 | at Purdue | | 16 | Bye | | 23 | Michigan (FA, S) | | 29/30 | at Nebraska (Hy-Vee Heroes Game) |

No more than 7 wins, more likely 4 or 5.

I don't see a winnable game there... we sure can't beat directional schools let alone state schools...

Re: 2013 Iowa football schedule
I'll say that I think the defense will improve next year. This year was a learning year for several of our d-linemen. Cooper, Alvis, and Trinca Pasat have looked good in spurts. Also, I'm hoping the linebackers improve some next year.
Offense is the wildcard. They have to improve as you can't be much worse than they were this year but time will tell.

forgedpistons wrote: How do we not start 5-0? To answer your question - Game 1 - Northern Illinois - they are going to be PISSED that their only loss on the season was to a hapless Iowa team. They will be out for revenge. Game 2 - Missouri State - every FBS school needs a cupcake FCS team on the schedule, just ask Gene at Auburn without them the Tigers are winless this season. Game 3 - Iowa State - it's ISU what else needs to be said. Unfortunately they will probably beat Iowa game as it's just another game in KF's eyes. Paul Rhodes will definitely out coach him again. Game 4 - Western Michigan - Hawkeye fans probably cringed when they saw them on the schedule. Last time they were in Kinnick they won & Iowa is 0-2 in last 2 games vs. directional schools from Michigan. Game 5 - Minnesota - the Golden Goobers have won two straight vs. the Hawkeyes at home. Should never have let them out of the dome. Hey at least October 12th and November 16th Iowa will NOT lose! There's something positive to come out of next season. Look for another 4 win or less season.

A great season....6 and 6; looks like a 3 and 9 without some major coaching changes.
Let's see what Rudock can do!

How can we go 3-9 with the wunderkind Rudock at the helm? I thought he was Marino, Montana, and Elway all rolled into one?

Re: 2013 Iowa football schedule
Chill Mrs. Vandenberg. No one ever said he was the second coming. Just that it sure would have been nice to let him get some snaps while JVB was struggling at times during the year. See what Ruddock could do, let JVB settle down. Maybe get some momentum with a change, get Ruddock some game experience, etc.
I don't remember anyone, all season, saying he was the fix to the numerous problems the Hawkeyes had. Just that it wouldn't hurt to get him some time when JVB was really struggling.

Agreed. I never expected another QB to come in and win x amount more games. But it sure would have been nice to see another QB get some meaningful reps. Especially since they wont get them during the Bowl practices.

Unless there is an infusion of talent we'll be 6-6 at best. So, 5-7 seems about right.

Re: 2013 Iowa football schedule
I agree, no ever said Ruock was the second coming. However, I take comfort in knowing Ferentz will anoint him the starting QB and he will not to be replaced until he graduates or is hurt. --------------------------------------------- --- STLHawk wrote:

Re: 2013 Iowa football schedule
I never had any expectations of Jake at all. Just wanted to see that KF gave a $hit about next year and getting his new starter some game experience. Guess what? He doesn't!!! Why because he can do whatever he wants for the next 7 years! The tail wags the dog!

He'll opt to play less talented upperclassmen. Which actually hinders recruiting efforts because a nice selling point for attracting young talent is early playing time. Since they know they wont get it, they wont come here.

I can hear it now: "Well he's a quality young man, but he doesn't have any gametime experience, so there's going to be some growing pains." If he played him, that excuse would go out the window.

RE: 2013 Iowa football schedule
If I had to pick right now I would pick five and seven. If we would get a new wide receivers coach and a new defensive coordinator I would see much better than that. What we have here is were suffering from not having a healthy Norm Parker as a defensive Cordinator. Kirk coached teams cannot win without a dominating defense. The biggest mistake made was when we did not hire the defensive Cordinator from outside the program last year. Of course Kirk will fail to make the changes so five and seven will be about it. Hope Kirk moves to the nfl. He is not made for today's college game. Kirk lately has a tendency to get things backwards we should've promoted from within on the offense side and brought in a new defensive coordinator but no Kirk does the opposite of that.
Thank you Gary Barta and Sally mason you ate my football team and ruined Kirk. " lifetime contract security equals lowered incentive in even the best of humans."

Just remember that 2008 followed 2007. Could anyone really see that coming after the disastrous 2007 season?

Re: 2013 Iowa football schedule
We will be lucky to get 5 wins. Our program is now at the bottom of the Big 10. What used to be absolute wins ... is no more. Yes, we have fallen that far. We could easily lose all of our big 10 games. No joke. Now ... we are a joke.

RE: 2013 Iowa football schedule
we will have a runningback rush for 200 yards in everygame and some how manage to lose... that is still troubling the last 2 times we've had a player run for over 200 we lose piss poor coaching...

RE: 2013 Iowa football schedule
To the iowa hawkeye only.
No you couldn't see 2008 coming but you could see this Fall in wins coming. Maybe not 4 and 8 but you could see it wasn't going to be a good year. What we are missing here is a healthy Norm Parker. We had Norman 2008 but not now. We should've hired a defensive coordinator from outside the program last year. We need to do that now. We also need a new wide receivers coach. Unless tbese changes are coming we will be No better than Five wins and Seven losses in 2013. Kirk coached teams will never score a lot of points on offense no matter who the oc is. Kirk needs a dominant defense and special special teams win.
Thank you Gary Barta and Sally mason you ate my football team and ruined Kirk. " lifetime contract security equals lowered incentive in even the best of humans."

Re: 2013 Iowa football schedule
I don't think even the Missouri State game is a given, I think the Hawkeyes will find a way to blow this one. It looks like we are going to be 0-12 next season, about 40 years after the Hawkeyes had their last winless season. Does anybody remember?
We are on the verge of being the laughing stock in the FBS. A lot of schools will circle Iowa on the schedule and mark an easy "W". I am not pessimistic, I being a realist. Ferentz is being too soft, and the players are getting away with it. That is awful coaching.
Barta needs to go. Get a real AD, and tell Ferentz to get his act together or they will find somebody to replace him. Take it or lump it.

Again I repeat, getting rid of Barta is not all of a sudden going to make KF a good coach. The game has passed KF at the college level.
Let's see what Rudock can do!

He was a rare and exceptional DC and we were lucky to have him. We need to bring in a serious defensive mind, though I don't see Phil vacating any time soon. Unless either Rudock or Sokol turn out to be exceptional, I don't see 2013 turning out like 2008. Keep in mind the source of that forecast.
