I wish hunting was an NCAA sanctioned sport.  He'd be an All-American and the pride of our hunting team.

He'd probably just keep handing his gun to the deer.

Replaced by someone who the coaches clearly deemed worse and without any experience. Next year is going to be UGLY!!!

Ferentz gives his approval.  Asking mercy from a bear seems like a winning strategy.

Things change. Some of us thought he would improve this year.

Btw... How's that undefeated season working out for ya?

I seem to recall more than a few Buckeye fans being impressed with his performance, too.  Your defense must have been weak that season.

As a matter of fact, he has regressed every year since that performance in Columbus. He is now slower, less decisive, and gun shy.

Re: Goodbey JVB

KF essentially sacrificed an entire season out of loyalty to jvb (can't blame jvb. i'm sure he gave his best effort). What an insult to the rest of the team and the fans.

Absolutely fitting how the three of them finished the season with being intercepted after one of the most poor offensive series three men, KF, GD, and JVB could have ever concocted.

Re: Goodbye JVB

I know VB didnt look all that great today or last week,  but how much of him not improving over the past 2 years has to fall on the coaching staff??    The play calling and clock management in parts of this game were very suspect.    I know I am an outsider,  but this game today was for the taking.  And it seemed to me that the coaches were playing not to win.   Protecting there 4-8 season.   What in the world did Iowa have to lose today when they got the ball at there own 40 with about 7 minutes to go?   The play calling was as bad as I have seen in some time...   Head scratchier for sure...

Thank you Denard for 4 years of exciting football.  A true Michigan Man

Re: Goodbye JVB

KF seems to be more interested in losing by a close margin than taking any risk that could go wrong. Seriously. In games where it was obvious that we had no chance of winning, he would continue to play the starters. For example, we are the only school in Div I that has had the same QB take every snap this year!

Re: Goodbye JVB

A good guy and he'll be successful in whatever he does AFTER football.  Just didn't seem to have IT, whatever IT is, no one can explain, but you know IT when you see IT.  Had all the tools, just couldn't put IT all together.  (not the 1st or the last QB fitting that description)  No shame in the way he carried himself as a Hawkeye.  Best of luck to him and the other seniors.

ON TO NEXT YEAR.
GO HAWKS!

Re: Goodbye JVB

Martinez spent his summer with a QB coach in California and had a 70% pass completion rating, while jvb was out hunting bears! Who wants to be a real QB? Jvb is just pathetic!

Re: Goodbye JVB

My biggest issue is not JVB being bad. It is the fact that KF kept putting him out there for every single snap! JVB is who he is. He is not going to change. And this team was what it was. It was clear very early. Why not think about next season?

The QB isnt the problem. Its hard to gain yards and win football games when every defense knows what you are going to do. On every play.

Re: Goodbye JVB

It is a combination of many things. Bad play calling, bad QB decision making, and bad execution. Where to begin?

But it all took place under KF's watch.

Re: Goodbye JVB

Ferentz did an awful thing to this young man. Vb became his sacrifice so that he (Ferentz) could be seen as the "man in charge". Terrible disservice to VB. Can you imagine years from now how VB will  be remembered by Iowa fans.? What an ugly legacy... and he may also be he reason that ultimately Ferentz leaves. You did no favor for  this young man by allowing him to become the "reason" Iowa failed so miserably lthis year. VB was cleverly scapegoated by eidther KF or Davis. Not very nice.

The Columbus outing was before the full impact of KFs game philosophy had done it's damage.

The regression of Vandenberg is 100% on the coaching staff and their scarred shitless approach to every aspect of the game.

Are you talking about JVB or Kirk.  Its to bad the quarterback had to play in the system he signed up for.  Loyalty can be a good thing if your loyal to the right thing.
