I know zabel is an institution and all but it is painful to listen to him and miller. Then throw in eddy and you know why Chris Hassle from WHO-TV Sound Off did a spoof on them. It is about like Iowa football on the field at the present time. Painful, very painful.

Zabel is in love with himself. mediacom a few years back re-ran some past Iowa games, Zabel was the host, did a pregame intro before each game. Before one game, he said quote........
"nothing goes better than Iowa football an Jim Zabel combined."

Not the worst prediction. The worst was placing USC at #1 in the preseason polls and placing them in the NC game.

C'mon, everyone---Zabel has always been the ultimate Iowa homer, you can't and shouldn't expect him to be an objective journalist or prognosticator when it comes to his beloved Hawks.
Take him for what he is, the grand old man of Hawkeye sports media. I don't know if he still works as Master of Ceremonies at I-Club banquets, but he was the best back in his day.

In all honesty, I had a lot more hope for this team, after the MSU game. But that was based more on an inflated opinion of MSU (looking back). I thought MSU was a much better football team and put too much stock in that road win. Especially since JV couldnt win on the road, last season. I cant fault the guy. I belong in this thread too.  |

I miss the 80's too. Iowa football and basketball-good. KC Royals-good. Celtics-good. Today only Celtics are competitive and Iowa bball is getting better. Oh yeah and Hulk Hogan was not a pity of a man and America was a place to be proud of. |

I think all these tough guys on here bad-mouthing Zabel should put down the computer, climb the stairs out of your mom's basement, drive over to Zabel's house, and kick the crap out of him.
Who the hell does Zabel think he is, making outlandish predictions like that?
Doesn't he know there are a lot of people without perspective or common sense, that will take stock in those predictions, and then become horribly upset and traumatized when the predicitons don't come to fruition?
Can you say "lowest common denominator"?

Zabel has been through the bad Iowa football teams, and the good Iowa football teams. He has seen a lot of stuff in his time and he still is an Iowa fan. Nothing wrong with that.
