So, if by some chance, Ferentz is out...
can we even trust that Barta would make a good hiring decision?

Barta will be gone before Ferentz.

True, he did hire Fran. However, up through the Orange Bowl victory, KF looked like a good hire.
Let's see what Rudock can do!

Re: So, if by some chance, Ferentz is out...
Its not that Barta would make a bad hire, necessarily, its that he has nothing invested in our athletic program. Therefore, as long as its making money, he is satisfied to leave it that way. He is not pro-active. He has no vision outside of where the next donation is coming from and as long as people show up, he doesnt care if the team is 0-12. He has NO pride in Iowa football. If he did, he wouldnt tolerate KF's conference record. He wouldnt tolerate the sub standard recruiting. And I agree with the other poster. Barta is gone before KF is.

To say that Ferentz hasn't been a good hire is plain stupid. Am I frustrated with this season and last, sure. But he has been far more good for the program then bad.

Agreed, but in the world of sports it is "what have you done lately". The program should never have gotten to this state. It all starts and stops with Ferentz. It is not like he left the cupboard bare on the way out. He has had almost a decade and a half to avoid these kinds of seasons. He has had some very good years, true, but we should never get to this point, ever ( a probable 4 win team, wow).

Ferentz has been a good coach at Iowa, not great. The extension Barta gave him in 2010 displayed terrible judgement on Barta's part. It has put the University in a terrible hole. It is now apparently stuck with an ineffective coach making an elite coach's income, and a football program free-falling towards the bottom of a weak football conference. And despite all this, that same AD says he is proud of his decision to provide that extension, and would do it again.

Football coaching has got to be one of the only professions where 'being good a couple of years ago' affords you justification for poor performance in the near past and present. 'You know, that heart surgeon was really good three years ago and lately he has had really bad outcomes, but we should give him a shot on your transplant anyway'. Does that make sense?!?!? I do not evaluate my sales team based on how they performed 3 years ago, and nor should I. Everyone can have a bad year for a number of reasons but a 3 year accelerating slide is justification for termination. I can't justify keeping somoene just because they caught lightning in a bottle 3 years ago and because they are a nice person. Performance matters!

Whoa... whoa... whoa... slow down there cowboy. Haven't you heard? There are no coaches that will come to Iowa. Nope, not one... there is no chance another coach will EVER come to Iowa. If KF leaves, the Iowa football program will fold. Barta would be off the hook.

No doubt...but I bet KF will go before Barta...just look at the BBall program...the wrestling program...Women's BB has done ok...like RJ said as long as they are making money...Barta doesn't want to look stupid for the long contract so he may be pressured to do something maybe not this year but diffenately next if they continue to be the doormats...
