Really!!!!
Reading KF's transcript a reporter asked him why he didn't kick a Field Goal instead of going for it. Even if he had missed Purdue would have gotten the ball at the same spot. You have a kicker who can kick like a mule @ least give him a shot.... Just so much bull crap every single game. I've been an Iowa fan all of my days and will continue to be, but this is rediculous We are so predictable in everything we do. Except for the one dipsy doodle dandy play we had it was just more of the same. Oh well there is a bball game on Big Ten network Monday and they actually play to win.. In couple of years Carver will be rocking and Kinnick will be like tomb if this keeps up..

Re: Really!!!!
I will never second guess Careful Kirk, when he decides to step off of the island and coach aggressively. Never, ever, ever! Neither should anyone else.

Aggressively or stupidly. Let's not get the two twisted.

Re: Really!!!!
52 yards into the wind, yeah right
his kick offs were ten yards shorter when kicking into the wind

Re: Really!!!!
I'm not confused. Nor do I care which is the cause. If KF decided he would never punt again, I'm on board. It may get him fired but I would respect his wanting to win and playing to win. Instead of going out scared of mistakes. We have the reincarnation of Muhatma Ghandi, walking our sidelines. Yuck!

Re: Really!!!!
Going for it was the right decision, no doubt.
I wonder if he would have went for it, were it not for the poor decision and all of the fall out from the Indiana game.

RE: Really!!!!
going for it was perhaps the right choice, but at the time the wind was not blowing much. The flags were not waving on the goal posts at all.
now, if you were to go for it then perhaps you run a pass play that is deep enough to get to the sticks, or one that is designed to have a high likelihood for pass interference... other teams do this... they track stats and try to give themselves a chance to make a play or get a penalty. not the hawks... they run 2 yard outs when they need 3 yards...

That play the hawks ran on fourth down is a microcosm on our season......two options on that play. FIRST OPTION- CJ right over the middle 4 yds deep....yes, he was open. SECOND OPTION- Derby run the out get the ball and let him make a play...of course JVB doesn't look at CJ and just throws to Derby.....all last spring and thru summer/fall camp JVB tells us he has to learn that CJ is open even when he's covered....he just rarely practices what he s'posedly learned.

RE: Really!!!!
Going for it the correct call in my opinion, play call in that situation well that is another story.

RE: Really!!!!
I was sitting in the south end zone, and you're right, the flags on the goalposts were not waving much, but the American flags on the east side top of the stadium showed the wind was blasting from the south. Everyone I was sitting with thought that going for it was the right decision at the time. FG would have been very tough to make.

RE: Really!!!!
Has anyone re-watched the play? I don't have the stomach to rewatch anything from this crappy season, but what other routes did we have? Were there other receivers that our QB missed? Wouldn't surprise me one bit, if a wide open receiver was missed... as it has happened way too many times this year. bostonbrian wrote: Going for it the correct call in my opinion, play call in that situation well that is another story.

Willing to bet Derby was the only guy JVB was going to look at.

RE: Really!!!!
I guess it is easy to second guess the decision not to go for the FG; but when you need a four yards on 4th, why throw the short pass play to Derby. That made no sense. A hail Mary would have been more appropriate under those circumstances.
Let's see what Rudock can do!
