Pretty dang close. Who would you feel confident that we would beat? Illinois? We just lost to Purdue at home for the first time in 20 years! We have a loosing record at home... our QB has more interceptions than touchdowns. Purdue turned the ball over 3 times..... trying to give us the game! And we still loose.

Iowa sucks and sucks bad. Purdue was horrible going into this game and look what happened. At home, no less. I don't think I've ever seen a team with less aggressiveness as this Iowa team. None whatsoever. No aggressiveness with attitude, coaching, schemes, tackling, coverage, routes, play calling, etc. I could go on and on. Just a bunch of wimps.

I will add that the talent in the upper class is lacking also.

Did you see the results of the poll? Who would be more likely to go to a bowl game next season (2013)? Purdue 72% Iowa 28%
That has doormat written all over it.
Still bleeding black and gold though.

We would not throttle anyone ... period ... especially on the road. I feel for you guys, but don't get too far ahead of yourselves; this is the worst Illini football team I've ever seen. I guess I do get to hang on to the fact that we beat you guys the last time we played (you know, ten years ago). I think both of our fan bases are ready for hoops! Regardless of how those seasons go, they can't be much worse than football. P.S. How hot is KF's seat? What would it take for the fan base to turn on him enough to force the administration to make a change?

Re: New Doormat of Big 10
I had the same thought initially about Illinois, but if you watch Iowa football, you then come to the realization that if we played them, we would make them look really good (or we would simply be noticeably worse on that given day) and probably lose in a very frustrating fashion. The people who have been voicing concerns about the talent quality coming up the ranks the past coupe of years were right on. We are seeing the result of this. Its okay, we will be back in a few. #westinknowthough tingy wrote:

I definitely will agree we are looking forward to seeing basketball get rolling.
How hot is his seat... People talk, but I cant believe its very hot with a contract that runs through 2020 and has a 75% buy out clause for the remaining contract, which could be in the neighborhood of 30 million dollars????
The university will not come up with that money so there would have to be some big donors that would likely have to come up with some cash and I dont see that happening yet. Not til the stadium does not fill up on game days???

It would be a monumental issue/breakthrough in the world of college athletics if it were to actually happen. I know it won't but it is a good idea.

Yep. That's what a 10 year, 3.8 million dollar contract gets you. A one-way ticket to the BIG cellar! What a joke.

Re: New Doormat of Big 10
As I stated in another thread, MAC teams will soon be calling up Barta to try and add Iowa to their schedules for an easy victory. It's hard to believe that a coach with this length of tenure has lead a team from the toilet to the top, and back down to the toilet. Normally this only happens when a coach comes in and wins with the previous coach's players, then proves he can't build the program him self... yes, I'm looking at you Gene Chizik.

sad I don't think the people wanting to go to Iowa games is sad because they want a change...I think it's sad that the Uof I gave a huge contract out...I think it's sad to see our coach continue to play the game "his" way...I think it's sad to see the D coach plays bend don't break football and seldomly blitzes...I think it's sad to see our Iowa Hawk players busting their butts to have them coached the way they are...I think our record is sad... I still love Iowa football and I would still go to games to show my support to the student athletes that are on the field...it's frustrating to see KF spriraling down...

If our coaching staff keeps making excuses why we can't recruit better players, and they don't get better at putting the pieces together...
We are in for some long years ahead of us...

We are in for some long years ahead of us... The thing that concerns me is that most of the fans also think that Iowa will never be able to get this talent either. What's the point of being in the richest BCS conference with one of the top 15 best known brands in football if you can't get any talent to show for it? Something just doesn't add up here.

Re: New Doormat of Big 10
There are some teams that would beg to differ with your "top 15 brands"
Florida State, Florida, Texas, USC, aTm, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Notre Dame, UCLA...
You have to have decades of sustained success before you have a top 25 brand... Iowa's never had a single decade of consistent success.
Does this mean the right coach can't come in and build that type of brand? Heck no, but Iowa needs to realize it's not getting there with the current staff.

You guys do a nice job removing the mud and dog sh*t off of our shoes. Thanks. Seriously, you're just going through a down period, a talent bottleneck. KF is one of the best coaches in the conference and will have you back winning soon! The alternative is to hire some coach like Tim Beckman and truly become the doormat of the Big Ten for a looooonngg time. If I were an Illinois fan, I'd be scoping out tall buildings and bridges to jump from.

This team has no fire, no Roth or Angerer type leader, and has taken on the demeaner of their HC. I could swear the players are writing in little notebooks on their legs in the huddle.

Sadly yes Iowa is the doormat. They might catch lightning in a bottle and have all the luck on their side (2009) but consistance in winning football is a forgotten memory.
