IOWA VS. PURDUE

Ferentz's furture as Iowa coach is on the line. A home loss to a winless Purdue team maybe impossible to recover from, despite the buyout. Here's hoping it doesn't come to this .

Re: IOWA VS. PURDUE

I cant see that far into the future, but I can see one week into the future. Heres how the presser is going to go.

Heres to the Purdue coaching staff and players
They played a good game today
They wanted it more that we did
You have to make the plays and today we did take advantage of our opprotunities
We have a lot to work on this week and start preparing for Michigan

Let me know if I left anything out.

Hmmm, this sounds like what we heard yesterday!? And the last 14 years!?
The top Ferentz Appologist excuse:

Yep...We have the players in there that gives us a chance to win...reporter, "Do you feel you should start looking at your younger players for next year?"
KF, "We still have 3 games left...we are playing one game at a time...we will put in players here that gives us the best chance to win."

IMO; his job is not on the line.  All new coordinators take time to adjust and bring in their own style of players.  The Board of Regents won't buy out his contract with the economy the way it is etc...

Really....time...penn state had a whole new coaching staff...team defections and they totally kicked Iowa's butt...that argument does not hold water....

Come on lets be truthful now, there are new coordinators in name only.  They are running KF's offense and defense.  Without Norm he no longer has a coach with the ability to make adjustments

Norm was at the game yesterday.  He does not look too good.  He is an extremely nice man!!!! Walked right in front of us as the buses arrived.  Was moving very slow getting to the elevator to get to his where he was sitting.

nah, not yet anyway. Iowa is in this same position next, I'll change my tune a little. But for the moment Ferentz is safe regardless.

Not a chance he gets fired.  What would his buyout be, 28-30 million?  And then we have to sign a new coach to about or more than 4 mil/ year?  Not a chance he's getting fired.  We are Iowa, we don't have that kind of cash laying around.

I agree with Hawkaholic, with this proviso: if there is some kind of scandal that could affect the overall reputation and integrity of the University, I could foresee the Regents biting the financial bullet.  It will take something much more serious than losing football games for KF to be shown the door before 2016, IMHO.

Ferentzlover!   Are you dissing Ferentz?   A couple of years ago I asked you and Ferentz4Governor if you were changing your screen names after people were finally catching on to the real KF.  Remember the old adage I mentioned back then:

Never get a tattoo with the name of your girlfriend and never create a screen name that professes love for the coach.

I recall you two weren't very kind with your replies to me.  wink
So what are you going to do about the screen name?

Brent Bielema would tell you to not get your teams mascot for a tattoo and TGFT would agree with not using the coaches name.

Hi CG,
OK, here is my come to Jeebus moment.  Wifey & I have enjoyed KF as a speaker at the I club functions.  That's what initially peaked my/our interest in him. Up until recently I dismissed the losses as flukes that he could eventually work his way out of.  Yes, I think he still has some wins in him, however the fan base (including me) is so disenchanted with the job he is doing as of late I think he has allowed things to erode past the point of no return.

I've never been one to rip on the money he earns.  He has an excellent agent and that's how the world works.  I do have a problem with a 10 year contract.  Thought it was a poor business move at the time and now I really feel that way.

I will profess that yes I was one of those poor kids who sat in knothole seating when I was a kid to watch Cummings ball.  This doesn't feel that low to me but its getting there.  Yes, I hate for the Hawks to lose as much as anyone.  Can't see an easy way out of this anytime soon is what bugs me as much as anything.  GB would not have consented to an interview concerning the program this week if he were not under serious pressure IMO.

And no I haven't changed my screen name.  Too darned lazy I guess.  So for those reading this and keeping score:

*IF there was an easy way for KF to be replaced I'd be for that.
*I think a ten year gig was a huge no-no.
*$3.4M or whatever it is was what the market was at the time according to GB & Cornrich.
So blast away.........

A lot of us would appreciate your thoughts even more, if you can put your money where your keyboard is, and if your wallet is fat.

Ferentz has a contract buyout of around $20 million or so. Let us know when you are ready to spring $20 million for the buyout, and then we will start looking for someone who can do the job for the same money or less who is better.

Gene Chizik could be on the market. He has a national championship under his belt.

In no way, shape or form is Captain coaching for his job. If you think that Barta has the nuts to fire KF you are wrong. KF will be here if we end up 4-8, and get blown out by Michigan and Nebraska, you can bet all you got on that.

We're all coaching for our jobs. None of us gets a free pass. Results have consequences. The University simply cannot afford for its football program to fall into irrelavancy

Huh...that was sarcasm, I'm a frustrated Hawk fan as well, and I'm tired of the bozo's crying and saying KF is here until 2020 or whenever because the U of I doesn't have enough scratch to buy him out, to that i say bull sh!t, three sure (legal) ways to lose a coaching job eventually is losing football games, poor recruiting, and coaching, and KF has been doing all three, games you were not supposed to lose, etc...so really you want him to further fail in his duties right? if you want change? Besides, coaching 14 years in one place is too long, at least for KF it is, the game has passed him by.

Really cool to see you join us.   Welcome!   I'm sure you can better understand where I was coming from all of these years.   Of course, it looks like we are stuck now with no solutions.   If ever there was a good time for the basketball program to be resurrected, it would be now.   So at least we have something to be excited about until they finally buy out the KF contract.   But it could take many years.   I'm guessing Barta will be gone sometime next year.   The whole situation is just sad.   Too bad there isn't a way you can simply swap out your name with another.  I will wish that option was available too because someday when KF is gone, ChewingGum will be outdated!  wink

Ok, honestly, there is nobody on the Staff who could take over heading the ship... so if you fear he is nearly out the door, then who replaces him? Please provide a short list of viable options.

No use speculating who would be next coach because absent a health issue it simply isn't going to happen next season.

Purdue is an awful team, so I think Iowa does have a chance to beat them.   But beating one of the worst teams in the Big Team on your home turf hardly erases or excuses everything else this season.  Especially when a Purdue win does nothing for us regarding a bowl bid since the last two games are pretty much hopeless.   ohlord

Iowa doesn't need to pay 4 mil for a coach. Thats not typical scale.
