Breanna Stewart

Geno says Re Bree: " I just think she's got an opportunity to be as good as any player we
have "EVER" brought here. She is going to be every ones worst nightmare for 4 years and in my opinion Baylor's next spring.

Re: Breanna Stewart

Did he really say that about Baylor?

That's putting a ton of pressure on a Freshmen regardless of how good she is.

UCONN will be great as usual but Baylor returns all five starters and has a strong recruiting class. Barring injury they should win it all again.

Re: Breanna Stewart

I'm sorry to say this but I think Breanna Stewart is completely overrated. She does have great versatility but she is not great anything. She is tall but needs to bulk up to play down low. She can dribble but definitely not well enough to make her a primary ball handler or even a second ball handler on the court. She would be a good third option for handling the ball. She can shot pretty well when you consider her length but if she were 5 foot 10 no one would be saying she is a great shooter just OK.

I saw her in person twice at Boo Williams and a couple of time on television and I came away thinking she is going to be a good role player in college.

The IH thinks that The Last Don is going to pull some trick stuff and make The Grinder choose between checking Dolson and Stewart throughout the game...
He has good enough shooters to work with.

Re: Breanna Stewart

I agree. She may be suited for the 3 or possibly the 4 but I too think she is a bit overrated. When I watch her film and then see film of DD I see a large descrepency in athleticism and overall ability. Blues shades I know but that is how I see it. She is no CP or MM.

RE: Breanna Stewart

Hyperbolic comment by Geno. Stewart may eventually be as good as Geno is saying but there is no way (IMO) a freshman Stewart is better than a Jr/Sr Maya Moore.

RE: Breanna Stewart

I would go with Geno on this one. I've seen her play--very precocious player. Does everything well, rebounding, ball-handling, knows when to cruise--when to blow by. In short, excellent and decision-making. Would not be surprised to see her make AA her freshman yr.

Geno's statemnent was "she has the opportunity....". With his eye for talent and his development skills I see no reason to doubt his assessment of his recruit.

At least The Last Don thinks so, or else he wouldn't have put Stewart out there like that...

Re: Breanna Stewart

adbrown says.... "I'm sorry to say this but I think Breanna Stewart is completely overrated. She does have great versatility but she is not great anything".....

I'd debate this but there's no way I could without coming off completely biased. So, let's do this....why don't you bring this topic up again at the end of the season when we've both seen her play all season? Honestly, I can't form an opinion any more than you can at this point. Let's wait and see.

That said, for you to say ANY high school player of the year is "completely overrated" and not great anything is a bit over the top, wouldn't you say? I guess you know more than all the voters for the HS POY? Because you saw her play twice in person makes you an expert? That's a pretty small body of work. Sorry, but I hold Geno's eye for talent in higher regard than yours. "A good role player"??? That's right, I'm sure she'll ride the pine her 4 years at UConn.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I respect it. But, do really think two games is enough to form relevent opinions. If, after she finishes her college career, she IS "completely overrated", I'll come back here and tell you that you were right....however, we really shouldn't judge freshmen....there's a lot to adjust to. Players develop at different speeds. Take Tina Charles, for example. Another HS POY that did virtually nothing her freshman year, and not all that much in her soph year. But how was she in her junior and senior years?

I'll be looking forward to revisiting this topic.
