Re: Recruiting Board (relaunched 6/18/12)

As we enter a week of contact I expect our coaching staff to be in full swing. I know the post is an urgent need and we know who the prospects here are.

I suspect there is a least a reasonable chance that we could get 2 more to commit to us and that would give us 6 for the 2013 class. I also suspect if this were to happen there would be not doubt we would have the no 1 class in nation. I suspect we already have that one locked up with what we have anyway but 2 or 1 more elite would be a blowout.

I was thinking about this just recently. I think the class would be epic if we could land MB or someone else highly ranked but even if not I do believe it will end up #1.

It is pretty easy to see which recruits we are after. Look at our position needs look at the top of the rankings and look who would LOOK good in Carolina Blue.

Re: Recruiting Board

Based on reports of what I have read and observed over the summer.
Diamond has separated herself as the top prospect coming out of college next year, but as we all know, because she has committed to UNC they will never anoint her as such.

But it is CLEAR, based on her summer's performance and body of work with the caliber of players around her and whom she squared off against.

The winner will be the player that can bring out the best in her team mates.

RE: Recruiting Board

The board is pretty much up-to-date.

northcarolina.scout.com/3/wbrecruiting.html

It just shows the signees for 2012 and our commits for next year and doesn't show any offers to potential recruits. However, next Wednesday (11/14) is the first day of the early signing period so it'll probably be updated after that.

RE: Recruiting Board

Looks great, with one exception. 2016 verbal is not listed. However, there is plenty of time. Her name is Joycelyn Marie Jones--and she (like all the recent commits) is excellent!

Below is some video. Note that she can score with either hand.

Re: Recruiting Board

I love A'ja Wilsons game. I think she would fit perfectly with UNCs group coming in besides the fact that she is the best player in the class. I also think Azura Stevens is a player of interest.

Re: Recruiting Board

An article in Richmond Times Dispatch (11/29/12) about Jocelyn Jones, a Cosby HS Freshman. She said she was offered by UNC after camp last summer and committed last fall.

Is this a case of overstatement by the player, tremendous foresight or big risk by the coaches ?

Any info on her ?

Re: Recruiting Board

From what I understand Jocelyn, is a top player in the class of 16. She did commit as an eighth grader, but she is a Freshman @ Crosby. Te'a Cooper commited as a 8th grader as well, and if nothing has changed, both are solid.

Re: Recruiting Board

The below article gives a bit of information regarding the 'commitment':

www.eurweb.com/2011/10/13-yr-o...nc-chapel-hill/

I had the opportunity to see her in a post-season tournament last year where she scored 20 pts by halftime. She cooled off in the second half most likely due to tiring, but the scoring capabilities were very evident. And, as mentioned earlier in this post she is an adept scorer with either hand.

What is the best online site to get information on high school recruiting for girls?

RE: Recruiting Board

Many of us use ESPN HoopGurlz. If you go to the ESPN home page, click on "More Sports" and then on "Women's BB" in the drop down, it will take you to the women's home page. Scroll about halfway down and you will see the link.

Re: Recruiting Board

While ESPN has been a very good site for the HS game in the past, they pulled resources (and Rebecca Gray was one of them) from what was a specialized section know as 'Hoopgurlz'. They don't move with the same consistency and make no guarantees with regard to the HS game. Some other good sources are:

Max Preps
www.maxpreps.com

All Star Girls Report
www.asgr.info

Blue Star Basketball
www.bluestarbb.com/

Re: Recruiting Board

I am thinking that 2014 could be the breaking point. We are probably two recruits away from us having every position covered with depth and all american caliber recruits. If we were to get these players everything anyone knows about UNC wbb changes.

There is a new conference ahead. Maryland leaves and Notre Dame and Louisville Syracuse and Pitt come in. The conference landscape is changing and UNC is well positioned to compete for the New ACC womens title.

It all begins with recruiting. We had a class for the ages last year. We know who has already committed. Something special is going on. If it continues in 2014 and indications are that it will, we will all be very happy. Somehow this years team may have provided the basis for what is ahead. At least thats the sense I get.

Within this thread is a story that spans a couple of years. To see how we arrived to where we are now and an indication at where we might be going clues might be found in these posts that are pinned right in front of us. For those that have the time and are so inclined it might be interesting to take a look back from then to now. A look at the developments that have shaped the future of UNC wbb. A future that apparently still has a chapter or two to write.

ACF, You know I love you and all that but really? Reading homework at my age. Forget my failing eyesight. Forget my inability to comprehend the simplest of messages. At my age still chasing around 4 kids my attention span is akin to that of a gnat.

Re: Recruiting Board

A quick look back at this thread around page 6,7,8 covers what was going on with Diamonds recruitment. At that time did we have any idea that May 5th would happen. It is worth a reread.

We were given the same stuff back then. All I know is that UNC is going to be a great place for wbb in the coming years. Great games will be played at Carmichael and in the ACC and WE will be one of the most talented teams in wbb.

We are very much in the hunt for some very top tier recruits and UNCs name is at or near the top of their lists. That is enough. And any thing posted here should be scrutinized for where it comes from and who it is trying to influence. We have seen it before....refer to the bottom of page 6.
