Babyblew, I just did another roster for next year and we are at sixteen players. I do believe that Hillary Summers is one of those players who maybe on academic scholarship, or otherwise because she is not listed on ESPNH.... yet Adut Bulgak is. Speaking of Adut Bulgak, she is in the process of trying to get qualified academically from what was previously posted on the board. You really seem set on Jessica Washington, while I am sold on Tyler Scaife. Remains to be seen, yet I am very optimistic that next year should be a much better year, or we may see change in CHAPEL HILL.

Re: Recruiting Board

I'm guessing that maybe Summers or Bulgak will red shirt and has agreed to red shirt for Hatchell? Same with 2013 i'm guessing Bria Day will probably red shirt. Point is i have faith that the coaching staff has a plan in place and know or is figuring out how everyone will fit in. Tyler Scaife is a great prospect and i wouldn't complain if we end up landing her, i just think all around Jessica Washington is the more explosive player, and is a pretty accurate shooting from beyond the arch and perimeter shooter, so that is why i'm sold on her she has a killer instinct mentality. I won't lie i would be a little disappointed if she didn't commit to us, i know how she likes Notre Dame and i'm sure she is keeping her option open to stay home and play in state.

Redshirting has nothing to do with the scholarship count.

Re: Recruiting Board

If Summers has not signed an athletic scholarship, how could Coach Hatchel comment about her after the early signing period. Coaches cannot comment on players that have not signed. Receiving academic scholarship money is not binding is it? An academic scholarship is equivalent to being a walkon.

Re: Recruiting Board

Any updates on the ladies we are recruiting for 2013? I haven't heard or seen anything in a while, and how many scholarships do we have available exactly. Good news for Viking is that it seem as if Tyler Scaife watched the men play today and was routing for them and TSO is maybe trying to convince her to come to Chapel Hill. Again i must admit i'm getting a little disappointed here as i wish we could of land Jessica Washington instead. Oh well...

Babyblew, I have been told by a VERY RELIABLE source that we are believed to have the inside track to Tyler Scaife. I am not saying she is going to commit here, (CIERRA BURDICK.......), but she does very well like UNC. I honestly think that if it were not for our current commitments of TOP PG's she would of pulled the trigger by now. I never see here giving shout outs to no other school but UNC.

Re: Recruiting Board

You mean with the commitment of Bannister, Cherry, and Cooper that's delaying Scaife from committing to us? And we cooled off on Washington? Honestly again i hope that isn't the case. Also i don't know if this still factors into her decision with the passing (R.I.P) of Budke and Serna who was very very close with Tyler and her family, but i wonder OK State still has a shot in landing her.

Re: Recruiting Board

Babyblew, please keep in mind that though Bannister did play pg this year, she is more of a two. The recruitment of Bannister has absolutely nothing to do with the recruitment of TS, or JW. It is believed by many that JS is a strong ND lean, which may explain the strong interest for TS. Will be interesting to see how thid all plays out @ the end. GO HEELZ!!

Where can i find the info on how many scholarships we have left to offer, specifically for the 2013 class. Also TSO posted on her twitter she received a surprised call from a west coaster, maybe Mercedes Russell? And isn't she supposed to be visiting soon?

RE: Recruiting Board

It is hard to answer that, because the situation is constantly changing.

Next year, our 2013 team would have 16 players on scholarship, if you include Bulgak. I am 90% sure that Candace Wood will not return as an active player. That would leave us with three seniors: Ruffin-Pratt, Gross and Rolle. It should be remembered that Rolle actually has a full semester of eligibility the following year, if she chooses to use it. If she does not, then we would have two open scholarships, taken by the verbal commitments of Tanisha Brown and the Day sisters. So by my count and barring a transfer, we have NO scholarships available from the 2013 class - we're already one over.

Our 2014 team would have no seniors in terms of athletic eligibility, although Latifah Coleman and Shannon Smith would be academic seniors. We wouldn't have an open scholarship, although we have a verbal commitment from Jamie Cherry. This class would be a problem.

In 2015, we would be two over on scholarships. However, things open up very quickly thereafter. Four scholarships would open up in 2015, and only one is committed (Te'a Cooper). The next year, no fewer than seven will be available.

It looks like this to me - but remember this does not account for walk-ons, injury redshirts, transfers, academic scholarships, graduations with eligibility remaining, and so forth:

2013 ROSTER

1-SR Krista Gross
2-SR Tierra Ruffin-Pratt

Ideally when you can land enough of the top studs, then you operate like most of the very best teams in the 12 range. This is a easier coaching situation for many reasons.

Zin, this is all confusing...lol i mean you pretty much put it in full prospective and gave me an idea what we are working with here now and for the future, the confusing part is, if we have no available scholarships left for 2013, i have to agree with others who asked the same question why are we still even recruiting for that class. Tho it has come to no surprise and i've been pretty vocal on landing Mercedes Russell and or Jessica Washington for 2013. SH and TSO must know something, and have some leverage to work with. I just wish it was updated more like men's recruiting instead of this huge code of silence.

Honestly speaking there is little from any of our 2013 commitments, and I could be wrong but I believe that Hillary Summers which is committed to us is on "some" type of scholarship, because if you go to ESPNHG, she is not even listed as a commit, while Adut Bulgak who commited way after Hillary is. I have heard that Hillary is very smart. I dunno its just pure speculation on my part. HERES TO TYLER SCAIFE:)

As I said, the situation is changing. One thing I am sure about: TSO, TWJ and SH can all count to 15. I have to believe that there is a plan somewhere. NCAA rules prohibit comments about any player who hasn't signed a LOI, so we don't know about Bulgak officially or, any of the players from the 2013 class onwards. Kindly stay tuned to this channel.

Girls basketball: Springfield's Mercedes Russell narrows college choices

Springfield star Mercedes Russell, the top-ranked prospect in the 2013 class according to ESPN.com, has narrowed her list of potential colleges to a top 10 The reigning 5A player of the year, Mercedes said she had decided that she will play basketball at Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Georgia, USC, Duke, North Carolina, LSU or Baylor, the 2012 national champion.

Russell has already taken unofficial visits to Tennessee, Louisville and Kentucky. She hopes to have her final five choices by the end of the summer and take official visits to those campuses before the early signing period in November.

From what i have seen, watching her recruitment through out the months, we weren't even on her list. At the end of the day tho i think the final 2 will be Notre Dame and Kentucky, given that she hyped them two up the most in the past, but we'll see.

Only west coast team she has on her list is the University of Southern California where i listed above from the article. Now as far as a school being absent <---UConn Wes may be right, given they already have Stefanie Dolson who is 6'5 and i think will enter her Junior year & 6'4 one of my favorite non Tar Heels player Kia Stokes who will enter her sophmore year for Geno plus a couple of other 6'3, 6'4ish players on their team.

Also note if anyone have noticed that Mercedes Russell, Stephanie Mavunga and Erica McCall seem to all want to play with one another, and calling themselves a "package deal" for right now, i don't know how many scholarships UConn have, but i don't see them fitting all 3 women into their program. Heck i can't see how we will be able to fit all 3 women into our program, given we already have 3 commitments for this class. But it appears Hatchell and TSO are working something out from what i seen on twitter. Stay tuned....
