Wingate is picked to finish first in their conference and won over 20+ games last year. They return everyone so might make for an interesting game.

Have not checked for any game feeds either on internet radio or at THB but would be nice if someone has this info to post it.

I called and talked to a gentleman on Monday about this season's online streaming since they have the GoHeelsTV format and he stated that the decision for online streaming for the season was still in the works and no decision had been made.

Just FYI there won't be a radio broadcast tonight. I don't know if they'll be doing an online video stream, but no radio broadcast. We'll start with the first regular season games.

Most games will be available on both the internet and WCHL. I'll try to let the board know of games that won't be on WCHL as we go through the season. They have conflicts with men's games and other programming obligations from time to time.

UNC 90 WINGATE 52

WINGATE is a good team that should win their conference. They are really good at shooting the 3.

Ann Hancock one of our assistant coaches when we won our natty is wingate's coach. Anyway played better in the second half.

RE: Wingate Thursday at 7:00 pm

Once again, just looking at stats,a couple of observations:

TRP had a good night with 17 points and seven assists against only one turnover. Rolle also had 17 with 5 blocks, We had 27 steals in forcing 40 Wingate turnovers; Roundtree had 6 steals and Krista 4.

We did not shoot particularly well (37% overall) but only 4 of 20 from three (20%). Roundtree was 1 for 6 and Buckland, 1 for 5. That could be a worry if it continues.

You do not want to give up 49 rebounds to a D-II team, even in an exhibition.

We likely saw the top rotation on the floor - Gross, McDaniel, Rolle, Roundtree and Ruffin-Pratt starting and Coleman, Butts and Buckland rounding out the top eight. I would expect N'Dea Bryant to play a lot as well.

Now it will get serious.

Re: Wingate Thursday at 7:00 pm

We were badly outrebounded by Wingate in the first half. We did not shoot well both from the field and from behind the arc. Our defense picked up the slack as they had 40 tos vs our 16. That one stat was the difference.

Wingate is a good team. They would be competitive in Div 1 and I could see them making a run for the Div 2 national championship. They could beat some ACC teams if they dont play.

Ann Hancock definitely knew a lot about how we play as she was a coach here for 8 years with SH.

So what do we take away from this outing. Well it is good to see us have a somewhat competitive game at least for 1 half. We outscored them 50-18 in the second half after only being up 6 in the first after being up 20. Cant let teams get on runs thought to be honest that hit like 3 or 4 3s in on stretch. I suspect the rebounding margin of 34-22 in Wingates favor was a big point of contention in our halftime locker room.

Areas for improvement is our 3 ball. Britany shot 1-6 that will not occur on a regular basis. We shot 67% from the line they shot 88%.

All in all is a little better final than I thought as I expected about a 25 point win. We do have some things to work on espiecially when we play teams can match us athletically. Grade B based on 1st half rebounding and our shooting.

One side note I am becoming very comfortable with the idea of TRP at the point. I like her there.

Re: Wingate Thursday at 7:00 pm

What impressed me more than anything last night was the performance of Buckland and Coleman returning from injuries from a year ago. Buckland had 3 steals, 11 pts. and no turnovers. Coleman only had 3 steals, but caused a few more by disrupting the flow of Wingate's offense. Of course those did not go in her box score, but I'm sure the coaching staff noticed.

More surprisingly, Latifah seems to have no lingering effects from the injury. Her speed and activity on defense are just as good as ever. With her skills, I can see her helping significantly at the point position. She anticipates and passes very well.

Still, we maneuvered well enough to be in excellent positions to score but missed a number of great opportunities. Hopefully we will gain confidence in this area as the season continues.
