Looks like they did their homework to me. I might switch places between Virginia and Miami here, partly because I think Meier is an extraordinary coach. Otherwise, logic prevails.

With the Heels, Point and Post positions concern me. We do not have a lot of experience here--games will turn on our performance at those positions. Unless we get an unexpected emergence (like Rountree last year), this looks to be pretty much on the mark.

If we stay healthy we will be better than 6th in the acc.

I certainly hope you're right--I'd love to see us keep that 'injury bug' at bay and really embrace the challenge.

It is what it is. On the court is where it is decided. I did like the reference to us being physical once upon a time. I remember those years. Wish they still were being played that way! Fast break, fast break, fast break is nice but you have to have someone to finish!

I still think BR is the best PG on the team, but oh well!!... We'll be better than sixth :)

You hit it Coldwarrior2!

It helped to have Erlana Larkins on the blocks. I think Xylina this year and Stephanie next year will provide the toughness we have not seen since Ms Larkins.

Clough is definitely a dookie and most years that I remember, he has picked dook to win the ACC regular season. Of course, most years he has been right. Dook generally has had the talent on the court, and they do again this year.

I write a preview of all ACC teams each year, although I usually don't put the articles on the site. I do use them during the year when I write the game by game previews that appear here. My point is that more often than not, Clough and I agree in our comments - although he tends to be more opinionated in his Full Court writing. I suppose one could draw the conclusion that writing about women's basketball in the ACC isn't rocket science - it's pretty clear who has game and who doesn't.

I will add this: over the years I have read Rob Clough's comments, it seems pretty clear that he is no admirer of Sylvia Hatchell. It is possible that this colors his analysis of UNC.

Zin where does you preview appear?

There are quite a few on this board that are not Sylvia fans also.

I actually see that at as fairly reasonable pre season expectation they put together.

Could we do better, only the season will tell. But based on what other teams have coming back etc, I think it's fair.

Definitely need to revisit this one in 4 months. Besides Dook and Maryland I could throw darts and supply any number of plausiable alternatives. I just dont see his 4-8 predictions even if we are 6th as is predicted.

They will appear here, but closer to the time we actually play the games. I like to write the previews (the ACC at least) before the season starts and then follow along to see how things develop.

Not sure they did their homework...in just looking at GA Tech: Bivins was not injured. Chelsea Regins was skilled. Check the roster and you will see that Newton and Gortnar are not even on there. Wallace was consistent, its just that she is a liability on the defense end.... If so much information is incorrect about GA Tech, I am scared to think of other schools.

Here's what I know about Georgia Tech:

Shayla Bivins, a 6-5 C, redshirted all of last year. Prior to that she appeared in 20 games over two years. If she was injured I have not heard that but she might have suffered some minor injury over the summer. However, 6-1 W Jasmine Blain is coming back from an injury - torn ACL. Perhaps the two are being confused.

Tjasa Gortnar was badly injured this summer playing for Slovenia, when she tore both her ACL and MCL. So far as I know, she is at home in Slovenia. In any case, she cannot play this year.

I have no idea why 6-3 freshman C Je Zhe Newton is not shown on the roster. Coach Joseph talked about her at Media Day and she has been profiled on the Tech website in one of those "Getting to know" features. I have not heard anything that would indicate she is not part of the team. It seems odd that the roster would not list her.

Syd Wallace was All-Freshman a year ago, but the real strength of GT's team is Ty Marshall. As Marshall goes, so go the Jackets.

If Tech has any exhibition games, they are not listed on the schedule. I find that odd as well. They open the season Nov. 11 against Tennessee so I suppose we will know more then.

Thanks Zin...very interesting. Sounds more like the Georgia on the other side of the former 'Iron Curtain'.
