Coach Fox really is a class act and so are his players

Coach Fox really is a class act and so are his players

Hi everyone,

I just received the nicest, most heartfelt letter from Coach Fox and one of the players on the team. My father many years ago endowed an athletic scholarship in my name (well, now it's in the name of my family) and each year we are asked if there is a sport we would prefer it to be used for. We have always chosen baseball and each year Coach Fox has written us the nicest, most appreciative letter. He also has the player who was given the scholarship write us a letter. I have always been impressed with the letters we have received from the players but this one blew me away. I'm not going to say who it is from just because I feel like it would be infringing on his privacy but wow, this young man put a lot of thought into his letter. Every year they have a dinner where the people who have endowed scholarships can meet the athletes but we've never gone. With three little kiddos it's always been hard to find a sitter. This year though I am making sure that we have a sitter well in advance because I am extremely excited about meeting this young man. We are just so lucky to have Coach Fox. He recruits not only great athletes but wonderful young men as well.

My former experience with Coach Fox left me similarly impressed. You couldn't ask for a better representative for this university.

RE: Coach Fox really is a class act and so are his players

Have been meaning to post this for about a week now and this thread seems appropriate. My 11 year-old son does FCA weekly before middle school and then they have a speaker / program once a month on a Friday after school. The speakers last week (in Raleigh) were Coach Gaines and Benton Moss talking about their faith, accountability, how they live Christian lives, etc. (Matt Rubino was also there but didn't talk). Talked to all 3 before and after the event (I was happy to "chaperone" this mid-afternoon event when my wife mentioned there would be Carolina guys there...haha). Very impressive young men and proud to have guys like this at Carolina! Just wanted to share as we too often hear of athletes at various schools doing dumb things, appearing selfish, etc. and then you have these 3 who travel to Raleigh on a Friday afternoon to talk to a bunch of rambunctious middle schoolers for no recognition whatsoever.

Fox has always been a class act going back to his days at NC Weslyan in Rocky Mount....

Question: since baseball gets screwed with their number of schollies, and one scholly is usually divided between two and sometimes three different players, meaning they are partial schollies, when you endow a scholly does it not go to more than one player ?? Just how does that work???

When I joined the Rams Club in 1980, you could endow a full scholarship for $50k. Today, it takes $500k. I'm guessing some of those older $50k "full" scholarships might be funding partial scholarships today.

Well, the value of $50k invested in 1980, would likely be over $400k now, since they only spend a portion of the interest each year. Tuition in 1980 for a semester was about $180, and the full cost of a year at UNC was under $2000.00.
I suspect the endowments are still in place as created.
