UNC Announces New Scoreboard At Boshamer Stadium
UNC Athletic Communications Release 
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Thanks to a generous donation by Carolina letterman Vaughn Bryson along with other Carolina baseball supporters, the University of North Carolina announced plans today to upgrade the scoreboard at Boshamer Stadium.
"We are very excited to add a new video board to Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium," head coach Mike Fox said. "Vaughn has worked tirelessly these past four years raising the funds necessary for this final piece to our already spectacular facility. I would also like to extend a special thank you to the other contributors to this project." The project calls for one of the largest video boards in college baseball as the video board will be upgraded from its current size of 10 feet tall by 14 feet wide to 14 feet 8 inches tall by 47 feet 3 inches wide with a resolution of 224 by 720. The CBS Outdoor video board will feature a 20mm pixel pitch, which is the same technology used in Carolina's Kenan Stadium and TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, the home of the College World Series. "This new video board will enhance the game day experience for our fans and allow us to showcase the many accomplishments of our players," Fox added. In addition, the 9 foot 4 inch tall by 47 foot 3 inch wide LED digit scoreboard will feature white LED digits displaying programmable team names, a time-of-day clock and a pitch speed display. The structure will also include an illuminated analog clock and backlit "CAROLINA" with two brick pillars installed on each side of the displays and interlocking NC logos on each pillar. The project will be completed in time for the 2013 season.

That is FAN Tastic!!! Can't wait to see it. Very glad all the red lettering and numbering will be gone for good!!
Next step, let's work on the PA booth and get some real baseball music and Carolina songs to get the fans fired up!

What Dan??? You mean you're tired of hearing Miley Cyrus???
Please Pleasze Please find somone that understands how to use the music and maybe a clap track to get things livened up in our Beautiful Ball Yard. I hope that 30 will hire someone to do just that.
The only thing missing from our new scoreboard it seems would be a section that notes who is warming in the Bullpen. It would be nice to have that as they do in MLB parks so that you know who is out there throwing.

There is a net in left field that protects not on the scoreboard but the parking lot as well.

A big thanks to the donors who made this new scoreboard possible. This really makes the baseball stadium a first class facility. I would like to make one suggestion and that would be to improve on the music that is played at the games. Thanks again donors.

Hey...y'all get off my case with those RED numbers! :-)
When we designed that thing back in 2001, the only LED's available were red and amber and the amber ones got washed out badly by the sun.
Seriously though, I'll be glad to see the red gone as well.

Obviously, they never do a sound check. With a few hundred people there, the sound doesn't need to be cranked up as high as it is in the Dean Dome or Keenan

I thought stop lights came out with LED about the same time as the up-dated scoreboard. If so, the yellow LED would have been better.

One of the great things about this scoreboard (besides high definition resolution) is that the line score can be eliminated temporarily; freeing up the entire viewing area for replays and other images that are best seen with as much viewing area as possible. The entire scoreboard is like one large computer monitor.
We're very fortunate to have it coming our way; thanks to all of the benefactors who made it possible.

I'm happy for the new scoreboard, and have a question for all. When did it become de rigueur to post a score in the half inning, before the half inning is complete? As an example, most parks now post a zero in the visitor's box to start the game, then post a zero in the home team's box to start the bottom of the inning. I don't think that's the classical method of posting scores.

For those of you going to the Wake football game in Winston on Saturday, Wake has almost the same type system in their football stadium except it is slightly larger than what we will have in our baseball stadium. I have seen the one at Wake and it and the sound system with it are spectacular.

It's a good thing there will also be a digital clock for those unable to tell time on the analog clock. Does a scoreboard really need two clocks?
