ACCT: UNC vs WFU Game Thread (w/ live analysis)
The #2 seed Tar Heels take on #7 seed Wake Forest. Opening pitch is set for 7 PM. Shane Taylor (5-0, 3.09 ERA) takes the mound for Carolina. Lots of blue sky with a helping of white clouds. Earlier forecast called for 80 percent chance of rain at 7pm, but there won't be any problem with this game getting started on time.

T1: The Deacons hit three balls hard, but only one goes for a hit. Shane Taylor also plunks Mac Williamson (ACC HR leader w/ 17), but gets out of the inning on a pop out to left field. 0-0

B2: The Tar Heels get their first base runner of the game on a two-out walk to Coyle. However, nothing doing for Carolina as Cooney strikes out two more. 0-0

On a Mac Williamson hit to center, Chaz Frank guns down Pat Blair at home for the second out of the inning. The throw was a rope and right on target to Stallings, who did a great job blocking the plate.

Bryan can speak to this because he covered that game, but it doesn't seem the breaking ball command is nearly what it was at Duke. Can't seem to figure it out.

Not sure how much more we're going to get out of Taylor tonight. Already around 60 pitches and hasn't looked very sharp. Control has been an issue.

Control a huge issue considering the edges this ump is giving to both pitchers. Large strike zone with the outside pitches...
Dodged a serious bullet that inning. Still 0-0.

Definitely true. Shane is behind nearly every batter and his control is off. Not just with the breaking pitches either. He has already thrown 64 pitches.
ETA: In the Duke game, if I remember correctly, Taylor threw around 100 pitches. He said after the game he had not thrown that many pitches since high school.

T3: Despite walking two, giving up a sacrifice bunt and a single, Taylor gets out of the inning unscathed thanks to the great throw by Frank and a good stop by Coyle at 2nd. 0-0

That was a ground ball that bounced 5 times and was rolling before the outfielder got to it. I don't get it...

Is this real? There's no outs, ball was hit hard, Holberton isn't fast, and Williamson has a gun. Did you watch the top half of the inning?
ETA: Oh yeah, top of the order was coming up too.

yeah, goheels I did, and I watch a lot of Carolina baseball. That was a shot hit at Frank on one hop, who was charging hard and got the ball chest high. our grounder was not a shot, and was eventually rolling on the ground where the fielder, not charging hard, had to pick up off the turf.
Fox is ultra conservative coaching third. It's just the way he does things. He got lucky because we should not have scored that guy from third after the bad decision to not step on first for the first out, botched double play for the second out (and should have been the real second at the time) and Moran's K.

We looked ugly at first. Made Cooney look like a monster. I had a feeling they would swing away on this guy. Moran needs to get the bat off his shoulder. 4-0 Heels. Nice
