FWS: What? (Second Base)

FWS: What? (Second Base)

With the disappearing act from junior Mike Zolk from the Diamond Heels before the Fall World Series - the Tar Heels look jam packed with competition at second.

One of the biggest name dropping came out in post game interviews with players and coaches was how much Wood Myers impressed in the fall whenever asked about the competition there and the most impressive freshman newcomer to the team.  Myers had 5 hits while looking very steady in the field not committing an error in 17 chances.

No one player stood out in the Fall World Series with the bat or in the field more than Michael Massardo - who shined at the plate and on the bases but committed a pair of errors.

Second base had the most rotation in playing time for both the Navy and Blue team.  Most notably the two teams ended up sharing Brandon Whiteford who started for both teams at second during the FWS while amassing 4 hits.  Alex Raburn got in the action at second as well until shifting to short when Landon Lassiter took over the hot corner.

Michael Massardo started at DH, second base and in left field during the FWS.  He shined under the game day lights amassing 11 hits in the 6 game series while stealing five bases.

Based on the feedback about the overall impressions in the fall it appears as though Wood Myers has the inside track to start this spring for the Diamond Heels, but there is potential for great depth and competition there for the rigors of the college baseball season.

So what did happen with Zolk (transfer?). This is his draft-eligible year right.

Thanks, Matt. In that picture you have of Massardo, he looks like he has been hitting the weights strongly! What an outstanding hitting performance he put on.
