In a rain shortened game, Bunn wins 36-0 at its homecoming. Excellent pregame parade and spaghetti dinner at the fire dept as always. Fortunately the storms held off until halftime.

Jones connects on a 43 yd FG, 3 for 3 PAT, and 4 KO for touchbacks with another through the uprights. He drove one KO from his own 25 to the goal line after the Bunn penalty on the prior PAT. Homecoming vs Warren Co video up here:

I am surprised as to why we have not seen UNC any personnel yet?

I drove through Bunn the evening of the homecoming game. It's the one day of the year when there is a traffic jam in Bunn! I love the school spirit there.

So, did your wife have the baby okay in the car while you watched the end of the game?

Everyone,

... I missed part of the game while escorting my pregnant wife back to the car, but Bunn's kicker was perfect. He went 3 for three on FGs, had zero return yards against (all were through the back of the end zone), and made all of his extra points. He iced the game in the 4th with a 52 yarder that could have been from close to 60...

Boot update:

Jones led the Kohls website for week #4 in touchbacks with 10 nationally, all classes. He has since led the season stats for 4 straight weeks on touchbacks, now with 39 of his 44 kickoffs being of the nonreturnable variety through 7 games. Over 120 kickers (mostly upperclassmen) are posting their stats on the website. Some great company he is with.

You were spot on foot. Hope you are coaching soon!
Corinth got away from us 9-0 early but couldn't finish the race going down 40-15. Boot game film here:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggmaOBD8eUw

I'm a day late editing, Jones attended NCS camp in Charlotte yesterday with Dan Orner. He had a talented group on hand for evaluations. Good time with Mr.O as usual.

kevin,

IMO, not yet...but for comparison, Chris Sailer has Matt Wogan #2 in class of 2013 while Freeman Jones is #2 in class of 2014.

wogan: www.chrissailerkicking.com/pla...files/2013.html

jones: www.chrissailerkicking.com/pla...files/2014.html

Sailer has a camp upcoming Sat Oct 27. Jones will be there. Wogan attended the July Sailer camp that Jones won this year. That footage is posted earlier here under "Pressure" on his youtube channel.

Thanks for asking and looking.

Sorry, not to mislead you: Wogan left prior to camp final competition so Jones did not compete with him. Jones may never be the punter that Wogan is either. That guy can sky a punt, with distance.

Following the rainy night game in Louisburg, Jones is up and at the blustery Chris Sailer Nike Fall camp at Mallard Creek HS in Charlotte Saturday morning. Finishes as the KO Champion and overall camp runner-up. Only Junior in the finals. One kick from earning CSK Vegas camp and being the back to back NC Nike Camp Champion. See it here:

By the way, I'll never understand why State kicked to Gio with the late lead...what a return...and a fatal error for the Pack. They got what they deserved. We would have been there if not for the Charlotte camp.

In Bunn's 3rd round 2AA Playoff loss at NS Jax., Jones makes a 21 yd fg, 1/1 PAT, adds a TB, and boots a 47 yd punt inside the 10. Film here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLL8UmfDkuM

I never felt like Bunn was out of this game, even down by 18 in the 4th, until NS held us at 4th and goal late.

Season stats:
62 touchbacks out of 75 KO from the 40.
51/52 PAT. Active s treak of 49 makes.
9/13 FG, long of 48 (BHS record), 2 blocked.
23 punts, 30.4 yd avg in first season punting.
78 points scored.

Looking ahead, Jones will continue his development with Charlotte based trainer and UNC legend Dan Orner. Upcoming camps of major importance include Orner's Bombsquad invite only event December 8, the Kohls Southern Showcase in Atlanta December 9, and Chris Sailer's National Kicking Event in Las Vegas January 19-20.

A BIG thanks to localtarheel for asking the initial question about this future Saturday player. Thanks to all of you who have followed and supported Bunn HS and Freeman Jones throughout this season.

I agree - but I think Landfried is more accurate on field goals and Wogan is going to Oregon, so he can't be a 'Heel - I saw them kick head to head - Wogan bombed a 58 yarder - incredible - but missed a 40 yarder. Both are really good!

Yes I was at North's game against PR. But I believe it was a 51 yard fg Wogan missed. Landried missed one too. I have seen Landfried through his career and he is an excellent kicker. That was the only time I have ever seen Wogan but I have never seen a high school player with that leg strength.

mojo........ love the handle......

I notice Landfried is still off a block on FG as a senior?
Overdue to get off the ground. Makes the flight look nice and high though.

His KO are strong even with the short swing and follow through. If he were to finish that strike he could see some more distance, and with a lower contact some better hang times to go with it. Smooth hitter.

Amen Rev!

The Wildcats, Coach Miller, and Staff are to be held fully accountable for the opportunities that Jones had this season. Their creative and explosive offense, along with the stingy defense, is what put Freeman in the position to have as many reps as he did again this season.

Period.

Another Bunn grad set the curve in a class I taught this semester. I don't normally exempt folks from finals, but this young lady had scored over 100 on EVERY assignment and exam all semester. When I calculated the grades I realized it was mathematically impossible for her not to make an A for the course, so when she came in to take the final I told her to go home. She looked at me funny, and I told her unless she just particularly wanted to sit and write essays for an hour, to go home, she'd earned her A. She grinned like a possum and walked out. Sweet kid!

Re: Question about a prospect?

How valuable would another 4 year starter like the Barth's be for UNC.

If I were the coach I would always give a scholarship every 4 years to a kicker and a punter if I could find a great prospect.

The ideal might be if you could find and kicker and punter rolled into one. Nonetheless, there is no telling how many games having great players at those two positions would mean to a teams record over 4 years.

Jones attended the Chris Sailer National Event Jan 19-20 2013 in Las Vegas and comes home tied for 6th place in the FG Competition. There were over 250 kickers in attendance. His KO were top of the class, while punting were some of his his personal bests. Full results from camp will be posted by Sailer in 2-3 weeks.

More importantly, he likely earned the coveted Top 12 designation from The Event.

He will be attending Junior Day this Saturday at UNC.
