Rico McGraw didn't get the scholarship offer he hoped for, but he still holds Ohio State in high regard.

Buckeye coaches were at Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth on Tuesday. Ohio State is recruiting senior running back Cornelius "Corn" Elder and McGraw, a sophomore cornerback who already has several scholarship offers.

McGraw said Ohio State's coaches have told him an offer should be coming soon. McGraw is being recruited by tight ends/fullbacks coach Tim Hinton.

"Great school," the 6-foot, 180-pound McGraw said of the Buckeyes. "As I told coach, I am already really interested in them and hope they offer soon. Definitely has the chance to be one of my tops."

McGraw has approximately a dozen scholarship offers. The most notable are from Alabama -- which was the first school to offer him a scholarship -- Auburn, Tennessee and UCLA.

Elder has expressed interest in Ohio State, Georgia Tech, UCLA and Vanderbilt. The ESPN 300 prospect is scheduled to take an official visit to Columbus on Jan. 11.

Defensive back Rico McGraw is going to be just a sophomore this year, yet he already has nine scholarship offers from schools across the Southeast. However, there’s one school that already stands out in the early stages of his recruitment.

“I really like Alabama right now,” McGraw said.

The Tennessee native visited Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the Tide’s second scrimmage of fall camp. It was the third time he has been to UA this summer.

“It was a great trip,” McGraw said. “I got to meet with Coach [Nick] Saban once again and the all of the other Alabama coaches. I met a couple new players that I’ve never met, so that was good, too. I met one of my favorite players from this team, Rob Lester.”

At the scrimmage, McGraw said Lester and fellow safety Vinnie Sunseri made some key plays for the Tide. The 2015 prospect was hoping to see Chris Black, but the freshman wide receiver was out with a shoulder injury. Still, McGraw thought the team looked good.

“I really liked the scrimmage,” he said. “I can tell right now they’re going to have another great season, probably another national championship. They had a real good scrimmage, and I like to see them doing good on the field. They’re doing big things.”

McGraw earned an offer from Alabama in June after a breakout performance at the Tide’s 7-on-7 camp. He returned to Tuscaloosa in July to compete in another camp, and Saturday marked his third visit to UA this summer.

“I feel comfortable on the campus,” McGraw said. “Out of all my offers, that’s where I feel most comfortable at. I really like it there. There’s tradition. They’re putting defensive backs like myself into the league, so I really like it there.”

The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back plans to come back for as many Alabama games as he can this fall. He’s also expected to visit Vanderbilt on Aug. 30 for the Commodores season opener against South Carolina.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Georgia got some love from Ohio State on Friday.

With ESPN Watch List quarterback DeShaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville), ESPN 150 inside linebacker and Auburn commit Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) and ESPN Watch List outside linebacker Korie Rogers (Buford, Ga./Buford) already paid a visit, the Buckeyes were at it again.

This time, Ohio State checked in with Georgia commit and ESPN 150 safety Nick Glass (Atlanta/St. Pius X) and his teammate cornerback Nick Ruffin.

Glass is already one of the most sought after juniors with Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, South Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest throwing their hat in the ring as well as the Bulldogs.

As a sophomore, he racked up 75 tackles, 5 sacks and had 4 interceptions. Ruffin currently has offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Last season, Ruffin made 47 tackles and was credited with 14 pass break ups.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Get ready for the next wave of talented prospects to come out of Washington (D.C.) Friendship.

Junior safety Daejuan Funderburk and sophomore offensive lineman Quavez Boulware are already receiving strong college interest, according to Friendship coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim. Several schools have visited Friendship to lay early groundwork for the two up-and-coming prospects, namely Michigan, Ohio State, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Maryland and North Carolina.

"There's been a lot lately," Abdul-Rahim said with a chuckle when asked what college recruiters have recently visited.

Of course, there are more prospects than just Funderburk and Boulware, who are simply the newest Friendship names to surface.

Senior linebacker Yannick Ngakoue is still undecided. The former Maryland commitment has said he's down to Maryland, Miami, South Carolina and West Virginia. Two juniors for Friendship figure to be top prospects for the 2014 class: safety Jalen Tabor and running back Jonathan Haden. They already have multiple scholarship offers.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

With his junior season behind him, Jonathan Haden is ready to visit some prospective colleges.

The running back from Washington (D.C.) Friendship said he will visit Ohio State soon and is considering a visit to North Carolina as well.

"I'm very open-minded," the 5-foot-8, 180-pound prospect said. "I have seen North Carolina and I like them a lot. I just plan on getting to some schools so I can see how they are."

Haden recently picked up a scholarship offer from North Carolina State. He previously held scholarships from Ohio State and North Carolina. Several other schools have shown interest.

Clearly, Ohio State's play this season has helped elevate the Buckeyes in the minds of prospects, namely Haden. When asked about Ohio State's 12-0 season, Haden said, "They had a great season. And I love how they play."

Haden has plenty of ties to several parts of the country thanks to his brother's football career. Joe Haden played college football for Urban Meyer at Florida and is now a cornerback for the Cleveland Browns.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Sam Mustipher has another top-flight school to consider.

The offensive guard from Olney (Md.) Good Counsel picked up a scholarship from Florida on Tuesday, the junior said. The Watch List prospect now has 11 scholarship offers.

Mustipher has expressed strong interest in Ohio State and Penn State. He also is lining up several visits for later this month and next spring. He said he plans to visit Notre Dame, Clemson, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Urban Meyer spent the last two days visiting high schools in New Jersey, but junior Saeed Blacknall didn’t know Meyer was coming to Manalapan (N.J.) High School. He heard Ohio State was coming, but he didn’t think Meyer would be the one to show up until he found the news out Monday.

The 2014 receiver caught a glimpse of the Buckeyes’ coach walking the halls Tuesday, though, and he was blown away.

“My coach told me Urban Meyer was coming in the next day, and I guess it’s the recruiting time for the head coaches to be on the road and to see players,” Blacknall said. “I was shocked. I was real happy to go and see him in person.

“I didn’t think the guy really knew my name, but [Blacknall’s coach] said ‘Urban Meyer knows who you are.’ ”

NCAA rules prohibit Meyer from speaking to Blacknall, so the 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver just gave a quick hello before leaving.

Meyer spent Monday visiting programs in North Jersey, seeing prospects such as elite junior Jabrill Peppers. Earlier Tuesday he was at Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic to check out 2014 lineman Quenton Nelson. Both have Buckeyes offers.

Blacknall believes the Buckeyes must be interested if Meyer stopped by his high school, as well.

“I didn’t have a chance to have a full conversation,” said Blacknall, referring to his high school coach, “but I’m thinking the obvious point is [Meyer] is interested in me or he wouldn’t come to my school.

“But him coming is enough.”

Boston College, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh and Rutgers have offered Blacknall already, and the Buckeyes are high on him. If Ohio State offers, Blacknall has no doubts who his leader would be.

“They would definitely be No. 1,” he said. “You can’t rule them out, because it’s Ohio State, the Big Ten. I’d still have so much respect for the other colleges and a lot of love, but you get a school like this coming that you see on ESPN all the time and you dream about, and it’s pretty unreal, that’d jump them to No. 1.”

Georgia Tech, Miami (Fla.) and North Carolina are also showing significant interest in Blacknall, and he plans to visit a few schools in the coming months.

“I’m planning to go to UNC, because I have family down there. I thought it’d be good to go visit them,” he said. “Then after today meeting Coach Urban Meyer, I definitely want to go down and see the Buckeyes and how they are.

“No question about that.”

Blacknall wrapped up his junior season Saturday as Manalapan lost in the state finals. Blacknall caught five passes for 86 yards in the loss and finished the season with 16 touchdowns and more than 600 receiving yards.

He just finished up his junior highlight tape, and Blacknall said what separates him as a receiver is his ability to produce yards after the catch and turn a short gain into a big play.

“I make something out of nothing. I can turn a five-yard hitch into a 20-yard gain or a touchdown,” he said. “That’s what I’ve been doing all year. I have a couple long plays, but usually it’d be a screen or bubble pass that I take to the house.”

I could be wrong, but it sounds like he's Ohio State's to lose.

Could go either way, though.

According to the recruiting board, we are considered among his favorites. I know he's a local kid and we want to rap up North Carolina for recruits but I sure would love to get some of those #1 through #10 guys in their position even if it means recruiting out of state.

If they don't committed anywhere else and we have an excellent showing against SC, I mean, we have to be a serious destination for many top notch recruits. I just hope Mr. Fedora doesn't have any plans of leaving anytime in the next 10 to 15yrs.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Shortly after notching the class 5A state championship, some players at Tallahassee Godby started thinking about how they could be even better in 2013. And with a strong group of underclassmen returning, it's easy to see why.

One of the more promising class of 2014 prospects would have to be defensive back Deion Singleton. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound junior already has offers from Louisville, Miami, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and several others.

In Friday's 21-20 victory over Immokalee, Singleton finished with four tackles and forced a fumble.

"This is just a great feeling," Singleton said. "To win a state championship, do it for the seniors and for the whole community, really. It's hard to describe."

Singleton says he has a busy offseason planned and will continue to increase his communication with several programs.

"Nobody stands out right now; I'm just talking to several schools," Singleton said. "Florida State, USF, Tennessee -- I'm talking to a lot of schools and trying to build relationships with the coaches.

"I'm going to figure out the schools that I want to see over the summer pretty soon."

There is a thread on Premium saying 2014 QB Will Grier will be announcing his Committment on Wednesday, I don't have Premium so I don't know how accurate it is, or where we stand. My belief is that it would come down to North Carolina and Florida!!!! Needless to say, but I will, getting Grier would be HUGE for our 2014 Recruiting Class, especially this early!!!!!!

We have some ground to make up if we are going to get him. Listening to the video on him he list his top 5 and we aren't mentioned. He has Ohio St, Gamecocks, Maryland, Alabama and not sure who the last one was. My solution to that is just win baby. Winning will take care of many questions.

If this happens he is choosing Florida. He has stated that Florida is his favorite. If you look at their depth at QB they really need a stud QB. We have on paper a lot of talent at QB ahead of him. Hate to say it, but I would be stunned if he selected UNC.

Quin Blanding is going to announce earlier than later per report, which is good for us perhaps considering he was a slight UVA lean and UVA just got rid of their defensive coaching staff. We've been recruiting him hard.

The article I read on Blanding gave me some hope that he may pick us. He seems like he may be going against the grain with his choice which may eliminate Virginia since everyone has had him going there.

I'd give us less than a zero percent chance to get Grier considering he just named Florida his leader.

Blanding on the other hand, I think we have a legit shot at getting a commit from him. We need DB help and he would without a doubt be our feature back, and we are in a better position to win the Coastal than Virginia right now.

If we get Grier I would also be shocked. His last visit was to Florida and he didn't make the visit he had set up for UNC. We also just handed out another scholarship offer to a QB in the 2014 class. To me all signs point to Florida but the good news is we look to have good depth at QB.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Linebacker Kain Daub (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood) is no longer a commitment for LSU's 2014 class, his mother confirmed Tuesday.

"We were kind of talking about, did he commit too early?" said Jeannie Daub. "It's not that he doesn't want to go to LSU. I think it's more that he wants to go to some camps, and he wants to go on some visits. There's some other schools that he wants to visit that he'd probably never get a chance to go visit otherwise."

Daub's reversal is the latest blurb in a long line of recruiting news for the Tigers this week -- though this is the first instance of bad news for LSU. The ESPN Watch List member projects to be one of the top players in the state of Florida next season, and he'll likely be one of the best defenders in the nation.

The decommitment doesn't come as a huge surprise with Daub, as he recently allowed earlier this season that he'd reopen his recruitment to other schools after having shut it down. The Tigers were hoping to reaffirm their status with Daub during last weekend's massive home game against Alabama, but he was unable to make the nine-hour trip.

"We tried to come up for the game this weekend, and it was difficult," said Jeannie Daub. "I'm not saying he's not going to come back there. He liked the school, loved the campus and liked the coaches. He hadn't felt that way about any other school he'd been to."

Daub will have no shortage of suitors now that he has reopened his recruitment. He holds a total of 11 offers as a junior, from national powers such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Miami. He also received an offer from Southern Cal during the weekend. His high school teammate, 2013 defensive end DeMarcus Walker, is an Alabama commit and has been selling the Tide to his younger teammate. But Daub's mother cautioned fans not to believe rumors about her son's activity.

"I know he wanted to go check out Alabama's campus. But everybody thinks he decommitted to go to Alabama, and that's not the truth -- it's far from the truth," she said.

Don't count the Tigers out yet, either -- not with so much time until Daub's national signing day in February 2014. LSU is still the linebacker's first choice, but there is now more work to do to restore his favor.

Alabama, Oregon and Tennessee were a few others mentioned, along with LSU, on the standout's interest list.

May be a long shot for this guy.....

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

2014 visitors to the Iron Bowl

Outside of Liner, Robinson and the current Alabama commitments, the bulk of this weekend’s visitors comes from the 2014 class, but there’s no shortage of talent. From outside the state, ESPN Watch List linebackers Kain Daub and Raekwon McMillan are both expected to make the trip to Tuscaloosa. Daub will come up with his teammate and current Tide commitment DeMarcus Walker, and McMillan plans to ride over with Wayne County High School juniors Krenwick Sanders and Jeremy Patterson. Also, TideNation confirmed that ESPN Watch List offensive lineman Andy Bauer will make the trip from Missouri to Alabama for Saturday’s Iron Bowl. Bauer recently decommitted from Missouri. As expected, the top in-state juniors will also visit this weekend, including Rashaan Evans, Marlon Humphrey, Bo Scarbrough, Racean Thomas and Tre Williams.

We are recruiting Rashaan and Marlon who visited Alabama. They may be long shots. They have us down as considering us.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Kentavius Street is starting to generate a lot of buzz on the recruiting trail. The Rose High (Greenville, N.C.) defensive end already has multiple scholarship offers and several other schools are showing interest.

The 2014 class in the state of North Carolina is shaping up to be a good one. One prospect that has flown somewhat under-the-radar is Kentavius Street. However, Street’s recruitment is beginning to heat up.
“Recruiting – I’ve been getting a bunch of letters from Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Duke UNC, ECU, and N.C. State,” said the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Street. “I’ve also heard from Georgia and Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville – it’s been great.”

“I have offers from Virginia Tech, Duke, ECU, Old Dominion, and N.C. State,” he said. “Duke and Louisville are recruiting me the hardest."

He has talked to one school frequently.

“I’ve talked to the coaches at Duke a lot – Coach (David) Cutcliffe, the defensive line coach (Rick Petri), and the linebackers coach (Jim Collins),” Street said.

He has already visited Duke and with the season over, Street will likely take another visit in the near future.

“I’m really trying to get up to Virginia Tech,” he said. “I’ve heard about the team’s entrance and how it is on game day. I really want to experience that.”

The defensive lineman knows what he is looking for in a school.

“I really want to be an engineer, so I’m hoping that the school has a great mechanical engineering program,” he said. “As far as a football program, I want to play for a team that is going to stick together and plays hard every game.”

Despite the interest from schools, recruiting is not Street’s main concern at this time.

“I’m not really focused on recruiting yet,” said Street. “I really want to focus on that during my senior year. I think I’m going to make my decision right at the end of my senior season.”

Street runs bench presses 345 pounds, squats 625, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds.

Update: Since this interview, Street has picked up offers from Maryland and Tennessee.

We need to go ahead and get in there with an offer.

RE: 2014 Recruiting Updates

Love to have him because he wants to be part of UNC but who are we already after at his position? If we couldn't offer a scholarship, would he be willing to be a preferred walk-on? How does he stack up with Kentavius Street from The Rose in Greenville?

I know height isn't everything, but 6'0/250 seems short to me for a BCS-caliber lineman. For all I know, this kid could be the next Jeff Saturday, but those guys are few and far between.
