RE: 2014 Recruiting Updates
Can we have former players that are in the NFL or on their way to the NFL speak to these kids? I mean like Juluis Peppers speaking with Hand. Cooper speaking with #1OG. Dre Bly speaking with the CB's. Sensabaugh speaking with #1Safety.
Is that a recruiting violation? Does the coaches have that kind of repore with those former players? Is there someone on staff that can bridge that gap if not?

RE: 2014 Recruiting Updates
Correct. He dropped us out of his top 5 after Deke left, so he's just coming to watch the greatest rivalry in college basketball.
That said, at least we have that to get him on campus so that gives Gilmore a shot at him and maybe we can make up some ground.

For those who may not click on the link but would rather read it.
After receiving countless scholarship offers from across the country, Quin Blanding made his college decision on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Bayside star committed to Virginia on Wednesday afternoon at has high school.
Blanding choose the Cavaliers over other finalists Florida State, North Carolina, and Ohio State.
He is the second commitment for Virginia in the 2014 class, joining Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian Academy defensive tackle Chris Nelson.
Blanding is the No. 1 safety and the 10th-ranked overall prospect in the country

Not getting Demetrious Nicholson when they had the chance has bitten UNC more times with Virginia recruits than anyone can imagine.

"Not getting Demetrious Nicholson when they had the chance has bitten UNC more times with Virginia recruits than anyone can imagine."
So very true. A position of need and the past staff fiddled and fumbled. An uphill battle now - probably the best opportunity will be by getting an offensive player to open a door to the 757.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates
Disagree that we are wasting our time in VA. You have to recruit those kids regardless of the outcome. If the kid didn't commit to UNC I'm glad he stayed home (UVA especially). You definitely don't see any of that loyalty in NC recruits.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates
I was hoping we would be starting out a little better for the 2014 recruiting class but we still have a lot of time to turn things around. If we could upset South Carolina I think it would go a long way in the eyes of recruits. I'm expecting us to have a monster recruiting year in the 2015 class and I hope we can get a top 20 class in 2014.

Was looking at scouts 2014 top recruits in every category and UNC is not well represented thus far. No showing a lot of offers or interest in/by the top recruits. Oddly enough, I saw MooU mention 2x as much as UNC.

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates
Kentavius Street.....
Less than two months after Jimbo Fisher hired Billy Napier to coach tight ends at Florida State, Napier accepted a position on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama. It was the seventh assistant coach that left the Seminoles since the 2012 season ended, and those changes have cost Florida State the lead for a top prospect in the Southeast. Defensive end Kentavius Street (Greenville, N.C./Rose) is coming off a junior season in which he made 93 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, two blocked punts, two blocked field goals, and one defensive touchdown. Over 15 programs have offered, and a week ago Florida State led Georgia following an offer from the Bulldogs.
But Napier’s departure has shaken up his top two.
“My top two are the same, but after talking to all of the coaches at Georgia, I am going to put them No. 1,” Street said. “I am starting to like them more than Florida State because I have not talked with them as much since then.”
Two coaches Street has talked to frequently are from Georgia.
“I talk to Coach [John] Lilly and Coach [Mark] Richt like every day,” Street said. “They tell me that they like my mentality of working hard every day and that I am the type of student athlete they try to build their program around.”
Street insists that he still likes Florida State a lot, but he will need to get to know the staff in Tallahassee, Fla., more moving forward.
“I have talked to Jay Graham the new recruiting coordinator, so our relationship is coming, but it is not as good as it was with Coach Napier,” Street said. “It does not affect how I feel about the college, but it did hurt that he left like that and did not tell me anything.”
Street is hoping to visit Athens, Ga., soon, and the defensive end’s anticipation coincides with his reasons for the Bulldogs taking the lead in his recruitment.
“I can say that I am really looking forward to visiting Georgia sometime in May,” Street said. “They are my No. 1 because every day I check out their facilities on the internet, their coaches are great, I really think I would enjoy it there and then the chance to play for my home state would be an added bonus. There are great people in Georgia and around Athens, and my friends from there have been blowing my phone up ever since Georgia offered.”
As for how Georgia hopes to utilize the 6-foot-4, 256-pound prospect in college, Street says they might use him in a variety of ways.
“Georgia likes me as a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end and also a little tight end on offense,” Street said. “I like the thought of playing tight end if a school needs me there, but at the end of the day I know I am more effective on the edge on defense. That is my bread and butter.”

RE: 2014 Recruiting Updates
SMH didn't realize the Heels out of Hood's top 3, glad this visit put us back in the thick of things but that still doesn't give me much hope to ultimately get him. Who the hell were the schools anyway? I thought it was ND and then us.
Just paid a visit to the board for a first time in a while and overall it looks pretty promising. Kizer with 2 helmets, that o-linemen from Florida who we now lead for is a top 15 player at his position, Hand showing up early shows he truly does still have interest and wasn't just looking for a free ticket. The only thing disappointing is the fact Andrew Brown didn't show up, he's the Virginia and overall class heavyweight I think the Heels have the best shot at landing and yesterday may have gone a long way to fully cement us as leaders, would have liked to see Featherston show up as well.
Is Fedora planning on having anymore junior days and if so anybody know when?

Re: 2014 Recruiting Updates
Some good news with recruiting against these suppose to be giant schools to attend even though UNC is a giant school to attend academically and athletically. insider.espn.go.com/blog/insider/rumors/Florida and Ohio State are considered the favorites to land ESPN Watch List tight end Jalyn Holmes (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor), but an ACC school has moved into immediate contention for the top spot after a weekend visit by Holmes. Holmes spent the weekend in Chapel Hill. North Carolina did it's best to impress the talented tight end. "I really don't want to say I have a favorite or anything like that but the visit helped them (North Carolina) a lot," Holmes told Justin Rowland of TarHeelIllustrated.com. "It helped them a whole lot. I really did love it up there." "It was a good visit, a great campus. I really, really enjoyed myself. It was probably the best [visit] so far." Alabama, Clemson, Maryland, USC and Virginia Tech are among the other teams Holmes is also considering.

insider.espn.go.com/blog/colle...n/post?id=10882Summary: Elijah Hood had ND, Michigan, and Ohio State in his top group. He now says he has spoken with his family and believes he wants to stay closer to home. I believe he said after a visit to UNC that it was a great visit. From what I had read, he seemed likely to go to ND. His desire to play close to home appears to bode well for the Heels.
