And with Wiggins' decommitment and Haynes faxing in his NLI, that concludes the 2013 recruiting class.

Solid class overall, one that has some very dynamic players and some solid contributors at areas of need.

The commitments on offense definitely stand out a little more, but defensively this group has talent; Webb and Walker look to be very good players, along with Nazair Jones who probably redshirts in 2013 but has a great future.

With the scholarship reductions, there is no question that this class is shallow. 17 commitments is a paltry class in terms of numbers. However, the quality that each of these recruits brings to UNC will go a long way towards helping Carolina compete for championships, beginning this year.

Congratulations to the coaching staff on an excellent recruiting class.

you mentioned webb and walker....but i like drennon and haynes as well...i think they will be big contributors in the fall....and with the announcement that m. williams isnt enrolled and the fact that trubisky enrolled early...look for him to make some noise this spring....i also believe howard can have a quinshad davis type contribution....this is a damn good class considereing the restrictions....just wait till fedora can play with 25 again!....things are looking up folks.....we are on the right track!

So, since we only signed 17 guys, we have one free scholly and two if our QB doesn't decided to return?

Hard to believe we don't sign our allotted schollies but we can use them next year?

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Junior college defensive tackle Jarran Reed (Goldsboro, N.C./East Mississippi CC) has signed his letter of intent to play football at the University of Florida.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman chose Florida over Alabama.

Reed, who previously had been committed to Ole Miss before officially decommitting last Thursday, joins two other defensive tackles in Florida's class: commit Caleb Brantley and early enrollee Darious Cummings.

Reed, Cummings and Florida defensive tackle Damien Jacobs all attended EMCC.

Oh, man... I just noticed that we let the 5th rated kicker in the country--a kid from Indian Trail, NC--slip out of state and end up at Oregon... Hope Moore and/or Snyder are up to the task next year...

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

If you bring in less than the number of recruits you are allowed to sign, then you can back count the difference towards the EEs for the next class as long as the total brought in for that class doesn't exceed the total maximum schollies allowed on the team.

His only interests were UNC and Oregon. We didn't offer. Hope the walk-ons are good.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Wogans #1 choice was Oregon so it probably would not have mattered if he was offered by the Heels. He will be a difference maker for the Ducks.

UNC gets a quality pair of 2013 kickers with Landfried and O'Brient. It will be interesting to see how they compete. I have seen Will many times and have been fortunate to observe his development up close and firsthand with Dan Orner. He is very strong off the ground on FG, KO range to 70 yds. Here is a pic of him hitting what I believe was the 61 or 62 yd Bombsquad camp winner with Orner Dec 2012 in Charlotte:

Watched Spencer's video's, he is definitely another quality kicker. He has yet to transition off the block to the ground from what I have seen. It's like hitting a golf ball with or without a tee. Maybe he already has, the videos were early season. Regardless, the Heels future at K looks very promising.

Congratulations and good luck to both these young men.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Since we ended up 20th by ESPN, 30th by Scout and 40th by TOS we can easily lay claim to a Top 30 Class overall which isn't bad considering the restrictions we had and the negative press over the last 2+ years!!!! Here's to a Top 25 Class in '14 and at least 2 ACC Championships by this class ('13)!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Except when you are being punished by the NCAA. We cannot sign more than 20 guys in 2012, 2013 or 2014 regardless of how many we sign each year.

Re: 2013 Recruiting Updates

Early Entry prep or HS kids don't not sign LOI's. Jucos, however, do, even if they enroll midyear. By NCAA bylaws, the LOI's counted for any signing year are counted starting on NSD till a later date, usually around early May, or late April(forgive me for forgetting the exact date.) The EE's are counted back to the previous year provided that it doesn't exceed the total max that can be on the team for that year. The key number for UNC would be 80 because of penalties. That is the total allowed on the team. So for UNC, they can bring in 20 who sign LOIs for the probation years plus the EEs backcounting to the previous year as long as the total doesn't exceed 80 on the team. The maximum amount of EEs who count towards the team total is the difference between what UNC could have brought in the year before, but didn't. However, if they brought the maximum in, they can't back count. I know this can be confusing
