Just a guess here but....I bet we have a few offers out to guys who are waiting for the 5* guys to announce on Wednesday. After that gets settled, then they figure out if they still have a commitable offer from the school they want to attend. If not, UNC is in the mix as a backup plan and we end up with 1 or 2 guys we never expected.
I know this isn't the exact scenario with guys like Gio and Quinshad Davis, but I thought I remember a similar story with both. UNC wasn't really their ideal destination originally, but they kinda fell into our lap. At least I thought that's how it played out, but my memory is sketchy sometimes.

On the prospect list we show offers to :
Devon Seymore
Joe Sanders
Jaylen Miller
DeAngelo Reynolds
Jerrell Reynolds
We still show offers to Austin Golson and Jarren Reed,
but both indicate no interest in UNC.James Summers also continues to show an offer--but I don't think he qualified.

I thought I read that we are allowed no more than 20, regardless of how many commits we take from year-to-year.

Well, that really blows. Especially with the rumors that Marquise Williams is gone. Are we out of luck there too? How about Gio's scholarship that opened up? This is really starting to hurt.

Here is the X factor for signing day - Carolina can "enroll" only 19 new scholarship players next August. They may actually sign more now, but before fall practice the number must be 19.

If he never returns yeah, he'll be one less from the total 80 we are allowed to have on the roster - so a walk-on could get his scholly.

Well Wiggins wants to make his exciting, as I said it will be UNC or Clemson so that implies that it is up in the air. With that said I wouldn't be too worried, think we got him. Besides, if it wasn't for him there would be absolutely nothing to make guesses about today. Amazing that our signing day will be wrapped up before 10 in the morning, can't ever remember that happening.

They shouldn't be. 2 most recent pictures are UNC affiliated. All I know is if he commits to Clemson even they'll be surprised. haven't seen any tiger fans mention him.

Interesting for the 2013 class. Assuming UNC does not have another commitment today (judging from recent trends looks likely), and does not have a decommitment today (still waiting on Haynes and Wiggins at the time of this post)…
…that would mean UNC could have 21 scholarships available for the 2014 class.
Interesting to keep that in mind today.

A couple weeks ago I thought he was gone for good to Clemson, I thought we halted their momentum on his last official visit here but I know he was enamored with his visit there. He met Brian Dawkins and hung out with all the players. Just seems that during the days leading up to NSD clemson fans have been saying they haven't heard anything about him.

I said on a Wiggins highlight thread in December and earlier on this thread that Wiggins wants to go to the school in S.Carolina. He raved about his visit there during the season. This was the word I got back in November from a friend close to the Hillside program.
Only minutes will tell if that friend was correct or not. Stay tuned.

And with Wiggins' decommitment and Haynes faxing in his NLI, that concludes the 2013 recruiting class.
Solid class overall, one that has some very dynamic players and some solid contributors at areas of need.
The commitments on offense definitely stand out a little more, but defensively this group has talent; Webb and Walker look to be very good players, along with Nazair Jones who probably redshirts in 2013 but has a great future.
With the scholarship reductions, there is no question that this class is shallow. 17 commitments is a paltry class in terms of numbers. However, the quality that each of these recruits brings to UNC will go a long way towards helping Carolina compete for championships, beginning this year.
Congratulations to the coaching staff on an excellent recruiting class.
